That is very true in my case. I originally was looking at the m1330 as a portable powerhouse. After a while I started to think on why I needed something that small, other than the ability to easily take it with me practically anywhere.

At first I was hesitant on cancelling just because of the abnormal shipment delay, but after hearing some great advice from a few family members I opted to go for something more practical for my needs. And so, here I am eagerly awaiting the MacBook Pro.

My brother is still awaiting his m1330. Hopefully it arrives before school starts in September. Currently his ship date is at August 8th. The phone status system hasn't changed the date (or progress for that matter) on him, yet.

So far, I've used the memory card reader to import pictures I take with a digital camera and to transfer music to and from my phone, which supports mini-SD cards. I do both of those very rarely so I'm ok with the MBP not having a built in one.

I have been watching this forum for weeks now... also waiting on my m1330. And I'm tired of waiting. I was lied to, just like everyone else. The rep told me 1-2 weeks. I need this computer for work & I need a small one because I have to carry it all over the place. The "cute" factor is a plus... can anyone tell me if the sony sz is a good alternative to the 1330??? I think I'm cancelling my order tomorrow.

BTW all you "regulars" crack me up.

I'm in the same boat. Ordered 6/27, in build stage (seems like forever), with an estimated ship of 7/31.

Has anything changed really in the last few days? I haven't been on much, as you may or may not know, I canceled and I quit checking this thread so frequently.

Seems like there are a bunch of us that are in this position or thereabouts. My ESD is 8/1. The next fews days will be very interesting. My view is that anyone who had an ESD of much before 7/31 was probably misled by a sales rep. I'm pretty sure I used the configurator the morning the product was announced and got 7/31, and then I delayed for a day and got 8/1. I know this conjecture will not make it any better for those who are pissed they didn't get theirs by an earlier misleading ESD. However, if Dell misses the boat on the more "realistic" 7/31-8/1 dates, then the criticism will increase exponentially, unless it is only a few days delay like to 8/3 as some folks have been informed.

The SZ6 hasn't yet been released yet. I think it comes out on the 31st of this month. Sony's in general are a bit expensive for the parts they come with. The screen is a huge selling point though, as they're usually one of the best. Have you taken a look at the Sony C-series laptops (not the CR's)? They're of the "cute" variety you speak of.

:D We have to do something to pass the time while we await our shipments.

I can tell... you all can analyze the word of a BS-ing sales rep like no one I've ever seen. Completely entertaining... addictive listening to y'all.

Thanks... I'll check the C series. I know nothing about it. Not quite as notebook savvy as you guys :confused2:

Well, we've got plenty of time while we wait for the laptop, so we've been deconstructing every piece of information we can get our hands on - which isn't very much. ;)

We're here to help - ask away. You may want to check out the Sony section of the forum as well.

See the little button that says "QUOTE" in the bottom right area of someone's response? Click it and type your response underneath.

That sure looks like it. Good link - thanks.
Just because they make some cheap/bad screens doesn't mean they can't make good ones. How good is the listed 25ms response time? That is average these days isn't it?

even if it isnt on your order (doesnt have a part number) or you didnt choose to get one, it seems that they are all shipping in these cases regardless. also, i really doubt dell moved your laptop ship date back a month for a $60 case. Now LED screen causing the delays? much more plausible. led screen delays, palm rest delays, cover delays, and a few others are the most frequently mentioned in this thread. my b2b csr said that it was the LED screens that was the hold up and shipments were due to arrive this week and that production should ramp up quickly. again, id like to trust my b2b csr since he doesnt give a damn about a $2000 laptop when he sells six figures in servers to businesses like mine every month. just my 2 cents. do with it what you want. good luck and hope you get your 1330 before we all go crazy

25ms respons time doesn't sound to good to me. My desktop 17" benq monitor has 8ms response time. I know the comparison between laptop screen and desktop screen is not too concludent but still...25ms is slow

    ps.
As with the lcd screen manufacturer problem i belive that when Dell chooses between two LCD manufacturers, Samsung and CMO lets presume, for including in a premium product, is just like us customers choosing between a Dell branded laptop and a Acer one. Acer has some(not many) good laptops too but still we choose the Dell XPS M1330 premium.

The new Sony SZ600 Santa Rosa series is released on 8/1.

    Amazon has a pre-order:
    http://www.amazon.com/Sony-VGN-SZ65...8?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1185678440&sr=8-1

(hit the down chevron and you'll see all the models from 650 to 691)

and the Sony B2B has some details as well:
    http://b2b.sony.com/Solutions/subcategory/notebooks/sz-series

You can do what I did and order a Sony & a Dell and keep whatever comes first. I'm still inclined to stay with the XPS M1330 I like the KB and feature set better.

I need my unit by the end of Ausust so thats the deal breaker... not holding my breath that either will show by then however.

I've been looking at other laptops as well. I'm seriously looking at this one and the D630 laptop by Dell.

I'm leaning towards the Sony SZ6 tho... but I will see how the beginning of this week goes. I've decided that I'll give Dell a full month (from when I ordered) before I decide what to do next.

Crap - CMO makes MVA laptop panels, but it's a CCFL backlit one. The LED 13.3" is a TN panel. :( And 25ms is pretty bad - most LCD monitors nowadays are in the 5-8ms range.

I hope it doesn't adversely affect movie watching.

Everyone who ordered using DPA with a higher than normal interest rate, raise your hand. I bet Dell thinks I'm going to pay it off they will actually receive that high interest rate. Think again, Dell.
