Dell must be getting close to lauching because they're putting documentation on their support site:
http://support.dell.com/support/top...BC0325A7F2D6A7E040AE0AB7E11837&doclang=en&cs=
http://support.dell.com/support/top...BCD4281C153971E040AE0AB7E10507&doclang=en&cs=
And most importantly:
http://support.dell.com/support/top...60589F51057D6BE040AE0AB7E139FD&doclang=en&cs=
Also, it looks like it's renaming the models of the Inspiron lineup. For instance, the 15.4" model is now the Inspiron 15, the 14.1" is the 14, etc... -
I think a nice release is *not soon before long* WoOT!...
To be on the site like that esp. Support...It will follow soon!
Glad, I have been waiting, still

What's got you so excited over the mini inspiron? I'm highly interested in these so called 'netbooks' and think I will be purchasing one of these when they come out, but I'm interested in why you think this one beats the others - eee, wind, aspire one, hp 2133, etc.
Is it speed? storage? battery life?
Just interested! -

I highly doubt that the Mini Inspiron will get more than 4 hours on a 4 cell...
Also though in the Wind vs. Aspire One I would have to simply say that the Wind wins on:
Battery life, heat, noise, screen size and quality (matte LED not glossy), 6 cell versions already available, & touchpad
Aspire One merely wins on:
Price, HD sizes from manufacturer
Just my $0.02... -
-
Can't wait for the release...I want to see the final specs and final pictures already haha. Hopefully the price stays low, maybe even at $299. =D
-
Well let's see my excitement: Would be that it's sleek, sexy, small (that portability), and 2nd companion to my *red* 1530...
I will be getting it in the *red*= precious!
The 1530 is my first lappy ever, and I am very pleased with Dell ~ so I shall stick with Dell. I like the look of it vs. the others. I like that I can throw it in a handbag, tote, or even a *smaller sized* backpack making it great for when I am biking (which I do alot). Also the USB ports, the Wireless option, mini-card for b-tooth, OS choices, the HD amount I would need, and the batt.
The Lenovo is nice looking, as is the Wind..But I simply prefer the Mini I!
It would just work for me! I already get lot's of nice compliments on my 1530...and this baby', I'm sure I will get a ton more with!
Well, look at it in the *red*...YEAH. Sooo OwnedYes, very very excited.

Cooling
Noise Levels
Screen Size
Battery Life
Matte LED (for outdoor use)
Then I guess that decision is up to you. -
An Aspire one with XP and a 6 cell battery is $400 and the Wind is $500 with the 3 cell battery. In reality I think these machines, while both being netbooks, aim for different crowds. The Wind, along with the Lenovo and 1000H are more of mini-laptops whereas the AAO, 901, and 910 seem to be more of a "true" netbook. They physically are smaller than the bigger machines, and also weigh about a pound less. For me, My 701 was great other than the small screen, but my 1000H was just too big so I sold it and I'm now holding out (again) for the 910 or the AAO.
-
hmmm do u rekon these netbooks are good for school? I want to take them in just to take notes. I had a go at the original eee pc however i found that typing on them was quite difficult.
-
shoelace_510 8700M GT inside... ^-^;
Also the Aspire one isn't really smaller because it has an 8.9" screen but a 10.1" footprint... -
The 3 cell Wind is 2.3 lbs, the 6 cell one is either 2.9 or a flat 3, I don't recall which, I was trying to compare apples to apples (ie, 6 cell vs. 6 cell). As far as physical size, the AAO is quite a bit smaller than my 1000H.
-
Let me ask you this... Do you think these netbooks will get slot loading drives in the future? I think that is the only downside at this time. I guess I will just have to get creative and work with ISO's even more. -
Which do you guys expect to be the better option - the Inspiron 910 or the Latitude E? I figure the Inspiron will cater more to the student crowd with a Linux distro standard and a very basic featureset. Most importantly it will be cheap. The E, I think, will be more of a true ultraportable. Long battery life, good performance, and XP Pro standard. It'll probably be more expensive too.
-
I just looked up the proposed specs, and why could they not use a real HDD? Asus, Acer, MSI, and Lenovo are all managing it, but Dell has to stifle us with a 16GB SSD.
-
-
I don't have to state my excitement..as you guy's already know that! WoOT!
The slot loading drives...hmmmm., I think in the future perhaps..and after the first *roll out*....I'm sure they will take a look at sales, problems with potential/returns & why, and Consumer feedback...)
Yes maybe a little bit of creativity, no??
$90 not bad!
Cin -

Also really the AAO is a 10" footprint so not really much smaller -
-
You never know, the way Dell has been lately...it could just be added in..who know's....
(just my opinion)

It's the final spec's and pricing that matters, now
Cin -
everytime i remember the 910, Cin's face pops into my head :S lol

Hey, maybe it will be avail. by the 2nd week of September..*fingers crossed*Though next week would work even better
Cin -

Someone's gotta keep you all *enthralled*, *happy/enthuised* and wanting to wait for it's release! LMAO!
It Wont' be Soon before long...
Cin -
It's coming out sometime between now and forever.
-
-
Yeah that's it!!!!!
I'm down with that! How bout' you? lulz.
Cin! -
I don't like the look of the keyboard in the endgadget article - doesn't look well made, hopefully it's a pre production one. Lots of space above where function keys could go! The touchpad and buttons look larger than the competition which is a major plus point. And the ctrl and fn keys are the right way round.
On the AspireOne and Wind: I had a little play with each. I didn't notice any Acer fan noise and most reviews don't mention it. I reckon which you prefer comes down to whether you want a true netbook or a very small lappy. The acer is smaller and looks tiny beside the seeminly bloated Wind (actually the identical Advent). It also looks more expensive in the blue.
If the Mini takes the best features of these two including price they'll have a winner. -
We haven't heard anything as to recent from Dell regarding the Mini I...I hope that when the finalized pricing and specs actually do come out....There has been some *tweaking here and there*....
Ahh it would be nice......
Cin -
Hey for the 8.9inch vs 13 inch Dell inspirons, which do you think will be better for taking in to class.
-
The I-13 is a bit larger..And, the Mini I is meant as a portable, etc..companion netbook...I think it's what your comfort level is
But, the I-13....look's to be quite nice, though....Can you call your local Best Buy..see if they have it in stock and go check it??
Dell, really needs to take action now, and release the Mini I fairly soon....
Cin -

Oh, and bloated does seem like quite a strong word seeing as they are so close in size... -

woops double post sorry >.<
-
How is your Wind working out????I'm assuming good! Do you think once the Mini I is actually released....you may check it out???
Cin -
Out of the classroom, I will be using the mini in my business as a portable diagnostic resource.
Then, of course it will be used as a grab and go internet machine.
So, for my needs, the smaller screen is all I need, as I already have the 15.4 for my heavier computing tasks. If you are looking to purchase your first notebook, I would lean towards the 13 inch screen. But... this is all just my two cents. -
^^^^^ Nice! I was going to ask you what you would be using it for...but you just answered!
Cin -
The MSI Wind with the weight of the AC adapter is 3.4-pounds. The Asus 1000H is 3.6-pounds -
eeepcnews.de has yet another rumor from a "dell insider" that it will be out on september 9th. haha I'm getting a little tired of all these rumors . also, nvidia has said they will optimize their geforce graphics chip drivers for the nano cpu. the netbook landscape will be pretty interesting by this time next year
-
Continuing to wait and wait and wait.....
Cin -
-
I hope I am right, and I get rewarded wisely!
Cin -
you know what i can see coming.... a calender pool... people buy dates on a calendar for when it comes out... winner gets the pool...
as for me i believe the acer is doing just fine... i installed ubuntu on it after partitioning because i had 120 gigs for just xp... ubuntu runs nice and fast although i believe some intel atom support is still in the works... ubuntu remix is allright but it kind of seemed unnecessary for me... i did use some of the applets but got rid of the launcher... i will be taking my laptop to school with me which will finally give me time to write that review i promised you all so long ago... -
A Mini I Pool, Winner takes it all!
I'm glad the Acer is working out for you! And, can't wait to see the review!
Take care!
