I do not think they have "big shipments" I believe they just fill up pallets and schedule shipments when they fill up? So once production ramps up I am sure you will see regular large shipments coming to USA. Atleast from my understanding of from what I have read here.
Shipments were not the problem up until now, it's just getting the units on the pallet. I am sure they have several shipments a week for Inspirons and Latitudes already going out.
I think it is a good idea. Once we all get our laptops and are looking for help we will be pleased to see that there are fewer "status," "dell CSR suck," and "my laptop shipped" threads cluttering up the main forum when we are looking for help.
I subscribe to all the threads I reply to so I can see the latest posts in my control panel, and I browse the forums every now and then.

dame... I'm really hoping/expecting to ship today.. I've been in boxing since thursday. A rep called me on Thursday and said it should ship in 2-3 days... and today is day 4 (but i guess sunday doesn't really count)... Anyway i know i shouldn't believe the rep, but i can't help if he got my hopes up.
I'm going to dell chat now to see if can add the free bag. -
yeah im in the same spot, but i think mine went into boxing on wednesday...so im expecting it to ship today/tomorrow
-
For those who ordered through the phone, the easiest way to get a free bag is through the person who you initially ordered through. I just got the free timbuck2 bag added without any reorder and it will ship out with my laptop free of charge and next day priority.
-
Wow, this is bull****. I'm in the build stage, it ships tomorrow, and they havn't told me anything. I called customer support and the woman gave me a number to dial to get more information. I dialed it, and its some $ex hotline. **** Dell. This is the first ****ing time I have called. Talk about ****ty service.
Now I've been waiting on the higher education sales hotline for 21 minutes and nobody has picked up yet. This is completely ridiculous. I'd definitely cancel my order right now if Dell wasn't the only company to offer what I want before school starts.
If they give you the number (800) 436 - 3355 just ask for their manager. -
try the number they gave you with 877 or 888, not 800
-
The latest as of 12:18 073007: Dell has actually called me back and informed me that my computer is in the "build" stage. Which I guess comes after the "kit" stage -- i.e. they have all the parts and now they're putting it together. The guy on the phone says test and boxing only take a day, so, who knows, maybe it'll ship sooner.
I was then switched to a different CRS rep, and I put on my most polite tone of voice (a rarity when it comes to dealing with computer companies on the phone...) and asked real nice if they could ship overnight when the time comes and... yeah, they upgraded me to next day delivery when it ships.
Now we'll just wait and see if indeed it's ready in the next coupla/few days.
Just when I was starting to like the MacBook..<*sigh*>
--PS -
Wow, she definitely gave me 800. I have the replay. Oh well. Case closed. Honest mistake I guess. I'm still angry for having to wait on the phone for half an hour and still get no service. I just hung up. Trying the 877 number now.
EDIT: Damn, looks like I"m waiting another half hour for no results. Woohoo. -

My July4th order went from "build" to "testing" today
-
As far as I can tell BUILD basically means that they have approved your payment and sent the ordering for building. Knitting comes next, which is when they have all the parts and are putting the system together, then testing, and boxing.
If what the direct2dell blog said is true then you might see shipping within 2 weeks, if they are lying then it could be longer. -
around what time did they update it? They say i am still missing an LED w/cam screen. All these posts about progress is very settling. Thank god for good news finally.
-
Wow, grats Frontier. I don't know how accurate that thing is, though. My 6/26 order is still in build, but supposed to ship tomorrow and I've not been notified of any delays.
-
codemonkeyx any more information on the turbo memory?
-
I've got a black model and I'm still stuck in build too
-
More of the trickle effect. We should 3 to 4 members of this site get there laptops this week.
-
I have it at my house.
But I can not try it out without my laptop.
-
lmfao @ HCW.

My arrival date is August 22nd. I'll definetly get it alot sooner. I was stick in build too, and on Friday called and had it expedited with next day shipping. Not sure if that helped or not, but at least it's moving along now. Supposed to get my free messenger bag too hopefully. -

Great! Give us some impressions on the screen when you get time. Hopefully it's an LED with NO dead pixels
-
I'm hoping mine gets shipped soon... I'm to the point of where I'm not even looking forward to it anymore. Getting the new toy 5 weeks after ordering it is a buzz kill.
-
Delivered!? Post pics!
-
Hay I am just getting more excited, especially now that a few things are starting to happen. Some people getting their systems etc. The only problem is the system can not live up to what I have built up in my mind.
If one thing is wrong with it I will be so disappointed.
-
OK... I just cancelled my previous order w/ ship date 8/22 and placed a new one, so i can get $150 off and a free bag. I bet it's shipping in November now.
-
All these new deliveries make me wonder.... What the hell was Dell's priority?
-
no dead pixels, awesome brightness. i will install turbo memory and let you guys now...
my box was double taped for some reason, it was sealed and then resealed. maybe they had to repack it. i'll post some pictures in about 10 minutes -
Sould say Sept 6th -
Code, I think the problem is my ESD has come and gone...so I'm just blahhhh now. I'll get it when I get it. WHICH BETTER BE THIS DAMN WEEK!
-
You will have to be more specific? Shipping priority?
I am thinking they have shortages of Red and White. They probably expected a lot of people to get black, but under estimated Red and White.
Because no one here (as far as I know) has moved passed "Build Stage" with a red or white system.
Just another theory though. -
Where are you located and what did you get ? Can you take some video and pics ?
-
I would be so happy if it does say Sept. 6th.
-
Finaly got the free Timbuk2 bag. I ordered online and had no sales rep to deal with. took the 11th rep and 3 different departments to get this done.
-
Woot, I just got kitting today so hopefully it'll be testing in the next day or 2
-
Yeah... like me!!! I am really happy for you Monkhi, but a little peeved with Dell. We compared systems and there are exactly two differences with our systems:
1) I got the 160GB (7200rpm) versus your 120GB (5400rpm) HD
2) I ordered mine three days earlier!!!
This give me the indication they have no f'in idea what they're doing or why certain orders are shipping before others. Mine has apparently always been in build and never left that phase.
Congrats man, you won the lottery! Send some pictures to make me feel better.
THL
-
YES!!! Reordered today and new Ship Date is 09/04
-
Looking back through this thread - it looks like Monkhi's is black too. Grrr!
I suppose there is a shortage of satin and mother-of-pearl. -
Are you planning on running Vista 64-bit? Or Windows XP 64-bit? Because only those versions of Windows will recognize the full 4GB of memory, unless I am mistaken.
-
Engagdet has a new (?) posting about the Dell delay for the XPS M1330:
http://www.engadget.com/2007/07/30/dells-xps-m1330-finally-ships-to-all-regions-this-week/
It doesn't say anything new about the situation, other than that things are beginning to pick up and orders are being completed (i.e. shipped world-wide) this week. -
Dammit... Didn't know that. O well. I didn't order it from Dell cuz they over charge. It's some OCZ stuff I got from Frys.com for $170.

In theory they can, but Microsoft artificially limited the max memory on some of the lower end versions of Vista. So I think Vista Home Basic can only see 2GB, and I think everything over Vista Home Prem can see 4GB+.
-
Congrats!
Looks great. -
Wow its amazing...
-
here is another update on my hunt for the free bag. they did NOT give me the free Timbuck2 back, the rep placed an order for a CityGear Atlanta Messenger ( cheap 30.00 bag) I called back AGAIN. this time they tried to say that the bag was just for my troubles but that I did not deserve the Timbuk2 bag. WTF ?!?! So I asked why they were sending me one bag but on the phone promised me something else. After going back and forth, they are still sending me the cheapo bag AND a coupon for 150.00
There cust service is horible that you have to waste so much time and effort but it turned out good in the end for me cause I can order that 160gig 7200 rpm drive off their site for my new M1330
-
Wow that screen looks awesome, even with the flash right reflecting off of it you can see the deep colors already.
Nice job with the pics, you took ones that everyone else has missed so far. -
Look on the bright side: you did future-proof your machine for the ability to run the next version of Windows, which I think at this point is code-named Vienna (due out sometime at the end of this decade).
What is it now with Microsoft code-naming Windows with words beginning with the letter V and ending with the letter A?
-
Oh and while all that was going on I moved from testing to boxing
-
The new development name is "7"....
Post when XPS M1330 ordered and when/if shipped
