It's all good. I am resigned to my Aug 21st ship date and Aug 22nd delivery date. I should have placed the order the day it came out but I was in between jobs.
I'm in Texas too.
I just don't have the time to "cancel" my order. I can get by on my old clunker of a D600 for a little while longer I suppose.
-
I ordered on 7/5 and my ship date always showed 8/3, actually it moved even before my call to Dell..from 8/13 to 8/3. The rep assured me it would ship by 7/21 (?) Hopefully that will be the norm with everyone. Does anyone know how long are they typically in the build satge?

It actually makes me angry that someone could cut in line ...
-
For those of us fretting over the new machines - can't we find something else to do - how about starting a thread to find the best itinerary for flashing the new machine around town (or the World?) in the 24 hours between it arriving and Joe Bloggs down the street getting it.
Incidentally PowerEdge - your sig shows you are going to upgrade the 2GB 667 MHz ram to 4GB 800 MHz. As far as I understood from other threads here these Santa Rosa machines won't run the memory any faster than 667 MHz.
Also, 32 bit Vista won't make use of more than around 3.1 GB of RAM (though I suspect VMWare may make the extra worthwhile). -
Nalada
Even if my 800MHz ram runs at 667.. No big loss. It does have a 800MHz FSB so I am thinking that it will run at 800. Also, I plan on putting Ubuntu on the system (64bit) with VMware Workstation 6.0 and XP / Vista installs on to the system. The wonders of being VCP certified and having an MSDN Premium acct.
-
Also. I am planning to add a Cisco ExpresCard GigE adapter to my system.

There are always people like this in the world and all you can do is think what egotistical aholes they are, or start a fight which I often think is not worth it. But it is up to the companies to make sure this does not happen!! Best Buy should not let cutting in line, and Dell should make sure people do not cut in line just because they are loud and obnoxious.
It's upto Dell to say, look there are thousands of people who also need their computers for work and school. We can not disappoint one of them and make them wait maybe another 3-4 days? If you can not wait we suggest you look at another system.
For me it's not the end of the world if I have to wait a couple of weeks, but this still makes me mad. -
Who knows, maybe the rep's just saying that to please the customer. I know my rep said 'oh, it'll only be like 10 days'. Yeah right. -
-
-
Ive been looking for this all day as a matter of fact. I read a Dell release sometime in the last few days which said there est deliv time was, in essence, their guarantee. If they dont follow it you have the right to cancel and, as well, they use this as a tool to ensure customer satisfaction.
I recall reading, as well, that if it goes passed that period without acknowledgement by reasoning from Dell, you will be compensated should you step up to the plate and address it.
Gonna bug me till I again find this... -
-
Re-read the post. Where's that statement from anyways? -
So wheres that come from??? Ive been searching "on or before"...
which would mean it is guaranteed BY that date. -
updated first post again
-
not sure if someone has mentioned it before, didn't read the whole n pages, so sorry if it's been already brought up. Seems like Dell's shipping dates vary depending on the EPP/affiliation you are using ordering the system. I am eligible to order it through my school and employer. Not only would ordering from through the school be cheaper, but also it would ship on 8/3, ie approximately 2-3 weeks from now, while if I order it through my employer discount it would ship on 8/28. 20 day difference, you know. Seems like they are giving priorities to some orders over others.

Ooooo 600th post.
EDIT: I wanted to ask - if you pay by credit card, when do you normally charge you? Do they just hold the funds on the card but not charge it until it ships? What's Dell's policy on this? -
-
I believe its when your system ships. I have a DFA or DFS account or whatever they call it. They haven't charged it yet... but its with-holding funds in there. -
Last time I bought from Dell they ran the authorization on the credit card and charged it only after the notebook was shipped, so basically the credit limit went down for a couple days without the actual charge showing up, then went up and the real charge showed up when the status changed to "shipped". -
Thanks for the explanation on the CC matter. -

I'm leaving for Canada on 8/7/2007 for a week. I kind of regret not changing the shipping option but when I called to try to change it they said I would have to cancel/reorder it and it would be delayed by 4+ weeks.... kind of stupid to speed up shipping if it would still come 3 weeks later. I just hope it comes on 8/6/2007 so I can play with it before I leave.
Edit:
Does anyone know about hardware compatibility with 4GB of memory for this chipset... I had read about m1210s reading 3.25GB of memory with 4GB installed even with 64bit operating systems installed due to the chipset. -
-
64bit OS will see all the memory. So can a 32bit OS with PAE extensions. -
pae extension don't help windows to see full 4gb, it's just not possible, the 32bit windows can't address more than 4gb and some of that address space has to be assigned to hardware... I don't see how PAE might help here
-
I believe XP 64 and XP pro should give you 4 gigs, I know Microsoft intentionally limited the memory on vista. It wasn't really foreseen in the early XP age, and they weren't as greedy then. Man, I shudder to think what things will be like 20 years from now.
-
Since we all going off-topic....
Windows XP and Vista x86 will never support more than 4gb of memory. It's how MS decided it's gonna be and there's nothing you can do about it. The PAE under WinXP does nothing except assist DEP. It will not allow addressing over 4gb of memory, period. It only works in certain editions of Windows 2000 and 2003. For further details, see this document: http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/system/platform/server/PAE/pae_os.mspx
This translates into the following: winXP and vista x86 will be able to address 4gb of memory but since a big chunk of that addressable space is assigned to hardware (videocards, for example), you won't be able to use that space for general purposes (running apps and os). So under those two, you will see anywhere from 3.1 to 3.5gb of memory, and PAE won't help you to get more than that... it's a limitation imposed by MS... -
Just double checked myself and here's the limit:
XP: up to 4 gigs (though I've heard XP don't use over 1 gigs very well)
XP 64: up to 128 gigs ram

32 Bit Vistas:
Vista Starter: 1 gig imposed limit (only avail in 32 bit)
Vista home Basic: 4
Vista home prem: 4
Vista business: 4
Vista enterprise: 4
Vista Ultimate: 4
64 bit
Vista home Basic: 8 gigs imposed limit
Vista home prem: 16 gigs imposed limit
Vista Business: 128+ gigs
Vista enterprise: 128+ gigs
Vista Ultimate: 128+ gigs

As for the 3.25 gig issue...this is more seen in Vista than XP but none the less is seen in XP and here's the big reasons why:
1) If you have a video card with memory, that counts against your available memory reported.
2) If you have shared memory it may or may not take away from your count.
This occurs when the bios controls the shared memory...my wife's laptop is a prime example. If the shared memory is OS or driver controlled...it should still count towards what is displayed as total memory. -
To get back on topic, lappy ordered on 26 Jun...still in pre-production...what should I go for when my laptop does not meet it's delivery date? I've got the hard drive, CPU, LCD, Video Card maxed, 2 gigs ram, Vista Home premium.
-
I ordered my inspiron 1520 on the 10th and it's still in the building stage. :/
-
Now how do you get those specific stages? I can now call the phone number and get pre-production...but that's the extent of it.
-
dont think its very off topic...but...
what cases/sleeves/backpacks is everyone going to buy for their laptop?
I am in the market for a sleeve and cant find too many decent ones for a 13 inch non mac, although im sure those will work. But arent macs thicker? I dont want to buy something if its not going to work correctly. -
1330 now available at costco.com.
Shipping:
The Preliminary Ship Date is 20-25 business days and represents the estimated time it takes to process your order and custom build your computer based on approved credit card purchase. The Preliminary Ship Date is not intended to provide you with an actual ship date. -
Hopefully it won't get to that. The estimated ship dates are far enough out that I'd hope they won't delay it even further. -
If you want something with a nicer fit though, look for Sony SZ sleeves. Those should be almost perfect for the M1330. -

What do you think of this configuration and price?
C2D 7100
LED screen
2 gb ram (1 Dimm)
120 gb hdd (5400 rpm)
8400 GS 128mb
Fingerprint reader
9 cell battery
3yr Return to depot warranty
For ~1850 USD Shipped, after taxes (note: that's converted from a Canadian price) -
Seems like an okay price - I got pretty much the same thing except with an additional 4 cell battery but only a 1 year warranty for $1830CAD including taxes, free shipping, etc. Then again, I don't think I got a good deal.

Canadian peeps might be different?

Well I just did the Dell Chat thing AGAIN, and I got the same guy that I have talked to about 3 times before and he always remembers me (he is actually the guy that had my Dell rep call me for my order). I told him that I was thinking of canceling because of the late ship date and he said he is going to have his manager call me...will let you guys know if anything comes of it.

Ok, just got off of the phone with the Dell manager. He said that due to the quarter's end, there are going to try to ship as many systems as possible out by the end of the month. He is expediting my order at no additional charge which is cool but I still think I might cancel my order if it don't ship in the next few weeks.
-
... FYI -- expediting = next day shipping
Post when XPS M1330 ordered and when/if shipped
