Post when XPS M1330 ordered and when/if shipped

Well the Sony now has LED, the SZ4 did not.

 

My order was an edu order and I was one of the first to receive one so that is just more wrong information going out.

 

I just preordered SZ650 from amazon. Guess the race begin, whoever get to me first win. $2049, with no tax, it is about the same what I payed for M1330, with better specs. T7500 instead of T7300, hybrid HD instead of 7200rpm. The only thing I would miss is hdmi out, . Oh well , I guess I will pop the popcorn and wait.

 

The SZ4 had LED depending on which model you bought.

Actually, as much as we all dislike Dell right now, there are several differences that nullify the SZ.

Build...
Graphics...
Warranty...
Cant Configure as easy...
Battery life (Apparently)...
CompleteCare???

It is an SZ4 and it said LED backlit in the spec

 

Do you think the $2000 is before or after TAX? I think it's after, because "will be applied to the FIRST CHARGE that meets the minimum spending amount ($2,000)". So it's basically based on how much dell charge you, right?

I think that's right. My order was over the amount before tax, but I think it's the same. You might want to email tailormade support just to check. They are very responsive.

 

Now the DVD drive on the dell website is backordered and has a lead time of 16 days

The SZ6 is an inferior machine. I'd purchase a 14.1" laptop before the SZ6.

 

pre-pro == build in the Dell land, so not surprising.

I really hope that M1330 will still ship earlier, since I really like it. But I got no choice since I really need this before a long assignment overseas next month. I need a backup.

Agreed, All the SZ6 has going for it is the Sony name and a thinner design (yeah the dell thinnest claim was bull).

No HDMI, less customizable, more expensive, worse warranty, and poorer build quality (this thing is delicate )... yep.. M1330 all the way...

 

I'm with you... the I like the m1330 better but time a constraint will force choice.

The SZ is not that bad... you get better battery life, thinner screen, a better case, proc up to 7700 etc.

Again I like the Dell better but it's a race to my door... er office.

 

Yes I did, but I ordered the LED so they are building another to exchange for this one. The CCFL screen is fantastic but I want what I paid for. At least I get to use the M1330 for as long as it takes them to get the LED screen in stock.

 

Good things come to those who wait. Cliegal can you take pics of both screens and compare them once you get your new screen ?

 

That sucks... The LED is anyway better than the CCFL..

 

It will be interesting to see when you get your replacement and if you get it before the second machine you ordered or the first machine we ordered (LOL)... keep us informed.

 

BTW, why are you changing the config for the replaced one? And how's the 2MP cam?

I want to see the screen in action and some possible video of each . It would be nice to compare the same images on both .

Yeah, i think what they meant is that it is the thinnest 13.3" at its thinnest point (in the very front). If i'm not mistaken i think the m1330 is .87" at its thinnest point, while the sz is .9" at its thinnest point. Something like that.

 

I agree, side by side screen comparisons at thier default levels would be great!

Seems like Direct2Dell has stopped posting comment on m1330 thread...I submitted a comment and it has yet to be posted. Also no new comments since last night. Way to censor your customers Dell!!!

Did anyone ever confirm if the 8400m gs in the m1330 was ddr3 or ddr2? It still says ddr3 on dell.com.

 

I'll be happy to do that. Just be prepared for a very long wait. But we know that already, don't we.

Ok...you havent provided any information whatsoever except to start someone panicky because you are feigning that you have information regarding to glass lead time that you probably dont.

Everyone knows about the shortage...it will prob be a couple of weeks for the remedy...

As for knowing your exact number in line... sorry thats where you lost my confidence.

U can jump in with the ebay guy from 3 weeks back who was guaranteed to have his in 5-6 working days.

But i'm not guaranteed to have it in 5-6 days... I'm told it'll come in 5-6 weeks actually. And I'm not 'feigning' anything. I never TOLD you to believe it, it's just what I've been told from the most senior guy that any of us have spoken to, as far as I know.

 

Sorry but you are in the midst of effecting a panick amongst many already streesed buyers. When you say that you 'know' the month the glass will be available but cant tell, it leaves the impression that all are in for a long wait...

Perhaps you should change the writeup, remove the 'I got a secret part', delete the 'Im number 27' part and forget the 'I heard from so and so who was talking to s and so... oh and...remove the 'you were told' as your story is already changing now and the 'most senior guy' part

and then maybe there is a thread of credibility there.

I'd like to add though, that I was referring to orders placed today, at the end of july, that I don't want to say. The late June/ early July ones are the dates a lot of us have been seeing already as far as I'm aware.

As for the panic, I'm just relaying info we got off the phone. Panic or not I think it needed to be said. I'll edit it a bit now though.

I think the first few m1330s that shipped must have had glass either from left-over display stock, or maybe the glass was all the supply companies had left. As if there's a shortage of glass!

The glass rumor thing was confirmed 100% not true by a corporate rep this morning . We are still looking at a good 14 days before we see these things mass produced. These 3 things will factor in to when your order ships

1) Order date

2) Discounts used

3) Dept you ordered from


I expect to see 1 or 2 1330's in forum members hands by the end of next week.

 

Arep told me last week (see my other posts) that there WAS a glass shortage and the new glass was to arrive on thr 27th (today)
From that, i guess it will take them a week to build the screens from the new glass that has arrived?

Well that makes sense as it was beginning to confuse me because the M1330 isn't the only laptop that uses glass, and as far as I know, other models are shipping OK.

So if it wasn't the glass, why such a long delay, even for those like me who ordered late June?

 

I emailed my CSR again today. The last couple email, they assured me that my shipping date is still 7/27. So Today I asked her what is my tracking number. My email has not been replied for 4 hours. I guess they know use the "ignore problem will go away" method . I sometimes wonder what DELL value their customer at.

 

All that I have been told is that EPP orders etc may be the last to go out and those orders many are stuck in preproduction so that confirms what corporate told me . It really is not smart move by Dell to do this but I think that they want people to cancel there orders.
