Just got into the boxing stage my Estimated ship date was 9/2, so I guess I'm ahead of schedule? How long should i expect until i receive the laptop a week and a half?

In my humble opinion Dell, a market leader, should be better equipped to cope with seasonal supply and demand variations. Personally, I dont believe the back-to-school rush should be an acceptable excuse for a company of Dells size and market share.
From what Ive read, Dell has been working with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Sloan School of Management to leverage advance mathematics and probability theory to improve their processes. From the article
"Before our model, the company would use forecasts, but the reality is that forecasts are never right," said Jérémie Gallien, professor of operations management at MIT. "By using probability theory to quantify the uncertainty of demand forecasts and projected inventory, we have been able to vastly improve and speed up the decision-making process."
"Dell has achieved significant efficiency and organizational gains by relieving supply routing decisions from several uncoordinated groups within Dell and assigning this task to a supply chain analyst who makes routing decisions assisted by the optimization-based model, said Eston Ricketson, director of global materials worldwide procurement for Dell, in a statement. "Dell is working on implementing an extension of this model that generates shipment decisions between a worldwide global hub in Asia and all its manufacturing/merge facilities worldwide.
In case anyone is looking for something to read while waiting for their Dell, Ive included the following two links. Note although the articles are computer monitor-centric, Im would imagine that many of these techniques have been extended to other lines of their inventory, assembly, and shipping logistics.

I too ordered on the 26th, and delayed the same as you(same dates, 3 delays), and for some reason our newest ESD was in 2 weeks. I called and they told me it was too late and didn't even call to find out it was in the boxing stage which is almost the best news we can hear(besides shipping/arrived).
Why they give us a 2 week delay when it is in boxing is completely stupid on Dell's part. -
Just got the EDD for my Studio 15 (in the UK), and its the 15th September, almost a month after I ordered it!
It's annoying because I need it for university, starting on the 21st, so I really can't afford any delays on that date.
I also ordered an Inspiron 1525 for a family member and that's got an EDD of 1st September so there must be some Studio components being delayed in the UK. -

I cancelled my Dell order yesterday, Then i ordered a Mac book 2.4GHZ at 1pm, and today at 12pm it arrived. Less than 24hours thats what i call service.
Good look with your Dell Orders. -
Because its Dell and something will probably happen on the plane ride over and our computers will be the only ones to be broken so then they can delay it yet again. All I know is the laptop better kick some A** for all this wait. Oh yeah I forgot to mention this in previous post but my sister ordered 2 Studio 15s 2 weeks later than I did and hers shipped today thats what I think is messed up. -
I can't believe it. I called dell's automated service because I was bored. I was waiting to hear the same old it's in the build stage blah blah speech, but to my surprise it said it was in the BOXING stage.
I just re-ordered it on August 17th. The first time I ordered it at the end of July it was almost three weeks before I canceled it and it was still in the build stage then. I can't believe it. That was really fast! -
Strawberry i was the same way. I was getting upset and expecting to hear, "...in the BUILD stage" but when they said boxing, my face lit up lol.
Lotta, Strawberry, happymud hope you guys get your laptops soon. Keep us posted. -
Dell denied my application for a prefered account and canceled my order without any notice. I've found a deal on a 17 that I like better so I reordered that. Unfortunitly I havn't found another laptop that fits my needs as well as the Studios or I would give someone else my buisness.
-
I am expecting it to start shipping hopefully tommorow, possibly Friday or the worst case scenario Monday. So far it's been in boxing for 2 days, and I'm very happy I have 2 day shipping(got it free). I'd really like to receive it by the latest Wednesday.
I will be taking pics GALORE when I get it with a good camera, so look forward to that.
-
I'm a bit worried about the EDD Dell have given me - 15th September and I ordered on 16th August. It's just before I start university, and if there's any delay on that then I'm screwed.
Have any UK users had any experience of receiving their laptop before Dell's EDD date? (it would be reassuring to know if the EDDs were conservative estimates) -
and will be delivered on monday.
so check if yours too...
too bad I'll see mine only on spetember 9th when I finally get to the US. -
-
-
No offence, but that wasn't the brightest idea in the world to order it that late if you had intentions of getting it before you started school. Everyone orders their laptops in August for school so its highly likely that you may get delayed. -
I ordered August 8th, and when I called Dell, they said mine should be shipping tomorrow...so fingers crossed...though I'm anticipating there will be delays and I'm ready to start school without a laptop
-
I was told deliveries would be within two weeks though, and I perhaps naively assumed a hugh company like Dell would be able to account for the back-to-school rush. -
Mine shipped yesterday!! With free 2-day shipping, it should arrive tomorrow!
-
Call 1-800-433-9014
If you are in the build stage, that's bad news and chances are you will be delayed, boxing or shipped stage is excellent news. Dell will tell you your order will ship tommorow according to your ESD, not according to what stage it is in. -
I dunno, I'm in Canada so we don't have the automated order status. The online status has been the same since the day after I ordered. The person on the phone told me yesterday they don't really have phases but that mine is in "final assembly". My ESD online is 9/11/08.
-
limi44: call to this number in the US 1-800-433-9014 (it works from outside the country taking the first 1 out). enter your order number when asked to, and you'll know tha stage of production.
-
Yeah, I've tried that, it doesn't work, they just say they can't find my order number.
-
uhh that's bad... I don't know who's the guy you spke to, but the production has it's stages. you can look in the wiki thread.
I hope you won't get a delay. -
My laptop finally shipped after 3 delays!!! I'm so happy right now
.
Expect a whole lot of good pictures on Monday or Tuesday. -
-
Hey guys,
I have been watching this forum since my first delay (ordered July 25th, 3 total delays) and I had a few things to bounce off you guys. Dell was trying to tell me that I was not going to receive my order(i.e ship, not receive) until the 9th of September. No freaking way was that going down, since, when I ordered Dell had no indication of shipping delays on the website. Anyway, lets just say I sent some e-mails, and now my laptop is in the Boxing stage (according to the Dell Order status phone number), yet the website says in production. I am just trying to find out when my laptop is going to be here...
Thanks,
Matt -
The third time my laptop was delayed, I was given another TWO AND A HALF weeks of wait time. It ended up going into the boxing stage the same day it was delayed for 2.5 weeks.
Don't worry, be happy!!! It is in the boxing stage. -
So...Does Boxing mean awesome? Haha, as in, does it mean I am going to get my laptop soon?
-
The website will say "In Production" until it actually ships. There is a Dell Order Stages Wiki thread here that explains the sub-categories for the in production stage. The only way to get additional information is to call their automated number or speak to customer service. I would recommend going by whatever the automated number tells you because Dell representatives can be absolutely clueless sometimes. I called them today to confirm that I was in the boxing stage and the guy told me it was being built. Then when I asked him to clarify he directed me to the automated service and said go by whatever it says there.
-
So, Realistically, it will prolly be sometime next week(at my door) according to the Wiki?
-
It probably will ship soon since you're in the boxing stage and that's the second to the last step, but it's really hard to say for sure because Dell can be so random when it comes to how long it takes for them to fulfill an order. The wiki says up to four days, but a few have spent a longer time in that stage.
I think the odds are good that you'll get it soon since others seem to be going from boxing to shipping rather quickly right now. -
I'm pretty sure automated is only in the US. I tried without the 1 and I got an automated message saying I require the 1 for long distance calls. The guy was from the Dell Call Centre (almost definitely in India). I just called again and the person on the other end gave me the same info that's already on the online order status checker. Oh well. -
Most excellent. I am just praying I get it soon, I figured a whole month before school would be enough...One other question...Has anyone else here called dell and talked to a higher up named "Carol" and have her tell you the reason most of these laptops are delayed, is because the batteries...AND the reason those batteries are delayed is because a battery manufacturing plant burned down? I found this funny..

This is probably a really dumb question but it doesn't hurt to ask - DHL doesn't ship at all on Saturdays, correct?
I have 2 business day DHL shipping. -

Finally! After almost a month after I placed the order, it shipped this morning.
-
Aaaaahhhh you suck... just kidding. congrats on the shipping mine still says its in the boxing stage and that makes me sad... I guess I shouldn't have yelled at the customer service guy the last time. well anyway, lotta your going to have to tell how sweet your laptop is since we have the same thing. congrats again and to everybody else that is in the shipping stage -
Alright, well my laptop almost definitely did not ship today. I wish Dell would update the Online Status checker once in a while.
-
Maybe I was just lucky...to receive emails not receive delays. -
Yeah the order status page still hasn't been updated for me. It still says that it's shipping on the 6th of August. I had to go online to chat with the reps (no phone order status here in Canada) 3 times to get a straight answer, and now I check daily with them. Today the rep said it would ship today or Monday, and gave me a tracking number. It still hasn't shipped, so I'm assuming Monday. Hopefully it gets here soon...I'm getting impatient and I need it for school.
-
Yes! My laptop did ship yesterday, I got an e-mail this morning from Dell confirming it
So excited!
-
It's great hearing that everyone seems to be getting theirs shipped right now. Gives me hope that maybe next week, mine will come out of the boxing stage.
-
Mine is already in NYC. it will be delivered on monday.
but I still have to wait 2 weeks until I actually have it in my hands. -
I also got the official email this morning that my Studio shipped. Delivery is estimated on Tuesday. It's in transit USA right now.
-
My laptop has been in 'pre-production' for about a week now - frustrating! I can't get any more info because I'm in the UK and can't get the automated status line either.
-
markdr, did you check the parts delay thread? Normally a laptop stays in pre-production because Dell doesn't have the parts in their inventory. Try e-mailing Dell. Hopefully their online staff is more competent than their phone staff and can get you some more information.
-
Yes mine finally shipped i looked yesterday and it showed shipped I should get mine on the 27th. Çøńgråtš to everyone and also thanks for this thread its helped me vent and see that I wasn't the only one getting delayed every week but hope to see everyone in a new thread talking about how awesome their new Studio is.
I will post back when studio is delivered
