20th??? Who's got that ship date? For the base model, yes?
-
-
This is pretty much the owners thread already!
I even made a sig.
-
Correction.... FUTURE owners...
-
BTW... I am totally jealous of your sig....
-
I just wanna slap that penguin silly...
-
How can you say such a thing about a penguin! They're like the Ghandis of nature!
-
I believe that user is from the UK. There is also another future owner from Singapore who has a estimated delivery date of July 17th and he did order the LED lit display. I am guessing that it is because SG is just south of Malaysia, so it takes less time to ship. Also, I remember that right before the Inspiron 9300 was shipped a few years ago, a member from Singapore had the machine 5 days before the US users. If that is the case, the early order could start arriving in the US starting on July 20th. That's only my guess though.
-
You are making Mr. Flibble very angry.
-
Do they really assemble the systems overseas them ship them whole? That seems like it would be a real waste of time. Surly it would be better to assemble and ship them from the U.S for U.S customers? And just import the parts?
-
I'm gonna keep slapping the penguin until I get my hands on the m1330...
-
Boyyyyy to answer that question it would take a LOT of work. For one, I'm VERY sure the minimum wage overseas is much cheaper than here, thus they build the systems cheaper. Two has something to do with the US's GNP... or their economic worth... having the product made cheaper and sold for a higher price increases it quite a bit and increases overall trade and relations with these oversea manufacturers.... IT's quite complex... everyone benefits except the consumers! Yayy!!
-
Unfortunately, what you suggested does not make sense either because the labor cost to assemble the machines is much cheaper in Malaysia. Almost all of the Dell notebooks sold in the US are assembled in Penang, Malaysia. They are shipped daily in crates to Nashville, TN via a chartered 747 from a Taiwanese carrier. It you live around Nashville, that is the only 747 that ever lands in that airport. Once it gets to Nashville, it is boxed and the charger, software and whatever else you order is added before being released to the local UPS, Fedex or DHL carrier. Some shipping companies might send it in bulk to the nearest shipping hub before tracking info starts appearing.
-
I was monitoring watching this thread for awhile and decided to get myself a m1330. LOL.
I was just wondering though...
... what happened to the detailed order status descriptions that they used to do with products that are "in-production". When I ordered my 8300 four years ago, they used to provide us with the date when it would enter into the Knitting stage, etc. When did this change? -
I have absolutely no idea... but that woulda been awesome! I would know what's taking them so gosh darn long...
-
I think they removed the graphical part of the build stages sometime last year. However, if you add your order information to your Dell account, it should still show those individual stages on the My Account Homepage. The regular order status page just has "In-Production" in place of the individual build stages.
-
I think those stages went like this:
1. Pre-production
2. Kitting
3. Building
4. Testing
5. Boxing (which literally means transporting from Malaysia to Nashville)
6. Order shipped
For a newly released laptop, it usually stays in the Pre-production stage for a while, but then everything moves pretty fast after that. -
I ordered through EPP so I can't see... darn.
.. but I'm guessing that everyone is still in Pre-production... LOL. -
What exactly is knitting?
-
It is actually Kitting...the stage where all the parts are pooled together into a tray. Once all the parts are there, it moves on to the build stage where someone manually snaps and screws all the parts together.
-
Ohh... kewl... I guess... LOL. Wellll I'm gonna go to sleep now... So I can be one day closer to my XPS. See you in the mornin!
-
I spoke to a rep today just to confirm where my notebook will be shipping from and they said that it ships from Limerick in Ireland where it is built. It seems like people in the UK may avoid the long wait for their notebook.
-
Ordered mine this morning, quoted to be with me for 20th of this month. Which isn't too bad looking at the wait times some people are being quoted in the US.
Another point, I assume I can upgrade the CPU at a later date? (have a 1.8 for now, but would like to chuck in one of the beefier ones post christmas or something) -
i dont think cpu is upgradable in this laptop
-
i wish they can come up with a "build-it-yourself" configuration so they can just send the parts and let the consumers build them.
anyway, my drake order has been moved from 07/29 to 08/23 and my other one (florida) is still at 8/18. i think it's a ridiculously conservative estimate and their motivation is to convince buyers to cancel their order since this is supposed to be premier-membership only. it's also possiblke that they didn't anticipate this much order to come in and they ran out of stock, especially on the LED screen. $800 discount (my config) is not something they offer for an XPS. -
You can with the 1210, so I don't see why you couldn't with this

Just wondering if someone can give a solid yay or nay
-
yes its upgradable, it will be ugradable all the way to the xtreme processors coming out later this year. they will have the same socket and same tdp so there should be no problem
however, when the new chipset comes out with bearlake and the 45nm cpus, those will not be able to go into this laptop -
From the picture shown in the link below, I think the CPU is upgradable via removal of 5 screws.

Ehh... maybe I'll pay a pro to upgrade it for me... I'm petrified of the insides of a laptop. Desktops are okay... but laptops are a certain no-go for me. Where would you buy laptop components anyway? I can never seem to find the laptop versions of Core 2 Duo processors and even the hard drives...
-
in that case, i wish the video card is upgradable too..

I'm in UK. I also ordered today and and was quoted delivery on 20th (with the verbal hint that it might be a few days earlier).
In fact I was about to order a Rizeon S37E on the assumption that the wait for an M1330 would be at least a month.
John -
I envy you.... I ordered 6/28 and I won't be getting mine until 8/17.... I don't understand that logic at all. I'm sure the whole being built in Ireland thing helps your time quite a bit... but I wait a month and a half and you wait 3 weeks? I'm gonna sue Dell for geographical discrimination....
-
Which thread did you find this picture?
-
Try it and Dell will probably argue that you are geographically misplaced to begin with
-
But that statement would add to my case! Because me being geographically misplaced is like saying I'm the wrong race... I CANT LOSE THIS ONE!
-
I was chatting with a Dell rep today (checking the order cause I thought I did something stupid) and she kindly upgraded my order from ground to next day shipping. That was nice of her!
My Info
Order Date: 7/1/2007
Est. Ship Date: 8/17/2007 -
Whoaaa, how did you do that?!!? OMG Tell tell tell!!!
-
easy there Sprintguy
-
I ordered on the 27th on June and got an estimated delivery of 13th of August. A dell rep told me today that the delays are due to a Global Class Shortage (whatever that means) of webcams....
-
I can get the thing 2-4 days earlier!!! HOW CAN I TAKE IT EASY!?! I WANT THE THING!
-
I just asked about my order status and she upgraded my shipping. Kinda threw me off!
I got a nice Chat Rep though. I've used it before and had a terrible guy. So it depends on who you talk to. -
All I have to do is CHAT? Just ask how my order is doing and they'll upgrade my shipping? We'll see how this works out?
-
Interesting. I don't believe that so much though cause I got mine without a webcam and still have a shipping date of August 17th.

07/03/2007 09:49:19AM Agent (**): "I see that the order is in the production stage, The estimated ship date is 08/17/2007."
07/03/2007 09:49:21AM Agent (**): "The estimated ship date is just a conservative ship date for the order and it is quite possible that the order ships before estimated date."
07/03/2007 09:49:32AM Agent (**): "I have made an exception in your case as you have contacted us today and upgraded the shipping method to Next Day, free of charge for you, so as soon as the order gets shipped out, it will be delivered the Next Business Day." -
blahdude: did you order your m1330 through EPP?
-
Yes I did. Does it matter?
-
Well I was on the chat and the rep said, in order to make any modifications to me order, I would have to call the EPP number...
Did you click on the sales chat or customer service chat?
-
Dude that changed it to next day! AWESOME!
-
Strangeeeeeeeeeee..... Customer Service Chat
-
Blahdude... I owe you big! Woooo!!! Now I'm going to call the manufacturer to see what is taking my Dell so long and possibly change that component!
-
LOL... Good luck! Let us know if you find out anything ....
