Wow??!!! Are you saying cliegal got an LCD instead?!!! That is what I thought when I saw the picture when it was posted, but later someone said that he ordered an LED.... Rather disturbing.

oops i meant i ordered it june 27th, that was a month ago!

also it looks like the led lcd and ccfl lcd might actually be the same thickness. I was hoping for somethign super thing like the sony line especially the sony line like the 11.1 witht he graphite outside, that thing is as thin as 10 sheets of paper lol

Yeah because one is in solid silver while the other looks to have some black too. The lines he drew are the same length/incredibly close.

Maybe the LEDs that are thinner don't have the camera.

EDIT: And my ruler also says they are the same size. 1/2 an inch. Which you are right is thicker than the 1/4 inch Dell has been quoting but that could be due to scale.

I agree, looks thicker to me... is there a way to run some kind of program that will say what the screen manufacturer/screen type is... that's the only way we'll know... Dell might be scamming us and using the same frame for both?

you should be able to tell easily by how fast it comes on from being in an off position and i mean the screen how fast it lights up should be instant as opposed to the ccfl which takes a while to go from off to fully lit.

looks like the dell LED is thinner...but may just be me....her pics compared to the dummy pictures on techiscool's site look different too....need to download a program to have it scan the computer and it should come back with what type of screen it is....so to those two of you that have gotten the laptop download "everest home edition" and it will show you all the parts you have

I don't have a ruler at hand but yeah those look different to me.

Actually Dell roughly describes the dimension of LED screens with small print on the order page - only 0.1 inch thinner, i think its difficult to tell by photos.

Well, just called up Dell, they're getting a new ship date because they will not meet the date they gave me. They informed me again that there are no palm rests and my laptop will not move on until Dell receives a shipment of that. My case is being worked up in a higher management level and they will contact me when they get a new ship date and will also tell me the date the palmrests are estimated to arrive. I also informed them that I am paying around $100 in extra shipping charges because I had to change the address to have my parents ship it out to me via plane as opposed to boat shipment. I have been moved back into pre-production.

Just spoke to a friend at Dell. He says it is a 2 week lead time (about 6 days ago) on the LED screens and it is an industry wide issue. I actually was trying to get advice to change my order to instock products, but he said it wouldnt matter. Dont go changing your orders!

I just tried to get Dell to apply this new "Free Timbuk2 bag" offer to my existing order, since I was thinking about getting one anyway. They said that I would have to cancel and re-order pushing my estimated ship date back to 9/6.

I'm going to keep trying by email the rep that I placed the order with and see if they can do anything, because watching good deals go by while I sit here waiting for my laptop is starting to get frustrating.

Someone said a few pages ago that there are really only about 15 people posting in this thread. Generally speaking, there's 10 lurkers for every poster who are probably in the same situation. I've read this thread but not posted because I don't actually know the status of my order. I ordered my system through my workplace on 6/26 and still haven't received it. The person who handles it on my end, who is quite busy but excited to see the new hardware, has a "it'll get here when it gets here" attitude, which is fine really. I'm not the only one to order one at my work so at least I'm not alone in the boat. In any case, here's what I ordered if anyone was wondering.

    Dell XPS M1330
    Tuxedo Black
    T7700 2.4GHz
    2gb ram
    200GB 7200 RPM hard drive
    nVidia 8400M GS 128mb DDR3
    LED Backlit LCD, no camera
    9 cell battery
    N-draft wireless
