what is an epp order? what does EPP stand for?
-
1stly ,Did you order from the UK/Ireland?
If not, then the glass problem doesnt apply to you
If it does apply, then i myself dont understand why glass for the screens is causing a delay (arnt the screens plastic????????????)
-
Some educational discount for the USA people i think
-
Education Personal Purchase Program or Employee Personal Purchase Program
-
I ordered from the US, so I guess glass is not a problem for me then? Anyway, until 8/1 passes, I don't technically have a problem as that is my ESD. My glass question was just a general comment/observation.
-
Both of my orders were EPP with discounts. One shipped and one is in boxing so I'm not sure that's quite right either.
-
I am EPP as well and I am in boxing. Stop repeating stuff that other users make up without any evidence.
-
Has anyones laptop shipped that went into boxing this week?
-
Pieman, I'm afraid I can't get the number for you. My dad got to this guy by being on the phone for a long time and enduring a lot of transfers whilst on the phone. The guy asked if my dad wanted to cancel my order and he said "I'll think about it... can I ring you back?" because I wasn't in the house at the time, and the guy said "I'm not sure how you got my number anyway, but you almost definitely won't get it again, so can we arrange a time for me to call you back?" (if you're interested, he's calling back on monday afternoon and my reply will be "pleeeease don't cancel my order!!" hehe)
So, apologies but we don't have the number ourselves!
-
I wouldn't believe this.
-
There clearly is a glass shortage and it is not just in the UK - the simple fact that all LED backlit models were pulled from China shows that the LEDs are in short supply. Until I see the LED backlit displays re-appear on the China website I am not going to believe that the glass shortage is solved.
I also doubt Dell really want to annoy the EPP or educational buyers and will probably treat them equally with everyone else (except perhaps to validate some of them - especially if they also downgraded the order).
My feeling is that gratedraindrop's information is credible.
Given what a competitive threat this Dell model is to some of the other makers, I think it is entirely credible that other companies with better guanxi with the LCD makers in-part managed to engineer this shortage so that it particular affects Dell. Also, as a result of their just-in-time methods - Dell may have been particularly vulnerable and probably under-estimated the popularity of this model. They are probably relatively light in terms of marketing personnel. -
I am in the build phase, yee-haw!!!! Probably doesn't mean anything though!
-
That last part reminded me - the guy said they'd taken on an extra 80 people to deal with customer calls about the m1330
(not sure if that's UK or worldwide...)
-
You guys are getting worse than 13yr old girls at the lunch table.
"well i heard the epp orders are going out last"
"i heard its the skus that did it or maybe its a glass shortage"
The speculation in this thread really runs the gambit. -
nope im still in boxing for the 2nd day
-
Your right Deeds... removed.
-
I think 'glass' is a term probably used in the industry as shorthand for the entire LCD assembly.
Also I think they do contain glass - you might get the impression it is plastic by how flexible and strong it is - but I think that is because it is a thin layer with liquid behind. (There was a Youtube video I saw recently where some Swedish guy with nothing better to do slowly drilled through a LCD display for the heck of it) -
Tiger & Flamenko are on it.
I also believe most everything we've heard (about part shortages) is true in one form or another.
Also the issues about buetooth, battery, etc all true to a degree.
Remember there are many factories and many countries that Dell is selling to. For example if they run out of palm rests at the factory thats making units for Canda does not mean that that part will effect USA shipments (right away).
That said the LED displays seem to be a universal issue and there are a few manufacturers spec'ing this so demand has increased.
What I call BS on, is that EPP will be delayed because it's EPP. That is complete nonsense and rumour mongers should stop trying to spread ficticious inside info.
As for me I'm hoping that one of my units (Dell or Sony) will arrive by August 24. -
Correct Nalada, ignore everyone else lol. I was the first to post about the glass issue a couple of weeks ago (long before CSR's started using it as an excuse) XPS Technical support were on the phone to the manufacturing plant in Limerick (Ireland) and thats exactly what they were told. Little coincidence that CSR's started telling everyone else about a week later.
A little research and it's clearly not bull.
http://achal.wordpress.com/2007/06/28/dear-dell-customer/ -
It came from the top of the food chain and not a peon rep that most of ya'll are calling .
There is no glass shortage ! -
Not to call BS or anything but HCW, what about all the reports of EPP orders being delivered/in boxing stage? The two bits of information seem to contradict. Are you saying everyone is lying that their EPP orders are being boxed/shipped? And there's glass shortage, it affects all LCD displays, not just 1330s.
-
No probs, just 2 hours on the phone at their 8p per min is not good lol!
-
Sheesh, at this rate, you gonna pay more for phone calls to find out what's going on with your 1330 than for the 1330 itself
-
If you don't believe me then call corporate for yourself and you will hear the exact same thing . Remember that I don't waist my time with peon reps . And I am not hear to make internet friends and will keep on posting the truth no matter how upset it gets you. Have a good day -
So you know someone we don't... wow props to you BIG guy. It's still BS.
-
Direct2Dell just opened the floodgate of complaints, jumped from 55 to 85 messges in matter of seconds.
-
Lol, I seriously doubt that corporates will be willing to share this kind of information with everyone even if it were true, 'cause they'd open themselves up for class-action suits for discrimination and so on
-
I brought it under EPP (employee purchase program), and my m1330 is under in-production.
Order Date: July 16th
Estimated Delivery Date:10/12/07
yeah... can you say "wtf?" -
hkboy82, check your status via the phone to see which stage you are in, exactly.
-
That's crazy. That is the first October date I have heard of so far.
-
No it's just their stupid blog. They have some system for monitoring threads for spam, language, etc etc. Sometimes it take a few minutes to go up, today it took 12 hours.
It reminds me of their laptop building..... pazow! -
I work for Dell so I can see what the status is without calling customer care...
It's under In-Production as well...
I have been checking and checking every couple hours since I order it.
I afraid they will cancel my order too -
Dont worry, I have a chat log form a rep saying its free phone,
My bill says 8p per min, so when the laptop comes, im gonna complain and get it all back!
-
Dell just canceled and reordered the system I ordered on 6/27. New ship date...9/25.
I'm speechless. -
here is a screenshot I just took
-
WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am speechless for you too!!!! OUCH!
-
OOOH we have someone from the dark side,
Any chance of some inside info? Eg, are there part shortages eg?
Where abouts do tou work? UK/USA? -
I say BS you don't know anyone at Dell.
I'm calling you on the EPP statement not glass, drives, palm rests, batteries or anything else.
You are a purveyor of rumour and negativity... you dwell on making others miserable.
It's not working... spread your crap somewhere else, maybe you can talk with your imaginary friend at Dell.
Appologies in advance to the Mod's... I'm done on this rant on this idiot. -
WOW.. mobile phone updates, posh lol
-
I don't think they want EPP orders to cancel. I ordered through EPP and when I called to cancel my system (thank goodness I didn't) they gave me an additional $200 off just to keep me from canceling.
-
I work for Dell Canada...
I hear the same stories from my customer care friends as the stories you read on the forum...
So yeah... I am bascially on the same boat as rest of you...
Last time I was told because I upgraded almost everything on my M1330, a lot of parts I have are in back-order -
HCW - I don't mean to impune you but I think your source is feeding you suspect information. I think Kimo is right - and Flamenko - and Gratedraindrop and others.
Out of interest - does "Corporate" mean Corporate headquarters or "Corporate sales"?
P.S. I am not upset. Seeing as we are not receiving the machines I am just passing the time gossiping and rumour-mongering, playing detective and contributing what is really a soap opera. Let's not take anything too seriously. -
I am thinking that when we all start hitting and going past our ESD this is going to happen more and more.
-
I am saying that some isolated reports will come in over the next 10 to 14 days of people getting EPP orders but this will not be the norm. There are huge amounts of people that got big time discounts on the 1330's and for the most part this orders will be delayed. I will stay in touch with my contact at corporate and let ya'll know if there are any changes.
-
hmm, what happened to the kittin, build stage?
-
My corporate contact works in Mike Dells office and handles all the the major problems. I would believe what they are telling me before stuff posted on this forum by people that keep posting nonsense from outsourced reps in other countrys .
-
I see you posted on 14-Jul: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?p=2158945#post2158945
I was onto the shortage on 11-Jul: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?p=2145093#post2145093
;-) -
How do you get that view? I've got a much different one when I try to check the status of mine.
-
How many times do I have to prove Flameko wrong before people get the message ? I don't have the time right now to go back and to grab some quotes but the truth is right there in black and white . Have a great day
Anyone up for chat ?
Post when XPS M1330 ordered and when/if shipped
