Post when XPS M1330 ordered and when/if shipped

Read is context please. I did not say "a great deal of people had received their m1330". I said a great deal of those who had actually received it.

 

I got a CSR to add the Messenger Bag Offer to my order. She said it would be sent after I received my laptop though.

Delivered.. Finally!!.. I am at college, and it was delivered at my home, so pictures would have to wait..

Darn that's what I suspected, it seems that in this trickle phase of the operation, I've only seen black m1330's shipped (easier to manufacture lids? problems with the red die and white gloss? it's up for speculation.)
What I would suspect, is that we'll know when the full manufacturing push is brought to bear is when some red and white m1330's start getting into people's hands.

This is just speculation by the way, and yes I do know about that reviewer who got a red one, it's just strange that out of all the orders that have been listed as shipped on this forum, if i remember correctly they have all been black.

LED displays usually take longer to ship.

 

Sony allege that it is durable but I don't think they make a comparative statement against the Dell.

In any case I think the difference in thickness of screens is not that major. The 9 year old Sony Vaio PCG-505V next to me has a screen which is 8mm thick at the bezel and less where the display is. (That machine is pretty nice apart from how badly it is under-powered by today's standards).

Video is less powerful in the SZ as it is the same 8400M GS card but has less dedicated memory (64 vs 128 MB)

In a lot of non-US markets I think the SZ will be priced at a big premium over the Dell. For me anyway, it is unlikely to come with a option for English OS (the SZ4 series didn't). I am going to hang in there for the M1330.

So you are then the first known customer to receive the notebook outside the US, right?

Thats giving me hope that EMEA might start delivering some time soon as well.

As Nalada mentioned the sony sz6 has less GPU dedicated memory, only 64. No HDMI which is the next best thing.. and your paying another 500-600 dollars more for the "sony" tag. Weaker performance + more costly = totally impractical, but not wrong, just preference i guess. It your money you decide how to spend it.

As for the switching of GPUs all SZ have, at first i was amazed by the sound of it the 1st time, when the 1st of its kind was release. Later i went on to discover from my friends that you have to reboot to switch GPUs.. and in the end.. after a while.. you just get to lazy to switch anymore.. and just remain using 8400GS. Well thats my opinion and a few of my mates.

Lastly.. since the sz is going to have both 8400GS 64MB and the X3100.. with Intel's latest boost from their new drivers.. i really wonder how much of a performance boost will you get when you switch from x3100 to the weaker 8400 GS

 

Uhh...at least 250% boost according to the benches out there. The 8400 is a very good card, especially compared to the 7400. The intel media graphics just barely gets 1000 3dmark05 points, Sony's 7600 gets around 3000, the 8400 should get probably 2500 from Sony, while dell should get anywhere from 3100-3800, depending on your system config.

 

About the 4-cell batteries and 2.4 GHz processor.

I guess the BIOS update that provides compatibility just throttles the cpu back when running on the battery. This may be fine for people who buy the 4-cell as they may mainly want maximum portability and the battery will preserve the machine state in sleep mode (does Vista work like XP Standby still using volatile RAM?).. and they may mainly use mains power when the machine is on... but if you are thinking of getting 2.4GHz speed running on the 4-cell battery then this might give cause to pause and wonder if the premium for the processor is worth it.

Also - as there was a shortage of 9 and 4 cell batteries mentioned earlier - Dell may not be in too much of a hurry to put the 4-cell option back on their web.

ok as of right NOW my order is in the TESTING stage! However it is the 30th today and it was supposed to ship the 29th.

The weaker 8400GS? are you saying it is weaker than the x3100? or that it is weaker from the previous 7x00 series int he SZ?

 

He's calling the 8400 weaker than the x3100...probably not familiar with yet. I just called up...I'm still in pre-production.

you would think that yours would be the next to ship based on your order date thats around 2 days before I placed mine.

My online US order status (see sig for specs) has now updated itself. It used to say 7/29 ship date, but now it says 8/3.

 

Well, my updated ETA is the 3rd of August according to two reps. I'm hopeful that I'll get it then and I'll write up a review of the thing over the long weekend.

Otherwise, I get to think about what could have been for 3 days instead of 2.

I was referring "the weaker 8400GS" as the weaker version of the 8400GS in SZ6, compared to the M1330.

 

Got my tracking number yesterday, my m1330 was at the regional sort facility last night. Hopefully I'll receive it this morning in a few hours.

 

ok so i'm in canada, i ordered on july 10. yesterday i was in build and today ...im shipped!!! it seems kinda weird to me, that went through testting and boxing in a day....but I'LL TAKE IT!

 

So if early july orders are being mass produced and shipped now that means for someone like me who ordered end of july would have to come at around end of august

 

That's strange since they couldn't have shipped it on the 29th anyway...No shipping on Sundays...Unless you aren't in the US?

A couple of people on SD are reporting that theirs shipped BEFORE the ETA of 8/30 !!! So far, it looks like they ordered the standard LCD screen....

 

That doesn't surprise me at all, considering the main backlog for the m1330 is the LED screen

I'm on the phone with Dell right now trying to get my free Timbuk2 bag. They even advertise the free bag on the front page of the Dell University site ... I don't know why they've been refusing to give it to people.

He gave me a $150 coupon on the Dell website, but he says he'll only give it to me after the notebook ships.
