BTW With the recent news that Dell is supporting Wireless USB do you think they will have a simple internal USB adapter like the current Bluetooth adapter that we could upgrade after market?

Also does the M1330 have just the one internal USB port or could we do bluetooth and wireless USB at the same time?

It would be so cool to just bring my laptop into my room and have the external hard drive just pop up, and the printer start printing documents I have spooled. I just got a chubby.

Maybe... maybe not. I personally don't think that there will be a simple internal USB adapter that we could simply install for our m1330's (Dell engineers will be more focused on other things like newer computer models). It's technically possible tho...

as for your second question.. i'm not sure what you mean by "does the M1330 have just one internal USB port". However, you can do bluetooth and wireless USB at the same time (it looks almost exactly like you are connecting to a Wifi network... with the listing of the devices available and automatically connecting to them if they were "paired" before).

It's like USB + Bluetooth + Wifi hybrid.

Well the Bluetooth adapter just plugs into an internal USB port under the screen. So I am thinking if Dell makes a Wireless USB adapter it will be very similar to the bluetooth adapter.

So we could just replace the bluetooth adapter with a bluetooth+wireless USB adapter.

    Just like that?

screw wireless USB anyway, have you guys seen some of the numbers from the various (although few) devices currently available and coming out in the near future? Most end up transfering and recieving at 1mbps! Even a rich document you are printing could take several seconds to transfer so imagine anything else. I don't think wireless USB willt ake off much, by the time they iron out the kinks and reach even BT 2.0 speeds they will be working out wireless e.sata or wwan for the home.

One mini PCIe slot is empty... it could be used, if there's an adapter available...

Anyway, any new deliveries over the night?

It could "fit" there... but... I don't think they will make one to fit there for our m1330's. WirelessUSB technology is still far out though. It's still not practical to use it for every-day use. Just wait a few more years and get it on your next laptop! By then, they should have a second gen version that is MUCH better and the technology should be a bit more wide-spread.

Dell's supposed to get it cleared and deliver it to me... If it were up to me, I would have had it cleared by now...

Besides, the Asus V1s and F8Sv are beckoning....

First off, do not cancel the m1330 blindly. Making rash decisions is the worst thing you could do. If you do not have an urgent need to get a laptop before September, then wait it out. If your like lots of people on this thread who start their fall semester at school, then maybe that will be an argument to switching to something else. Another option you could do is change the shipping address to get the laptop to your dorm or apartment at your school.

The problem is that if you choose the latter option, where you change the shipping address to your dorm or apartment at your school, it means you will have to find time to customize it the way you want while in school. That can be hectic... if you have lots of things to customize.

Now, getting the MacBook Pro will require somewhere between 13 to 17 days for shipment (thats the tentative wait time for my MBP). Some people on the Apple thread had gotten it much sooner, as in 3 days after ordering sooner, but it is definitely a lot earlier than Dell's "estimates".

The m1330 has the makings of being a stellar ultraportable, so don't get me wrong that I'm ditching it for something else. Its just Dell's production system that forced the issue.

And finally, for your question about dual booting with Vista or XP, you can consider using the Parallels application to run it inside of Mac OSX. Keep in mind you'll need either the Business, Ultimate, or Enterprise of Vista to do this option. Windows XP is supported (both Home and Pro). The regular way of dual booting is not subject to that restriction however. Parallels costs about $80, so keep that in mind as well if you are price concious.

Now I'm off to bed, as its 2:18 AM here.

Well I'm already in summer school and the semester starts soon, so that's not an issue. My xps is due 8/22. I did mainly want it because it was small, but 15 in isn't bad either. idk

If you run it in parallel, do applications and processors run slower because it has to run through the MacOS? Or will it have the same speed as BootCamp?

Sounds like virtualization technology... but I'm not sure. If it is, it should be slower. How slow depends on how good the virtualization is.

OK guys. I have cancelled my order for the M1330. Instead I bought a macbook pro.

Dell is outrageous and I can't stand them anymore.

    I ordered my m1330 on 6/30.

    1st shipping date: 7/19
    2nd shipping date: 7/23
    3rd shipping date 7/27
    4th Shipping date 7/30

I called them up today and they said there are 4 part shortages for my notebook and that the last of the 4 parts would only come on 8/10.

I felt it was outrageous to wait 1.5 months for a laptops. Therefore I cancelled it.

Thank you dell for making me wait 20+ days for nothing.

for one, my date keeps getting pushed back for the m1330. It's a bit ridiculous now.

If dual booting mac and xp or vista works as good as people say, then I have the best of both worlds.

I am heavy into audio recording and most pros use macs because of stability. All my audio equipment has full mac support including firewire 800 which windows doesn't have.

I can switch to windows for cad and such since i'm an engineer.

I also enjoy gaming, but I have a monster rig for home.

My main concern is that I am a former windows fanboy but I think I'm willing to give Mac a try.

    I also get student discount.

    IDK wat to do.

I'm an Engineer (Comp & Elect) but I used to HATE Macs. It took me 3 YEARS to get used to them They so simplistic that its annoying. If you aren't used to Mac's, then don't buy one just yet. Get familiar with the interface... know how to work programs... optimize the OS... etc (either by using Macs @ the computer labs or using your friends macs). I know if I just bought a Mac when I first started using it, I would've HATED myself. After three years, I can finally own a Mac with confidence, but I haven't stepped over that line just yet (the m1330 is making me think about it really hard).

Oh... and FYI ... you can technically run the OSX (or whatever it is now) on an your Windows machine too! (its kinda illegal tho)

join the club i'm an Electrical/Computer Engineer also blahdude. So is there any legitimate cad software for mac. Like you, from my 2 hours of fiddling with Macs, i can't stand the ease of use(lol, that sounds stupid). It's almost too dumbed down. However, I like the thought of a small powerful package in the m1330 for cad on the go.

I'm giving Dell till the end of the week otherwise I'm ordering a MBP.

One thing that is not being updated is the online tracking status... it is 17:20 here in Beijing on the 25th and according to the online status:
    (a) I am in Build stage (since 11th)
    (b) The estimated delivery date is (was) today!

I had placed my faith in the fact that as the EDD hadn't changed since the 19th, the online tracking wasn't working, and so the lack of progress towards the shipping didn't mean that the EDD would be missed.

[Now what really scares me is the Ayi didn't seem to let in one guy who buzzed the intercom - I think I primed her via Babelfish to expect the new computer... she seemed to tell me he was saying something about lights (DianDeng) instead of computer (Dianzi) - why did my wife bugger off to Tibet!]

I'm in the same boat... With 6 days left to ship, I'm still in pre-production (though the rep says it's in production).

As I've said before, I'd be happier if Dell told me an actual ship date with plenty of notice rather than leaving it till 48 hours before my ship date and THEN pushing it back or whatever.

I rang up on monday and a senior sales associate assured me i'll be getting it on the 31st - I can say is they'd better not be pulling the wool over my eyes...

Why would you do that? Is 1 day that important to you? Is this some sort of show of principles? I'm sure Dell doesn't care. They'll change the shipping label and ship it to someone else...

I've just asked my Dell rep what was happening with this preproduction stage, and here is his reply:
As you know, the production + delivery of this notebook is very long (as written in you confirmation of the order). There is a extra waiting time. During this time, the notebook is always in the pre-producion status.
Basically I understand this as pre-production means they do nothing...

I've seen both today at the Sony store off base here...they're really not that impressive. Then again, they were all in Japanese so I couldn't tell if they had gddr2 or gddr3 on them. The antennas are also rather poor as well as the plastic palmrests. At least they're not white :)

Pre-production is where they do nothing...you're just waiting in queue as others pass you by. It should go through the kitting, build, testing, boxing, and eventually shipped. If you had an order on, say, the 26th, I'd complain as I am.

I've passed my order on the 9th of July so I guess it's still reasonable. But the problem is that the 15th of August I go away, the guy promised I'll get it the 10th, bu since the building stage didn't start I don't know if I can believe him. What do you think?

I'd talk to someone and make sure they can expedite the order. BTW, I'm still delayed because of the world shortage of blue ink to paint "dell" on their boxes, and the shortage of boxing tape, and the shortage of Post Office workers.

Well, I'd point out the obvious fact that neither of the two aforementioned laptops can compare in size to the M1330/SZ6.

In addition, as far as I know, neither of those laptops are available yet either. It's not like you're going to get it any sooner.

But if waiting an extra couple days is too much, then by all means.

I have no idea but I assume mine is still in the build stage...working on 9 days and counting. I refuse to check and when I finally do on Friday, I will make my decision on what to do.

We all have this "itch" to want to check on our orders every chance we get. I have that itch too, with the wait for the MBP. If you scratch it, it will come back stronger. Resist! Resist with all your might!
