Ordered 7/1 Estimate Ship Date 8/17
T7300, 1GB of Ram (ordering more on newegg for cheaper), LED screen, Tuxedo Black, Fingerprint reader, bluetooth, 120GB HD, 45 Day shipping (nice added feature), 8400M GS, 6/9 cell battery, 3 year warranty with accidental damage coverage, other stuff.
= $1,785.59 with tax and shipping. -
I ordered the same day (got the same est. shipping date) and almost the same config (I got 2 GB of RAM). -
So I talked to Dell over the phone today for about 20 minutes and got my order "expedited" to next day shipping...nothing too extrordinary.
What caught me off-guard was the fact that the represenative confirmed that my order was now delayed due to the processor I chose (T7300). I'm taking this with a grain of salt... but also hoping that this means they've caught up on LED screens and will start building soon.
Just figured I'd share the news and see if anyone else has heard anything from their own personal order delay reasons. -
How can they be short on processors, that's just stupid.
Like I said before one sales rep said my laptop bag was held up due to a shortage of cameras!.
Although, I guess there is a slim possibility. Because it seems like everyone and their cat ordered the 2GHz 4MB processor. Except for me anyway.Because the 1.8Ghz processor is not worth the extra money for 300Mhz, and the top of the line is too expensive. So it's either the 1.5 or the 2.

I know what you mean Code! Hopefully Dell handles all departments of computers differently (XPS, Inspiron, Latitude) and have to keep up stock in each department!
I think I may just be making things up to keep my enthusiasm though! -
Order Date: 6/29/07.
Est. Ship Date: 8/3/07
I guess compared to some other dates listed I'm moderately happy with the expected ship date! -
I was just searching engadget for another thread, and I found this story:
http://www.engadget.com/2007/06/22/dells-m1330-up-for-retail-july-10/
Back when I first read that I assumed "insider" was wrong, but maybe he did know something after all. Seeing as some users in China and UK are starting to see progress maybe the 10th is the date when they start moving units out. That would be awesome.
Also guys to put things in perspective, I ordered my system on June 28th and it has only been 6 business days since then.I was shocked because it seems like I have been waiting for weeks.
-
Ha yea, I know what you mean. My order was placed June 28th and it feels like it has already been a month. That's what checking order status so many times per day does. My expected shipment date isnt until 8/23.
-
Order date 7/8, ship date 8/28. I would really like to have this by mid august however, I do regret not ordering earlier, but in retrospect I didn't really wait all that long to order (1.5 weeks from release?), but the shipping estimates jumping most likely because of the Drake deal made me pull the trigger so I could hopefully get it by mid August.
The long ship date gives me a chance to look at other models coming out however, so I'll be looking closely at Asus, HP, and Lenovo over the next month or so to see what new models become available and may end up cancelling the order. -
Ordered 3rd July, due 20th July (UK)
Spec: T7300, 2GB RAM, LED Screen, Crimson Red, 200GB HDD, NextGen Wireless.
Next 2 weeks are going to drag! -
howcome UK recieve their lappie so early , i have to wait till aug 27 in Canada omg
-
The 10th is tomorrow Code...
I'd like to thank you for pointing that out. I wonder how slowly today will pass for me? -

My M1330 is on exactly the same schedule. My Dell sales rep says it is in production although the Order Status still says pre-production.

I think Dell has taken the build-to-order concept a tad too serious.
The new process is that Dell probably procures the internal parts from manufacturers after a customer orders, builds and then ships to streamline the process. -

PS. I am not sure if this helps but Dell cannot provide Dell Care service in Florida. If someone living in Florida (or has a friend/family member living in Florida) was interested in the 12% Dell Care discount, they could select Dell Care and Dell will later back out the cost of Dell Care. This happened with my order.

What's wrong with the 1.8GHz processor? -
Prolly too slow for his tastes
-
The biggest advantage of moving up from the T7100 (1.8GHz) to the T7300 (2.0GHz) is the increase in cache size from 2MB to 4MB, which could make a big difference depending on the types of applications you run.
-
If I'm not playing games (minus online games) am I good with the 1.8GHz?
-
Light usage (like word processing, online games, online surfing) should be fine.
-
I hope so. Now I'm starting to regret some of my options, but I've heard what a nightmare it is to change your order.
-
The only advantage to the 1.8Ghz is that it allows for hardware virtualization. But I have yet to see that put to use by any software like Parallels or VMWare. Atleast I have not seen any benchmarks, that would be interesting though. -
-
Do you all really think that the 1.8 will make that little of a difference? I wouldn't mind waiting a few more days if the change will either save me money or make the computer faster.
-
-
You will not see a huge difference if you downgrade to 1.5Ghz, or upgrade to 2Ghz. The 1.8Ghz is still a great chip, just probably not quite worth $75 more than the 1.5Ghz. But it's not worth loosing your spot in line for like $25. -
cpu is upgradable in this laptop, you can always upgrade later on
-
if you fancy voiding your warranty yeah
-
)
-
I went with the 2.2 only because the 2.4 would have cost me £175 more...
But i only paid £1170 for my spec which is great for the UK -
-
I chose the 1.8ghz processor because it was one of the cheapest processors I could get at my budget.
I wanted mine with the 3 year warranty, so I ended up choosing the 1.8ghz over the 2.0ghz.
To me, the extra cache wouldn't make a huge difference as compared to the Core 2 Duo upgrade ( After all, I am upgrading from my current Celeron D ). And it was a fairly better processor compared to the 1.5ghz, which only had 667 FSB.
And as for gaming, the processor upgrade would not make a significant amount of difference as the only bottleneck for gaming is the GPU.
Furthermore, I already made the purchase, if I were to make a change in my order, I'd get shot all the way to the back of the line. -
@xatuuatx: Keep the 1.8Ghz. The 800Mhz buss and the 300Mhz combined make it a better buy than I first though. -
Now that I am thinking about it, is there a place where you guys go over how you benchmark your laptops during reviews?
I would love to run the exact same benchmarks on my lower spec'd M1330 and compare the results to other peoples machines.
I saw in the first look review which benchmarks you chose, but it would be great to see what settings were used for the benchmarks and any other steps you take. -

The bottomline is that 667mhz memory is fast enough for 800fsb cpus. What matters, though, is the latency that memory is running at, and that affects performance much more than additional 133mhz -
This wait feels like every day my parents tell me that tommorrow is christmas.. then when I wake up.. They go SIKE
and I cry myself back to sleep -
And by the way my desktop is CPU is running at 2.84Ghz, and my RAM is clocked at over 900Mhz.But I have the option to stick a huge heatsink on my desktop system.
FYI: I found the review guide with benchmarking guidelines. Yay for search!

Also, in case if you didn't know, bandwidth is not really a problem with C2Ds. Jumping from 677mhz CL3 memory to CL5 900mhz might hamper the performance rather than to improve it. Of course, there are many variables, but as a rule, higher-clocked memory with slower timings does not improve performance on C2Ds, especially when you are talking about such a small difference b/n 667 and 800mhz.
CPU's fsb, on the other hand, is important for C2Ds... the higher, always the better.. CPU is not communicating with memory directly, but rather memory controller... So effectively, with higher CPU fsb, you have faster memory controller, which improves the communication with the memory, esp. low-latency memory (subject to strap settings on memory controller, although I'm not sure if that's applicable on mobile platform). So there might be a point to getting a 800fsb CPU with 667 memory 'cause it means cpu is more efficient in communicating with memory AND the rest of the system (graphics, ports, hds, etc).
