So what I gather from the blog, the people who got their laptops first were HUMAN GUINEA PIGS!?!?! They were supposed to test out if the computer is working and such? How is that a good idea? They should have pre-built models that their lines should put-out (to test their manufacturing process) and have their ENGINEERS test on the product to see if its fully functioning properly.

Just learn the word 'shipped' so when you hear it, you can soil yourself.

Please remember that I got the specs for that screen based on someone elses post that they knew the manufacturer. We do not have any proof yet that is the exact screen we are getting.
There have been many stories about how response times can be fudged a lot by using a grey-to-grey timing. Let's not freak out, maybe Tileman could watch a fast action movie and tell us if he sees any ghosting?
They did not design it as a wedge purely for marketing so they could say it's thin. The wedge design is one of the nice features of the system, it really makes it look nice. The MBP pro looks good, but is very boxy too.
It's like those funny looking square cars out there, some people like the cars that look like boxes on wheels, I prefer the more areo-dynamic sleek looking cars (like my Mazda3).
Don't get me wrong, I like the MBP too. I just think that Dell was going for something sleeker and different.
When Dell says "starting this week" assume Friday.
The way I look at it is that it's obvious they have not ramped up full production yet. They have too very soon, and this week seems like a reasonable time. -
Sprechen sie Deutsch? I don't know if I spelled that right... LOL.
-
yeah..they gave Cliegal the wrong LCD and Tileman a pixel dead screen to see if they will react violent and threat Dell with homemade bombs
-
Oh yea,,, Nothing starts on time with Dell ... they have to delay the "ramp-up". I forgot....
-
Oh ... I forgot. It's actually to test consumer patience. I don't mind it then...
-
What'd you call me?
-
"this week" = "this year"...in Dell Time Format
-
I have been doing anus workouts so when I hear my system has shipped I do not loose full sphincter control.
-
Exactly -- this is not a commodity. There will be, in theory, supply that is totally elastic in response to demand. It is not like 2005 Burgundy where if you want it you gotta get in on it early, long before delivery dates.
There is not reason Dell could not have taken care of all of the supposed issues they have been dealing with in the last 5 weeks that dude mentions in his "update," such as "part shortages, technical glitches, simple cosmetic issues ..." in a limited release program. That and call it a "pre-order."
Compare it to the iPhone. People were lining up in the streets for a product that was available. It was announced with a delivery date. It was available that day. Etc... I realize Dell is custom, etc., but they should have handled this with far more care than they did.
I would be incensed if I was a Dell shareholder. As it is, I am only a customer... And maybe not that again. -
Well played.
...I however, am sporting a very comfortable adult diaper -
LOL... I asked "Do you speak German" for those who can't put it through a translator.
-
Lol, I know what it meant
. I have a friend who took German
...just mess'n with ya Senor Blah -
did the screen of cliegal turn out to be a standard LCD?
-
Entendido!!!
-
Yeah, I've also posted a comment over at Direct2Dell, along the same lines as I wrote earlier. Hopefully they'll acknowledge that the problem, at this point, goes beyond poor communication.
-
Yes, it was a standard LCD.
-
he must be pissed off!
-
SHE has a second laptop in shipping tho... that is (hopefully) a LCD LED screen.
-
on the other hand I remember he said the display was awesome, I've also ordered a standard LCD
-
they're going to replace it for her soon and she's got another M1330 that's already being shipped, so I think she's okay
-
what about the other guy who received his laptop, was it also a standard LCD?
-
tileman? ... his was an LED LCD.
-
this thread really goes too fast to follow...
-
yeah with the dead pixel...
-
And it has a dead pixel so he's having tech replace the screen. Wonder if he had that done yet?
-
cliegal how was the CCFL display?
-
Yer that was me who put that on. Really Annoying, and once more!> they dont tell you that your being charged!
I asked once and they say, no its toll free, so i thought ok cool. Since the website was down i called everyday to see where it was and then my phone bill came through!, Ive restrained myself to 1ce every 3 days now. Not Happy At All!!
-
It's really amazing they even try to make profits with the hotlines! I guess it's also a good reason to make us wait for hours on the line...
-
Try putting the flat side next to your back...

Aren't the CMO LED panels going in Apple notebooks now? Dells seems obsessed with CMO and AUO panels now. It won't be pretty if all these M1330's arrive with dead pixels. Maybe they'll learn then
-
pieman314 do you think to upgrade the CPU later?
-
I'm back in boxing again, lol...
-
If its possible for them to do it, then i may send it back and get an upgrade to the 2.0 or 2.2 maybe, also depends if i can afford it!
-
I was thinking the same, is they delay the delivery perhaps I'll switch to the 2GHz, the difference is 150euro though... In one year we can buy a 2.4GHz at this price...
-
Anybody else find the fact that the only two screens received so far (on this forum) had problems (bad pixel, wrong screen) is worrying? What if after two months of waiting we get an M1330 with a bad pixel or two? Just below Dell's replacement threshold? Or even if they do replace we have to wait weeks longer?
I'm worried, thinking of cancelling. -

It's very possible, but I'm willing to take that risk. If I get an m1330 with a dead pixel, it's back in the box and off to Dell the same day. No way I'd keep it! But don't worry until you see the screen. A dead pixel can happen with ANY notebook. -
a sample of two isn't really representative...
-
you can always return it, if you don't like it...
-
I'm hoping you are right. We'll find out this week hopefully.
-
We could, after waiting two months for it... ha... that would be really, really annoying.
-
Don't believe a word it says on the Direct2Dell site until HCW's higher ups confirm...
This is encouraging news and something that some of the CSR's already told people on this forum that a lot of units will be shipped this in August.
MOST (not all) of us (in the US) have mid to late August ship dates even though we ordered in early July.
I'm speculating that we learned about parts shortages long after Dell (think about that) knew about them and these delays were already calculated into the ESD's for MOST of us (hence the majority of us with 8/1 or later ESD's).
You early birds 6/27-7/5 (or so) folks were so quick to order (and in such a large volume) that it took Dell some time to compute increased part orders & new production dates so you guys got bad ESD's.
Since there is a bios upgrade there was another issue in the mix.
Again this is pure speculation on my part...
Congrats to all who get thier's next week, we are green with envy (or is that Tuxedo Black).
I'm scheduled for an 8/23 delivery but will bet even money it comes before because my order was "EXPIDITED". -
I agree with Kimo and so does my b2b csr. he told me last week that they were planning on ramping up production around this week and that all these really later esd's (ie mid/late aug and early sept) would most likely ship early and that the reason for the late esd's was to avoid having to delay them like they did with the people who ordered in late june/early july. I would expect that in the next 2 weeks, there will be quite a few happy campers in this thread (hopefully me with my 9/6 esd)
-
did cliegal or tileman test the battery? It is really unclear how long a 6 cell battery lasts, any idea?
-
Clie told me that she was disapointed in how long the battery lasted and could understand why the 4 cell was removed when you ordered the better card
-
"Using the 6-cell battery under normal usage (office work and screen brightness at half) I got around 3 hours of battery life."

Or is the word Extirpated ? ;-)
-
I just read the so-called "update" on the Direct2Dell blog site. Dell is becoming uber-fantastic in shelling out false hopes and commitments.
-
I agree... they should win an award for it.
Post when XPS M1330 ordered and when/if shipped
