I'm still in pre-production, ordered 6/29. I got a great deal (almost 30% off) with the exact specs I wanted, but if it doesn't ship until end of August (or gets cancelled), I will seriously consider getting a SZ6 instead. Now that the SZ will have PC-5300 RAM and 7200rpm HD support, it is almost neck-and-neck with the M1330. I really like the fact the SZ has gigabit ethernet and a port replicator, not to mention the hybrid graphics. Too bad the SZ doesn't officially support Intel Turbo Memory or SSD's. :(

I was taught never to write dates on technical documents as MM/DD/YYYY but always as DD-Month-YYYY or something like that. Eliminates confusion if you are working with someone from another country. I sometimes forget and write dates on signed documents as DD/MM/YY which leads to total confusion when they think I said today was the 7th of the 13th month.

Wrong about the LED - SZ6 does have it... even previous gen SZ had led screen in the premium line.

An inspiring fusion of mobility, power and style, the VAIO® SZ Notebook delivers intelligent mobile design while placing a priority on usability and performance. This slim, lightweight PC measures a mere 1" thin17, with a superb 13.3" widescreen display11 with XBRITE™ LCD technology, long battery life7 and a generous, comfortable keyboard. And with its durable carbon fiber casing, the VAIO SZ Notebook is the portrait of sleek, contemporary style.

Notice it says LCD at leaset thats what im seeing dont know if its a separate option just going based on what m seeing.

A lot of people get confused by this: Whether or not it says LCD has nothing to do about whether the screen uses LED or CCFL backlighting. If you think of a stained glass window, the LCD is like the glass, except here it can change color. The LED and CCFL systems are like the sun shining through the glass, they just provide white light so that you can see what color the stained glass (LCD) is.

I dunno what particular web-page you were looking but check out this one: http://www.learningcenter.sony.us/Notebooks/SZSeries
Scroll down to "Xbrite" and "More Realistic Colors" sub-heading. I hope this will put at rest any doubts as to whether SZs offer LED-backlit LCD screens or not.

I just got off of the phone with customer service to confirm that my order was in the "build" stage since that is what it said when I checked the order status by phone even though online it said "in production". They told me that my order was "in production" but not in the build stage because of a couple of items were backordered or delayed. I asked her twice which ones but she wouldn't tell me. She then said that they have the items (made no sense). I asked her why the phone status was telling me that my order was in the build stage when it really wasn't and she said that there might be a problem with the phone updating order statuses. She gave me a case number and told me that her manager will be contacting me about the order status.

Has anyone's order status changed from "in production" to "build" online, and not just by checking over the phone? Has anyone actually talked to customer service about the status of their order and been confirmed that it is in the "build stage"?

Where are you checking? To see the "Build/testing/etc" phases, you have to have the order displayed on the My Account page... NOT the order status page itself.

I already had a support e-mail in place a week or so ago. And the guy I was e-mailing with just called me to let me know that my order has entered the "Build" stage. So I am pretty optimistic that it's not just a glitch.

It seems that the quality of the support people varies greatly, hopefully you just got a bad support person and you system really is in the build phase.

Just checked my status over the phone and its now in the build stage! Woo!
I ordered it on 7/13 so I am surprised it is already in the build stage.

Now my online status says in production, so has anyone found out which one is correct?

Did you get an email from Dell saying that your order has moved to the "build" stage? Or was it just via the phone?

Edit: I cancelled my order twice, due to the in ability to make up my mind on the specs I wanted to pay for and had my order delayed now until September 6th, 2007. :(

I ordered the same day you did, and today over the phone it says that mine is also in the build stage, even though customer service said it wasn't. My online status also says "in production", so maybe that was where the customer service rep was looking. She did sound like she didn't know what she was talking about, as I had to explain everything to her about 3x before she understood what I wanted to find out. Hopefully mine is actually in the build stage

I ordered my m1330 on the 28th and got my confirmation on the 30th. Still in "pre-production" for me. I got in on the original drake deal though. Did anyone who got their Drake deals actually go "in production-building" stage already?

For all of us who are waiting... here is a pretty good post on another forum.
    http://www.notebookforums.com/thread85821.html
(can i do that? just wanna give credit where credit is due and not hijack his post). Anyways, gives a pretty good explanation of the dell process and what steps your laptop goes through from order to delivery.

I am also anxiously waiting for my m1330, and have been combing this thread for the last couple weeks.

    LED display
    wi-fi n
    t7300
    webcam
    bluetooth
    fingerprint

    order 7/6 est delivery 8/26

    Build Stage.

I'm kind of thinking they bumped everybody to build stage to shut us all up lol, even though our parts are still backordered. Thats just a gut feeling, i hope i'm wrong.

you think if you call often enought o check your status the system flags you and they notice so they bump your order because you are obviously concerned about the ship date and they don't want you to cancel!? i think this is a good conspiracy theory, i am going to call 10 times a day instead of 4... lol

I think it's like... a launcher that gives a popup of other applications. It's literally that - it consolidates icons on the desktop into an application.

I agree. The icons on the desktop are big now (a very good thing). Whats the point of having another application loading at startup, robbing you of precious time?

Since this seems the case, its on my list of apps to uninstall. I'm still contemplating about the McAfee Anti-Virus though, as when I configured my laptop it says the first 15 months are free. Avast Home Edition or AVG Free Edition are both excellent replacements.

If you have tried both Avast and AVG, which one do you prefer? I'm liking Avast, as that has a plug-in for Outlook.
