Post when XPS M1330 ordered and when/if shipped

I was talking about the next day shipping and how it's a waste. I do think we will see more orders trickle in over the next 9 days

 

How's NBD shipping a waste? If it shaves off a few days off the delivery date, I say, go for it. If it's free, that is

 

yeah i never understood your reasoning HCW always saying its a waste it does save you some days no matter how you look at it grant it this wont speed up the actual production process but once its complete itll get to you faster than if you didnt have it.

 

Well, I've been following this thread since I ordered and thought I might as well chime in since I just went to shipping!

I'm ordering from Toronto, on the dell.ca site, no discounts.

Since the 16th the status/EDD has not changed, orders have not been cancelled.

Interesting Notes: no bluetooth, yes LED, ordered through small business (does this make a difference?)

I got an email from a CSR to confirm my order that day with his personal email address and phone extension in his signature. He was difficult to hear on the line so I insisted on email correspondence. After I complained about needing the computer for school, he wrote this.

"This is to inform you that the order which you have placed is in production process. I have put a rush on this order. I will see that you will receive the system within 27th august. However, I will update you if we are facing any problem as it is a new product line." -19 Jul

And later this:
"This is to inform you that the order is in production. Till now we have not faced any issues with your order. I have put a rush on this order. I will see that you will receive the system within 15th august. However, I will update you if we are facing any problem as it is a new product line." -28 Jul

Today I got this:
"This is to inform that your order has been shipped out. It will take 5 to 7 bussines to reach you. Please check the order status online after 24 working hours from now."

For the dell.ca users out there, my order status page still says "in production" (I'll check again in 24hrs) but My Orders>Order Status says "delivery Preparation" even though my EDD has not changed.

Hrm, Indeterminate, your order sure shipped out quick. I'm still waiting on mine and I ordered July 4th. Perhaps the lack of a dedicated video card on your part has something to do with the early shipment?

 

Could also do because he just ordered it straight off the dell site, no haggling like we all do .

 

I didn't haggle either. Straight off the Dell site (well, after conversing with a rep about the lead time - he assured me it would be 10-15 days... yeah, we know how that turned out) but with the 15% mystery coupon that was available in Canada.

 

I sure hope so, since I have that date, too!! And they havn't called me saying that it was delayed yet. Best of luck to you.

EDIT: actually my arrival date is 8/1. I hope it either gets delivered or it gets delayed 8 days, since I am gonna be out of town for a week. It would ruin my vacation to have it sitting at home while I'm away.

 

since like i have your same exact specs too hopefully man I havent gotten any delays either but then again people got delays like a day before their est. ship date but fingers crossed we'll get in on time.

I am still in the build stage. Order date 6/26 and EST ship date 7/31. If it does not ship then I am going to cancel the order and get a VAIO SZ6. Time is running out for Dell.

 

well as of right now order still says in build though it is due to ship today. Rep said she will be calling me tomorrow but swore everything was on time to ship today.
I went and looked at the MBP, went over to the dell kiosk and looked at a dummy black m1330 and took a few pics with my cell, then walked over and spoke to my friend at the Sony Style store. He said est release for the new SZ is aug 1st but he does not know if it will launchon that day and if it does if theyw ill have it in store. Told me some of the updates such as Santa Rosa, wireless N, 8x00 series videom from 7x00, etc. Gave me his # again to call and check availability on the 1st without having to drive.

 

Same situation but I cant afford to cancel.

I was talking with a Dell CSR in chat yesterday and he said I could add the free messenger bag offer without delaying my laptop. I haven't been able to call the modifications department yet so I dunno if it will work for sure or not. Anyone else got the messenger bag added to their order?

Not sure about anyone else but it actually sounds like Dell is making progress!!! I expect the conversation to be way different next Sunday.

I might get on chat again and see if I can't get my date moved up a little bit or at least get it put on rush as well because I too have school plus some business stuff going on.

If the ESD is early september, I really wish I could just convince myself to get the Vaio SZ6 but again I KNOW I will feel like an idiot when I see someone at school pull out their m1330 and pwn me!

how would they own you? The SZ6 is just as powerful (if not possibly more) as the m1330, same size screen but the sz's LED screen is SO much thinner and if you get the Graphite version it is even thinner, more durable, and far more attractive than the black, red, or white plastic that the m1330 has. Video is the same or more powerful? (not sure if it will have the 8400 or 8600), just doesn't have hdmi right?

 

It's says it will ship the same day as my laptop at the end of August

 

If I am not mistaken HCW recently re-placed his order when the free bag offer was active. He believes that no laptops will ship until late August so he does not think it will affect the ship date to place the order again.

So I do not think he got the bag added to an old order for free. But one or two other people have reported that happening, but mostly people are saying that the CSRs refuse to do it.

 

So anyway I have a tracking number with DHL. We use DHL at work so I know they're not terrible. But I have a great reputation with UPS from newegg. So I'm sort of concerned... what if they dont know about my land mines

 

then your m1330 may blow up and you will have to start your 5 week wait all over again..... oh and the DHL guy might die but no biggie

 

The remote on the m1330 will be nice for what I do plus the HDD RPM on the Vaio is only 5400 but I got 7200 on my XPS. HDMI will be nice as well. I haven't looked into the SZ6 a whole lot but I did do a quick wish list. Plus with the little perks I've gone through with the m1330 (free shipping, $200 off, timbuk2 bag) I would feel too guilty.

 

Damn Dell. I just did the customer service chat and they wouldn't give me anything. NO expedited shipping, NO free bag, NO $200 off or even apply a $150 off coupon I just got. Is there a certain way to do this?

 

Not to mention the Sony costs considerably more

 

My CSR declined twice. A (very) polite email to the CSRs supervisor resolved both the T2 bag and 4>6 cell issue without reordering. Both are being shipped separately. I get the impression that the CSRs are told to decline. Perhaps in hopes of most people wandering off without canceling orders.

I think the best approach is being polite and persistent.

 

I talked to a guy at a Dell kiosk today and he seemed very well informed. He also has an m1330 on order which entered boxing, then went back to testing, and then back again to production where it is at right now. He told me that a great deal of the people that have received m1330 with LED screens have had to return them because monitor problems (dead pixels) and a bios problem causing the 4 cell video card conflict.

The 4 cell battery problem has been amended with a bios update and the production process with the LED is very quickly smoothing out.

I myself have been in boxing and I expect to be in (hopefully) shipping tomorrow.

He was not trying to sell me anything because I made it clear that I already had mine in boxing.

 

I have 2 seperate orders one I placed Friday night and one that I placed on June 28th both have the $150 bags and the ship date on the first one did not change since the order was modifed .

 

when i judge a laptop I don't judge it based on trivial parts such as a HDD which is user replaceable. If you wanted a 7200rpm HD in a Sony SZ6 you could have it even if sony does not have it as an option. I judge laptops (and other things such as car models) on things that can't be changed/added such as the HDMI on the m1330, formfactor, video, etc. The $200 off, timbuk2 bag (which is ugly and I would ebay anyway), free shipping, etc doesn't make your m1330 better than the Sony SZ6. So I wouldn't feel bad about having an SZ6 with someone busting out their m1330 in front of me other than the for the hdmi, somewhat formfactor, and the time I wasted with dell lol.
However like Ausbrad pointed out the Sony costs a good $600-700 for a comparable model but you get a thinner screen, graphite screen casing, and a hybrid video solution whre you can SWITCH between the integrated graphics and discrete graphics which the dell doesn't have.

 

Re: the Timbuk2 bag, I called about it and had a chat with a very nice CSR. She couldn't confirm anything about the 4 cell battery, so I didn't pressure her for it, and when I asked about the bag she offered me a $150 coupon instead which I accepted. Since I didn't really need the bag, it seemed like a pretty good deal. For now, I'm sticking with the m1330. Come August 15th, if things look no different than they do now, I may think otherwise, but we'll see what happens.

 

dell may actually start shipping ON OR B4 their estimated ship dates like they sed they would, finally

 

I wonder where this "great deal of people" are. Hardly anyone here has received the M1330, LED backlight screen or not.

As for it having been amended... I wonder if that's true. Right now, if you try to place an order w/for the M1330 w/4 cell battery, it still complains about there being a compatibility problem.

 

I think it might depend on the cost of the notebook. If it's over $2000, I would think you could get a rep. to crack a little more. They and their supervisor get commission for each sale. The timbuk2 bag offer was already in place when I ordered mine. The $200 off was because I did an order online then called in to order it and for some reason (I still don't know) I was getting a lower price for what the rep. was reading off to me so she just let it go but that was after a pretty good chat and after some haggling. The free shipping happened because after the order was in place, she told me it would be to me at the end of August and I told her I couldn't do that and I simply hung up So she called back 5 minutes later and offered me free next day delivery.

All depends on the CSR so hopefully you get lucky.

 

I was going through these forums and threads earlier today, and I could swear I found a discussion of why the m1330 is more expensive than the MacBooks... something about better components, Apple using cheaper parts... can anybody tell me whre I saw that... ??? Is it true?

I have an ESD of Friday 8/3 on my m1330 but bought a MacBook in the meantime to see what all the fuss is about. Enh.

Regardless of whether it's cheaper or not, it's not really an apples to apples comparison. The Macbook cannot be equipped w/discrete graphics (it uses old Intel GMA 950), doesn't have the Santa Rosa chipset and newer processors nor the 800 mhz FSB, 7200 rpm hard drives and it doesn't have an LED backlit screen as an option. The Macbook also maxes out at 2 gigs of RAM vs. 4 gigs.

 

The number of people who ordered the m1330 on this board is very very insignificant compared to the total orders for the m1330 system so who knows how many people have the m1330 in their possession right now.

 

You can't use the $150 off coupon on an existing order. The coupon states on your NEXT purchase. I ordered mine the day before this coupon came out and I tried to get 3 different reps to apply it to my order. None of them did so I just did a cancel and reorder since I placed it the day before. This way I also got the free messenger bag as well. As for the expedited shipping you might be better off calling customer service to get that done.

 

All I had to do to get overnight shipping and a $50 credit is say "I want to cancel my order because I was lied to & I'm being treated like crap" to a chat CSR. It was basically given to me, no problems.

 

Remember that the people on this board only represent an extremely small amount of total orders for the m1330 so several people have actually received notebooks.

I also recently heard of a bios update which seems to help with the 4 cell | vid card combo. Seems reps may actually be getting matching information

I agree partially about the next day shipping being a waste. Dell is willing to give it for free to retain customer orders. The benefit is regular shipping is 3-5 days for me. I didnt call and ask for the upgrade. If it ships on a weds or later, it means I wouldnt receive it until the next week. With next day, I would get it before the weekend. No matter, I can wait a few more days.

I do hope youre right about the orders trickling in.
