Damn Good idea!!
I wouldnt mind spending a day fitting it. But the prob here is that even dell dont have all the parts (UK) for the screen!
-
The problem with assembling laptops stems in that there is no clear standard on motherboard layouts for this form factor. You could get barebones laptop cases and special power modules designed for portability, but those don't come cheap at all.
Edit: We're a bit off-topic from this thread, the name of it should be "m1330 General Discussion"! -
The good news is that when Sony launches the new SZ they will stock it in their stores. If I haven't received my m1330 by then, I'll just cancel and head down to Sony and pick up a new SZ.
-
I love this forum
You make a joke and everyone shoots you down. HEY That wouldn't be POSSIBLE! Here's why --
-
eh...i'll still stick with dell...even through all the crap...I can't get a discount on sony stuff anyways....epp through school FTW
-
Does Sony offer academic discounts?
-
Per my order # my system is in the testing stage but per my purchase ID # its in pre production?????????
-
All this time I've been hearing of EPP but don't know what the acronym stands for...
-
I got EPP too. Yeah it will cost me more to cancel and get a Sony, but I need a laptop for class. A nice discounted laptop is no good to me if I don't ever get it. Classes start mid August. My ship date is "8/1". If I don't have it by then I'm in bad shape.
-
thats weird...I checked my status over the phone last night w/ my PID # and said it was in build....when I checked w/ my order # it also said build...so I think its just a fluke but who knows
-
Congrats! Those specs are similar to mine...Hopefully I'll move to testing today as well
I bet in reality that "testing" actually takes about 5 minutes haha. -
Awesome! Congrats! I think the purchase ID # status gets behind a few days... :-( ... so don't worry much about that.
-
You would think it would only take 5 minutes for testing and 5 minutes for boxing but at their current rate it will probably be 5 days and 5 days!!!
-
Ha ha ha.... it might take a few hours actually... but I also think that the status system gets updated every morning until the shipping stage. Somebody please prove me wrong! Just a hunch tho...
-
Mine shipped! Oh wait no it didn't.. it got cancelled! Dell is going to die
-
Mine was in the build stage last night and at 9:00 A.M. central time today it had moved to testing. Hopefully at 9:00 A.M. tomorrow it will be in the boxing stage!
-
Groovy... people who ordered within the past week or so might see similar results next week. The Dell ESD is super-way-off. But everyone already knew that.
-
In that case... I hope mine goes straight to boxing when I wake up tomorrow
.
-
They can only test one laptop a day. It's an exhaustive test.
-
I believe we will see some deliveries next week. Hopefully one will be mine.
-
I bet it would be faster to just buy one from eBay, seem to be a few on the UK site ATM
-
I wonder if anyone actually went that route and has theirs now... LOL.
-
Ask Kickace. He was supposed to get his last friday from ebay
-
to my great disgust the australian release has been pushed back until the 30/7/07 , which means i have to wait until then to order so i can salary sacrifice.
-
eh...idk something about buying a new laptop from ebay just doesnt sound right
-
I work at an authorized Dell repair center. Testing for them probably involves them running their proprietary diagnostic software. That software tests pretty much every part with various different stress tests. I'd say on average it takes about 1-3 hours depending on how big your hard drive and memory is. And also upon how many iterations of each test they do. But any way I hope they ship soon. Does anyone know if they're going to hold up shipping them out of Asia just so they could make one big shipment? I hope not because that will take even longer.
-
i hope they dont do that either....would be kind of pointless too imo
-
Yeah I'd assume they can load up the 747 with Inspirons and Vostro's too. As well as desktops...
-
Take the LOL off... not funny (lol)
Oh dear, we must all be so sad to sit here and wait for our laptops to arrive... -
yeah...would be kinda cool to open up that plane though... full of 1330's....
-
I'm at work and I have literally nothing to do....and ive already called the status # twice, haha
-
watch out, that status number is premium rate! well in the UK it is
-
i wish i was the First Officer on that B747
-
eh...I think its free here in the states....but we are all paying too much for gas so it doesnt matter lol
-
I'm pretty sure it's free... otherwise I'd rack up a HUGE bill
-
It would suck if your system failed a test...
:-( -
Yer just checked,
Free for usa, premium rate for uk
ooh and whats that bout your fuel!!! - £1 per litre here thats $2 per litre about $10 a gallon guys lol -
I wouldn't tell someone from the UK you are paying too much for gas. Gas in the UK averages $5.56 US dollars a gallon now.
-
What's the Drake Deal that everyone talks about? I have never heard of that before?
-
Lets not start this whole discussion again (its pretty ugly). Try searching for it
.
-
Troll alert!
-
if you dont know where the drake deal originated from....you are over-paying for alot of things, haha...SD FTMFW!!!!
-
haha nah, i was just bored...it really didnt stir up anything anyways
-
... hence we need our m1330's ...
-
My PID and Order # keep giving me different order status.
The PID says my order has been canceled while the Order# says it is in the build stage. -
What happens when you enter your PID online and your order number online?
-
There are two orders under my PID, one is the M1330, and I do have canceled the other one, which is the Computrace LoJack (The order description is 'Absolute - Computrace LoJack for Laptops 3 Year').
PID Online:
M1330 - In production
LoJack - Canceled
M1330 Order # Online: In production
(All correct)
But when I call with the PID, it says both M1330 and LoJack canceled. -
I'm sure it's all ok... but u can call/chat/email and see if its okay. Doesn't hurt to ask...
-
I had the same thing happen to me. All I actually cancelled was the printer but my PID said my laptop order was cancelled too when I entered it over the phone. I called my Dell rep and was reassured the laptop order was fine. Seems to be true as I entered testing stage this morning. Use your order number not the PID.
-
Looks like you're the only one on this forum to enter into the testing stage today. Lucky!
Post when XPS M1330 ordered and when/if shipped
