Cliegal...can you check the service tag from the new laptop recived...it must have been written on a box label.
Best regards.
-
Ok this is going to be a newbie question....but how do you tell what stage your laptop is in? Mine only says In Production. I hear about an automated phone system...what is the number to check the status of your order more in depth?
-
use the search button
welcome to the site
-
If you're in the US its 1-800-433-9014
And it looks like Dell is not prioritizing against the EPP orders -
The service tag is on the box. The first laptop I've received, the second will be delivered by DHL tomorrow or Tuesday, latest.
-
I'm going to copy blahdude and say that this is the week that things really start happening.
I'm hoping that the 8/3 extension date for those with 6/26-6/29 dates is not just a random but close date to appease customers, but rather a sign that a shipment of missing parts is arriving. It's about time for this shortage to be over, on tuesday it'll be exactly 5 weeks since launch.
If the much needed parts do arrive today or tomorrow, it should be easy for them to move all of orders that were placed in June (and maybe some from early july) from build to shipped by friday. Especially if they have our laptops more or less assembled except for the missing parts. -
My order shipped today but no tracking number yet.
-
I wouldn't be so sure about that since most of the orders were placed using discounts on the EPP site that most people shouldn't have been using
-
Obligatory request for order date, original estimated ship date and laptop specs.
-
You dont have to be sure at all... Its a FACT right here on this site that EPP, if anything, is getting out just as fast if not quicker than the rest.
Its mute as to whether they should or not have been ordered via EPP and you couldnt even take a guess to comment on that.
Is it that hard really to concede??? -
I doubt "most" of the orders were placed using the Drake/Florida discount since they became unavailable really fast. If your contact told you that those orders would be delayed, that would actually be believable, but to say that all EPP orders would be discriminantly placed at the end of the production line is definitely not, and also definitely going against what is actually currently happening now
-
madcoweater's stats:
Order Date: 6/27
Build: 7/16
Testing: 7/25
Shipping Method: 3-5 days
Est. Ship Date: 8/1
Est. Delivery Date: 8/6-8
Country: USA -
There's a big difference between saying that DELL is scrutinizing EPP orders to ensure that those who used the discount are really students at the institutions they ordered through and making a blanket statement that EPP orders in general will be a second priority, behind regular orders, HCW.
Maybe DELL will penalize those drake orders (and other sketchy orders) by canceling them or sending them to the back of the queue. Maybe not. But I seriously doubt they'll penalize all EPP orders, especially right before students head back to school, just to hurt a few dishonest jerks. -
I ordered an m1330 on June 29 and the estimated ship date is August 3.
m1330 will have 2-GHz dual core, 2-GB-RAM, 200-GB HDD, LED display (w/ cam) and just about everything else I could think of, total cost like $2,700.
In the meantime, I walked into an Apple store last Sunday and walked out with a MacBook w/ 2.16-GHz dual core and 2-GB or RAM and 160-GB HDD. Added "Parallels" to run a Windows VM and added XP Home -- total bill about $2200.
Despite 28 years of CP/M, DOS, and Windows, by the time the Dell arrives, I might have gotten used to the MacOS -- AND maybe found something it does better than Windows (and not just different). Not needing to reinstall the OS in six months might be a plus, but that will take six months to find out. But not having an actual (forward) delete key (takes fn+backspace) is a real minus. Also not having a built in SD card reader. Keyboard is sure solid, though. And of course still needing to run a lot of stuff in Windows...
I've thought about cancelling the 1330 order, but given the lead time on these machines, I might do just as well selling in on eBay if I decide to stay with the Mac. Either way, somebody is gonna get a nice notebook computer of eBay in a couplafew weeks.
Does anybody actually have one of these m1330 machines?
--PS -
Fascinating ... so, I'm not the only one who has picked up a MacBook while waiting for delivery of an m1330? I can't wait to read more... what are other users experience like? Done with Windows forever?
Are there really six HUNDRED pages of posts in this thread???
--PS -
Checked my status today. Still listed as Build on phone.
Ordered noon EST June 27th. Estimated Ship time listed as Aug. 1st. Was given free overnight shipping. -
Only two... a few more will be receiving theirs this week
.
-
Amazingly... yes... there are about 6,000 posts in this thread. :-(
We are all on the same boat. I want my status to change! Dell has less than 24 hours to make that happen before I take action on those naughty ideas in my head. -
The FL and the Drake deal were up for at least 3 days. How many orders do you think Dell can take in that time frame ? I never said that all EPP orders would be delayed
-
Your EXACT quote!!!
"I hear that EPP orders are going to be delayed the longest ."
This was preceded by how you just...just...got off the phone with corporate. -
Oh and this...it deserved its own post:
"It's the truth ... Watch people that ordered with educational discounts will be the last to get there laptops. I don't play around with peon Dell reps and only deal with Corporate reps in round rock ."
Right from you HCW.
I just cant figure out whos last now EPP or educational... -
You didn't discriminate between EPP and EPP Drake/Florida deals in your previous posts, but if that's what you meant then that's actually believable and those people have no right to complain about their status unless they're actually attending those universities
-
I don't think that EPP orders are being delayed.
Order Date : 7/13
In Progress (assuming build) : 7/13ish (didn't really check)
Testing : 7/26
Boxing : 7/29
Original EDD : 9/13
I ordered with EPP (though through my employer and not my school, so it is a Business EPP) -
was this a usa order?
i ordered on the 16th and have always had a ship date of aug 30th. yours was for 9/13??
-
Reading about a) the level of interest in these machines and b) the long lead times, makes you wonder if, once they start showing up, you could "flip" these machines on eBay -- at profit? That's certainly not why I ordered one, but, like I say, it's going to have to blow the MacBook away if I'm going to keep it.
Hafta wait until I have both machines in front of me before I can make the call... maybe week after this?
BTW, what's "EPP" ?
--PS -
I thought it stood for educational personal purchase or something along those lines (you can get up to a 12% discount depending on the configurations/warranty/final price, but some universities like Drake and UF (?) had a special deal where people were getting somewhere in the ballpark of $500 off the 1330 system but it was taken down really fast probably to avoid its exploitation or because their quota was hit)
-
I think EPP is Employee Purchase Program and I suspect we are mis-using it by applying it to education discounts.
-
There's an update at direct2dell now
-
it was around $850 off for the record. More trolling going on today . It's really getting old ! It is not proper to call somebody out on a message board. -
Here it is!
"I know that many of you have been waiting for an update on the status of the XPS M1330 notebook, and I wanted to take a few minutes to share where we are. While we have begun shipping on a limited basis, we expect to begin large-scale production and to ship systems in all regions beginning this week.
As Lionel mentioned in a previous update, there are some components like the LED display that may add time to an estimated ship date.
Dell provides estimated ship dates using many factors, including the time it takes to ramp production on a new product in our factories worldwide. We use that time to rigorously test our global sales, manufacturing and quality processes and to deal with issues that inevitably come up when we start to build new products in large quantities in our factories. What do I mean by issues? Things like part shortages, technical glitches, simple cosmetic issues, and other unanticipated issues that can arise when you start mass production.
One of the simplest and most reliable ways to monitor the progress of your order is by checking My Order Status on Dell.com.
For existing orders, our teams are doing everything they can to meet the estimated ship dates you were quoted at the time your order was placed. We will contact customers on a case by case basis if their particular orders will experience further delay.
Moving forward, Lionel will use the blog to provide updates on several things related to the XPS M1330. He'll continue to work with members of my team to understand the latest developments and will share them here.
Before signing off, I wanted to thank all of our XPS M1330 customers for your business. In the meantime, we appreciate your patience."

Almost 6000 posts, 2 units delivered since launch, 3000$ taken from my CC by Dell...bet 100$ Michael Dell doesn't know a thing about whats happening with Dell's customers and i hope he will get fired by the Board of Administrators for lossing to many clients
ps...former Dell CEO had same faith
-
Finally....
reading it... -
Michael Dell 's executive team is well aware of the problems that we are facing
-
hehe I was sure the LED display were the problem
-
I'm excited to see mass-production starting officially....might not be too much longer friends!
-
"Beginning this week... " does that mean TODAY?
-
I'll believe it when I see it.
-
Well, still a lot of what we knew already. What I want to know is why they would release a laptop, with no indication that it's some sort of pre-order dealio, if they hadn't even started mass production yet. Obviously the problems arose when they actually started production on the machines, which had to have been after the launch.
I have no problems with problems during production; parts shortages, manufacturing problems and so forth are definitely part of the whole process and do happen. However, it is unacceptable, in my mind, to take general availability orders when production has not yet started and make no indication (at least to early buyers, such as myself) that there is in fact no finished product yet. Then this exact situation could happen, where problems are discovered at production time and a lot of customers get peeved off. -
When I read that I assumed Monday
...but then again, their factories are 24/7 right? -
except if they have further delays for LED displays...
-
i personally like the changes i've seen with dell since michael dell took over again. i agree that interacting with the csr's stinks though. they don't seem to be well informed, are relatively patronizing, and those i've interacted with (outside of sales, which i'm sure is by design) don't seem to have great command of the english language.
when i ordered, though, i was shown an estimated delivery date before clicking to finalize the order. it hasn't changed.
ordered 7/9, edd 8/29. -
Have faith my D630 friend!
-
me too I ordered the 9th of July and I received the 14th of August as EDD. It didn't change since.
-
Maybe accompanied by a chasis backorder and other parts of the m1330... heh.
-
Thats what I thought as well (at first), but yea... Dell factories are 24x7.
-
perhaps in the states, but I'll be surprised if it was the case in Europe.
-
take what you read on that blog with a grain of salt and a entire bottle of vodka
-
The status site is "very reliable" because for us in the UK it has been broken for the last couple of weeks, so we have to pay 8p per min to call dell and ask
-
Kinda like what I do with your posts...
Lol j/k! -
that really sucks, the French Dell number also isn't free. But the German (I live in Germany) is, however it doesn't help since I don't speak German...
Post when XPS M1330 ordered and when/if shipped
