That was the initial review... if you read on.. .there is SOME benefit... but enabling it is a pain in the BUTT (7 reboots with 10 minute intervals?!?!) and don't touch this and that. INSANE!

Well, I called up Dell today to inquire about my M1330 and apparently it should ship sometime next week. I guess that's an improvement on my previous estimate of August 22nd...

Then I'm going to open a can of whoop-... I'll give them the benefit of the doubt at this point, but no one messes with Chuckie. ;)

Apple2PC actually stirred up a thought within me when he canceled his order for 30 minutes and was considering a Thinkpad. I can get a T61 with a T7300, 1GB RAM (single DIMM, so easy to add another), 120GB HD, NVS 140M, 1440x900 14.1" display, 4965n, bluetooth, and fingerprint reader, a 6 cell battery and 3 year warranty for $1399CAD... That would be a solid $250 cheaper than the M1330, with a longer warranty and faster processor... I'm actually considering it.

    Yeah but that's expected.

It takes several boots before Windows can figure out which are the best files to cache in Ready Drive. In real life you do not have to re boot your computer 10 times. Just use it as normal and eventually you will start to see the benifits.

Also if you do not play with the drivers after install you should be fine. I am sure Intel will fix the driver bugs soon too.

    Is anyone getting an m1330?

Seems odd that those who shipped on Friday did not get thiers today.

Also odd that only 3 or 4 people on this forum got shipped. If only 1% of the shipping m1330s were to members here that would have 300 on a plane. Sounds low to me.

Consider if we were 10% only 30 laptops got shipped.

    Either way its scary.

Hey everyone... I have some bad news (or it could be good news depending on how you look at it). :(

I have decided to cancel  my XPS m1330 in favor of the MacBook Pro, which comes very close to the same price point and features that I originally configured the m1330. In fact, the MacBook Pro I'm getting has a faster processor in it right off the bat, and a 15.4 inch screen.

On the bright side, my brother is still waiting in line to get his XPS m1330. His is scheduled for shipment sometime in early August (the 8th to be exact).

I'm prepared to be flamed for defecting  . But, with all the shananigans about the shipping fiasco, and with the question about the screens acting fuzzy on the 1520's, it is not boding well for Dell on attracting a new customer such as myself.

What is really funny though is that when I chatted with the Dell CSR, he did not even offer to try to expedite my order or anything of the sort to try to keep my order alive. That tells me that the shipping dates are really out of whack, and that Dell just doesn't care anymore.

Now I gotta change my siggy to reflect the recent change of events...

Awwww.... it's sad to see one of the comrades go. :(

To be honest, if it weren't for the M1330's size that I'm after, I'd have gone with the MBP as well (or perhaps the T61). But in the end, I wanted something much smaller than the 15.4" I had before so the M1330/SZ/T61 were the only ones I was strongly considering.

I will keep a tab on this thread though, as I'm looking out for what happens to my brothers order for the XPS m1330. He ordered his July 8th, and his ESD is on August 8th. Gotta protect your family.

EDIT: LOL, Apple2PC, looks like I'll be going PC2Apple. I will be tripple booting between Mac OSX (either Tiger or Leopard, depends on what it comes with), Windows XP Pro, and Windows Vista Ultimate. So really, I'm still a PC guy.

Hrmmm... just for fun, I tried pricing out the laptop I purchased and it's a good $80 cheaper now...

I wonder should I go and ask for the difference? I'm somewhat scared that they're just going to make me re-order, which I definitely don't want as the 4 cell + 9 cell battery combo is no longer there and I don't want to get my ship date pushed out into September. Plus I had a 15% mystery coupon applied to it, so I'm not sure if they could even keep that on it.

    Any thoughts?

So I am back. I just spent 3 days at Lake Havasu and I tried to not check my order status. I checked Sunday night and it said I was still in the Build stage :(. Today I am trying to check and every time I enter my order number it says it will beep twice and transfers me to a rep?! I do not have the time to wait on hold. Also when I called 1.5 weeks ago I was told my the rep that I would be contacted by the 23rd if my order had not yet shipped but alas no phone calls or emails....

A little not a lot. And it depends a lot on how you use your computer. Basically it should help when booting up, and loading large applications.

Also, I am home now and opened my package. It was a lot smaller than I expected. Everything got to me from Computer Brain just fine.

Finally got through to order status and mine is also still in the Build Stage.

So I decided to send a very pleasant e-mail to the Dell rep I spoke to a couple of weeks ago asking what the hold up is. I did not threaten anything, I just asked if he could check on the status and see why it's been building for 6 business days. :p

Basically I just want them to confirm again that my system will ship on 8/1/07 and if it still does not ship by then then I want something cool in return... Like money back, or a free monitor something like that. ;P

Anyone understand this now? Going through the configurator and this pops up:

Your Primary Battery selection does not support your Video Card selection. Please make changes to one of these selections.

I have the 4cell + 9cell package and it claims my primary battery is not compatible with my videocard (8400m). Should I push to get a 6cell instead? Why is the 4cell not compatible?

Sorry one more separate post. :p

A note on Turbo Memory... it is only useful in Vista. No other operating system currently takes advantage of it.

Linux see the turbo memory, and you can write to it as a kind of internal flash drive, but no smart file cacheting yet.

For Linux I would love it to just cache boot files there or something so all it does is decrease boot time.
