I am in US so calling Dell is free! I know it sounds funny but I was in the act of of hanging up when the guy came on the phone.

Also, my impression is that customer service folks from South America (That is where he was) are the best when it comes to actually solving the problems. He even kept the free one day shipping on my order!

It is funny but whenever I come "this" close to canceling my order, Dell does something good and I don't cancel it. First was when they let me add the fingerprint reader and upgraded my shipping. Now, this! It is like a roller-coaster of customer service.

Now here is one to Dell not canceling my order!!!

    1) Taking ownership means that they are tired of hearing from you and to leave them alone before they get a restraining order on you

    2) Order status unvailable means that the dell servers crashed again cause they are dells

This is the email I just got from DELL :( , I am really sad. Still hoping for shipment on 7/27 but my hope is decreasing exponentially everyday.

Thank you for contacting Dell Customer Care.

I checked the information for you and as of now the estimated shipping date is 07/27/2007 and there might be a delay on the order as there are some parts that are on back order. if there is any delay on the order we will keep you informed.

If you require further assistance, please reply to this email without changing the subject line.

Dell values you as a customer and is committed to providing you with Superior Customer Experience.

    Thank you for choosing Dell.

    DEll e-mail:
"I truly apologize for the inconvenience caused due to the estimated delivery date being revised.

Please be advised that we try to deliver all orders within 6-10 business days. However as there is a shortage of glass in our manufacturing facility we had to revise estimated delivery dates. Kindly note we cannot assure a shipment date or delivery date at this stage, but there is always a possibility of the order being shipped on or arround 27 July. We will keep a track of your order and my colleague Jai K Sharma is personally following up this case and will keep you updated.

We will try to process the order as quickly as possible. Once again, I apologize and truly regret any inconvenience or frustration this matter may have caused. For any further questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us and we will be glad to assist you.

    Thanks & Regards,
    "

Can I ask, has anyone else received a phone call from Dell confirming your address for an order??

Im asking because this is my third order through dell in the past few years and I know they have my address all over their file. To add to that, Im sure they wont ship to the same address listed in the credit card as most businesses wont.

    Is this normal???

Wait, what? If your shipping address is not the same as the billing address or if your shipping address isn't registered with your credit card company as a shipping address, stores will usually call you to confirm. I know some stores won't even ship to non-billing addresses period.

All my addresses are the same... I just found it odd that with all the correspondence i have had with them in the past 3 weeks and to include the fact that all 3 of my orders has the correct address on them, why would they call to confirm my address???

I e-mailed my CSR to ask what the hold up is and was given a more general blurb. He basically said that during the build phase they do some testing too, and if anything is not working perfectly they take it back and replace it again and continue this. So in theory you could be in build for a long time if they have a batch of bad parts, or limit supply.

But he did not mention anything being back ordered on my system. As we have said though that does not mean much, and his reply stunk of a canned response.

I do have $200 off and free overnight shipping now though. But my order was bigger than most because I bought a lot of other stuff at the same time, and all my stuff was delayed. :p

Once I get a reply to a e-mail I place on the website I just reply to that with the ticket number etc. I normally get the same guy again. Helps keep a little responsibility on their end.

EDIT: Nevermind I just checked my e-mail and I got a different guy this time. But still the reply thing helps you keep a record of your support stuff.

My ETA dates for all systems was just changed to 15 August from the original of 9 September.

This may be good news for Canucks as this is one of the orders that kept getting cancelled that they resubmitted yesterday.

Sorry if this is a stupid question...

I picked the Soundblaster X-Fi as my sound option on the M1330 thinking it was an internal component, but have since realized it is an express card that protrudes out of the card slot. I know it is clearly labeled as an express card on the website, but being that this is my first laptop I did not know any better, and the rep did not shed much light on it when I asked about it while placing my order. Well I'm wondering when the card is not loaded, will I not be able to experience sound at all? Is there an integrated sound card as well or will the sound blaster card be my only available option for sound. The fact that it sticks out of the system and seeing as I will also have to charge the remote control in the same express card slot, this seems like far more trouble than it's worth...

when did you order it? if it was today or anytime in the last few days call and cancel that part!!!! yes it sticks out and also someone else stated in this thread a while back that it isn't a true X-Fi card and based on an older audigy or something and def not worth the price unless you want to output 5.1 audio most of the time to external speakers.
However yes you WILL experience sound without this card. You still have the built in sound found on all of out laptops just when you plug this thing in you bypass the internal sound

Thanks for the quick reply. So will my integrated sound option be the "High Definition Audio 2.0" or the "Integrated Sound Blaster Audigy HD Software Edition"? I just don't want my laptop to have crappy sound. Should I ask them to swap the X-Fi for the Audigy or just cancel the card and leave my laptop order alone?

I suspect the main benefit of the Audigy software is EAX (environmental) effects for games that support them. I don't know how prevalent such support is today and maybe games can get similar effects with MS DirectSound.
It will likely also add some extra controls to the volume control panel etc. - but probably nothing you would miss.

    Glad you brought this up...

The "Integrated Sound Blaster Audigy HD Software Edition" is this just another drain on system memory or does it really make a difference?

Since it's SW can we add it later?

your internal sound is the "High Definition Audio 2.0" no matter what option you choose. The "Integrated Sound Blaster Audigy HD Software Edition" is just that, software. The actual hardware still remains the intel HD 2.0 on the motherboard. If you don't not mind the extra cost, or if you plan on outputting 5.1 sound out of the laptop a high % of the time you actual use your laptop then keep the xfi. If you don't plan to output 5.1 or will mostly be traveling with your lappy then cancel the xfi! With headphones the "xfi" doesn't make a large enough difference towarrant the $75 price and it sticking out of the laptop, at least for for myself. As for getting the software edition I will admit I purchased that option but it really isn't worth the extra $25.

Does anyone know if I want to have 3 displays (led notebook + 22" monitor + 32" TV w/ hdmi) if the HDMI and the VGA outputs will output different pictures or if you can only use 2 displays and the VGA and HDMI mirror each other?
