I just got an interesting e-mail.

I ordered several things at the same time with my M1330. Every item has a long delay on it (from Aug 1st to Aug 29th) so I sent an e-mail complaining.

The guy said the normal stuff about the laptop and the monitor. We have to get parts from vendors yada-yada-yada. But on the bag he said the following:

Obviously my bag does not have a camera in it, so was he talking about the LCD display with the camera? I wonder. It was probably just a mistake, but you never know.

I got $200 off because I have lots of items and they are all running late so I am content now. I think I might call dell and upgrade my processor I wonder how long that will add to my ship time. :p

Maybe you should ask him to claify? I'm pretty confused myself.

The email says Aug 23 :( When I told him this, he seemed confident he could expedite it. But your explanation makes a lot more sense.

I feel like I ruined your day now lol, sorry. On the bright side, Dell usually has long estimates and we will likely get them before then (mine is Aug 22).

I wish I had better tidings, but if it were a few people getting the long lead times, I'd chalk it up to a delay due to a specific configuration or component, but since it seems like everyone's getting ship dates of around the same time, I think it's an overall manufacturing delay/demand.

The least the dates aren't going up much anymore. They used to be going up daily. Now if you ordered one past July 2nd, your ship date is pretty much the same as everyone elses.

Quick question----- for the people that got a free upgrade to next day shipping, did it show up on your order status? It still says 3-5 day shipping on mine.

I just chatted with a dell rep and complained about the ship date and whatnot and they sent me an email saying I put a request to have your order expedited and upgraded you to next day shipping free of cost.

I'm beginning to think this whole "expedited" deal is just a hoax Dell agents tell upset customers to get them off the phone. I really doubt it speeds up the process of getting your notebook.

As for free overnight shipping, that would ne a nice upgrade. :)

My estimated delivery date is 18 July 2007, order processed on 2nd July 2007. Mind you we pay a premium for this stuff in Asia/Pacific region and the demand is probably not as strong as it would be in US and Europe/UK.

I also got the overnight shipping upgrade and it does show on the order status page. I simply sent them an email asking for status on my order because I was scared it didnt go through properly they said everything was fine and they even upgraded my shipping free of charge the guy replied.

I got a quick response about the lack of change on the order status. Apparently the representative didn't change it in the chat!!! The customer rep in the email said that he would change it and should be reflected by tomorrow.

Soooooooo... if you don't have your shipping changed, follow up on it!!!

    Ordered today via phone (7/5/07)

    Will ship on 8/22

I spoke to the sales rep and he said that the final testing on the M1330 won't even be completed until next week, then AFTER that they''ll start building and shipping and so it could be sooner or later. It's just they have to quote the manufacturing department's lead time until they actually know how production will go.

Question - when the build/ship time is 6 weeks out - when is your credit card charged?

The funds are "held" on your credit card immediately, and the card is charged when it's shipped.

It's possible he didn't order the LED. There are big delays on those... or maybe he's just not in North America.

My previous dealings with Dell in New Zealand have been very fast. I ordered a 24" 2405FPW a while back and it was on my doorstep within 3 days

So it wouldn't surpise me if it gets here sometime late next week, will be sure to post up pics and my thoughts if it does.

These are almost arbitrary shipping dates. I would wait for things to actually ship to see if they're shipping from certain places sooner.

the drake, fsu, etc. deals made them push back the shipping dates. i don't think they anticipated this much orders since XPS normally only caters to high-end users with enough dough in their pockets. now, potential Inspiron buyers and even those not even thinking of upgrading (like me) bought in.

The UK products are assembled in Ireland and shipped from there. For us in the U.S. it would seem our systems are assembled overseas and then have to be shipped into the U.S. and ship out to us from there. So I would say that adds a good few days to the build.

Also if the overseas plant makes systems for other countries aswell then that will delay us even more.

I guess the U.K. has much better import taxation and laws so it makes it more economical for Dell to build inside the U.K. It would be nice if America caught on and did the same. :p

    OMG Hold the phone!

I just went to Dells website to look for Docking stuff and something is going on.

On the XPS buy page it says "Please call dell for the latest pricing" in bold red type (the original pricing is back now). So I went on to configure a new system and the Ship date has gone down to 8/6/2007!!

Buuuuut if you add the LED screen with or without Camera then your ship date jumps to 8/23/07!!

So it would seem they have a shortage of LED screens. Probably because most people ordering a XPS want the LED screen! :p Anyway, I really hope it is not a manufacturing problem with the LED screens, and they just misjudged demand for the initial release.

Just got a reply from a different representative than I had talked to before and they said that the shipping upgrade went through, but I'm not sure, as it still says 3-5 day shipping on my order status.

What should I do? Will it change later?

Mine was cancelled which I took a risk by changing the screen from LCD to LED which "alerted" the superiors apparently. See, this is what the guy who posted "illegal military" thread doesn't get...I was mentally prepared for it to be cancelled even if I had not altered the order. It's a numbers game - hopefully, some of you will get yours at the discounted price. The hunt continues for me...
