It's just speculation that there might be a delay for the white topped models - not a proven fact. I was combining the fact that at review time (back in pre-history) the white ones didn't seem to be available or there was some mention of the finish not having the same lustre as the final ones would have... with the other fact that some people have been told their machines are waiting for casings. As far as I can tell the two delivered today were black and some of those said to be in shipping are red... I haven't seen any confirmed white one in shipping.

Look at the dark blue bar below the thread listing.
    Click on User CP.
    It is under there.

On the top bar, there should be a link called "User CP". Click on that and click Edit Signature on the left hand side. There you can create your own sig.

If you can't configure it that doesn't mean it sucks... At least if something goes wrong you're pretty sure that after some googling you'll find a solution, while on a zindows the only solution is reinstalling...

    It can be frustrating though...

... after typing 'make this' and 'make that' a billion times, it gets kinda old. I'm a proud linux junkie now though...

    zindows?

And what you said makes absolutely no sense. With such a huge install base, finding answers to problems on Windows is very easy. Googling will have a much higher success rate if you're looking for help with Windows or Windows software than for anything Linux.

i called today to ask about the progress of my order and they said that the 9 cell battery and the DVD drive were backordered. The woman said if I didn't want to wait, I could change the battery and DVD drive?!?! Apparently she didn't know that the only option was a DVD DRIVE, so after I told her she was like "oh right well...yeah". What is wrong with these people. After I told her this, I could tell she was obviously irritated with me. It's not my fault she has no clue what she's talking about

Don't worry... someone told me that the chasis was backordered and told me to reorder with the available parts. I'm like uhhhhhh...... WHAT?!?! How does that make any sense?

off topic now, but that is spoken like someone without a lot of experience actually searching for answers on both systems. i find answers to my questions concerning linux at least as easy, if not easier, than with windows, despite the (unfortunate) disparity in numbers of users. true believers in linux expect some difficulties and are willing to work through them, understanding the advantages for _everyone_ in promoting open-source software. just ask bill gates where he "stole" the ms-dos code from.

Glad to be here...sort of. I think I'd rather be one of the few and the proud -
ones that actually have this laptop in their hands.
Congrats to you Tileman and Cliegal. Kind of like being an Apollo astronaut I would think.

I really don't agree, my wife uses zindowz and recently we had problems with here wireless card (btw on here linux partition it just worked fine), and when you google the only solution you find is remove the driver and install again, reboot, usual zindowz stuff. As if when your car is broken you just restart it...

it is really screwy. if you can't wait like me, or are fed up with dell's inability to give accurate estimates, the sony sz6 or even the macbook seem to be popular replacements.

cliegal, how ya liking your xps? have ya posted to this forum with it?

Well the SZ6 can't be sold yet through Sony so hence, isn't available right now and we don't know lead times or I would cancel.

Second, yes she did, quite a few pages back.

You realise it is spelled "Windows", right? How is "zindowz" even an insult? You speak like a Linux fan who hasn't used Windows since version 3.11. Bill Gates bought the rights to MS-DOS and used it to launch a highly successful company. Get over it. Open-source software is great in theory but denying the quality of Microsoft products like Windows and Office is foolish.
