@atbnet: I thought we were waiting together.
Congratulations on the new laptop though! I am leaning towards the M4400 or the HP 8530w. -
The M4400 definitely looks good. The would be one of my choices.
-
This really sucks
I really had my heart set on that M1340
I gave my heart to Dell and they broke it
ujen Thats an F in A Lappy atbnet yours sounds Awesome too
But I went centrino 2 so I think I might go with the M4400 I'm not sure yet
I need to see a review or something first...
Or wait for a inspiron or Studio xps But it's hard telling when that'll be :.( -
Hey, on the upside, with the Latitude getting 19 hours, will a new XPS have 19+?
-
Nice gang signs Forte.
-
Awesome..didn't mean to take from the thread...but I just wanted to say *sweet deal* and congrat's and such
Cin -
Yeah thanks I'm excited about it. I already got my tracking number and it should be here Monday. Too bad my hard drives and RAM probably won't show up until Tuesday. So, we will see new Centrino 2 laptops on September 9th, one day after my 21 day return window.
-
Ahhh ,yes the lovely 21 day return window
What about the Total Satisfaction guarantee? Not applicable?
Well, you *get to know your lappy on Monday* and the HD's & RAM show up on Tuesday! No, not bad at all!
Cin -
So any idea's when studio XPS's or inspiron XPS's will be out?
-
The newest rumor is next month, but for all we know, they could finally spill the beans this week. Let's just say we're getting close.
-
Next month sounds like just an easy guess. I mean how could it NOT be next month? Except...how could it not be THIS month?
I'd buy that Studio 17 today with the deal that expires if I wasn't worried about being mad at myself later -
And, it's hard not order the S17, eh?
I understand..I want the Mini I..but am continuing to wait ~ instead of perusing other manuf's
I know how much each of us want the actual releases on the Dell's, that we are really looking forward to ordering!
It could be this month, or very well next...month..
I guess for now we still have to have a little *patience* *sigh*.
Cin -
Dell and Apple are the only two left that I'm aware of that have yet to release their montevina models (with the exception of the latitude and precision lines). Which also really surprises me, because if memory serves, Dell always waited around 6 months to update their business lines after updating the consumer ones.
Dell is really dropping the ball I think. There's been a lot of activity in the HP forum lately, and it's possible many got tired of waiting (like I'm starting to get) and so just bought an HP instead...
So, I think the title of this thread is very fitting. -
Yeah, it is kind of sad to see them just sit back and offer nothing. Not even any leaks or anything. A bit disheartening. I like Dell, so I just got an M1730 and I'll take it from there.
-
Yes, you are correct....and I'm hoping that my *eyes don't start to wander*...
I keep thinking *it wont be soon before long* But long, has been way to far of waiting time...
lol.
-
-
I guess I'm missing the Studio 17 deal again. The stupid thing is it might be what I'd choose anyway based on price and it basically fitting my needs. But I want to make an educated choice. -
I couldnt wait so ive gone for the Sony Vaio FW \/ \/ below! Another lost customer for Dell
Ow dear!
-
sonoritygenius Goddess of Laptops
I know what you mean TrisTan, my fingers are ITCHING to just order the Sony Z already
Someone saveeeee me lol
-
What the FREAKING HECK IS DELL DOING!?! They're ALWAYS ahead of everyone...now Gateway has a system in Best Buy with a bumped CPU/Chipset and a completely modern 9800GTS GPU! Toshiba too!
AT BEST BUY
BEST BUY is beating Dell. What the heck is going on? -
sonoritygenius Goddess of Laptops
Wolf - do you mean the Gateway 7811FX at Best buy?
its 17" but got a GREAT gpu! -
And that's not even the only one! Best Buy's got a Toshiba for a similar price with a worse GPU (think it's a 9700GT or GTS)-but that's STILL up to date.
If either of those had an LED backlit screen I'd get them, although I also want Blu Ray, and I'm not 100% clear on whether external USB Blu Ray drives will always be able to run any Blu Ray movie (because of goofy DRM issues). -
August is quickly coming to an end and not a peep from Dell. At least the Mini seems to be coming by the end of the week so maybe new product rollouts are ahead.
-
mmm i hope that the ppl who are top in dell are reading this thread.
-
...Now for the rest..You never know we could be surprised again on Tuesday!
Alas, it would be a good thing if they were
Cin -
If they're reading these threads, they're going "oh...you mean people want updated computers?
-
I've heard (from these forums)that Dell is dropping the XPS line and instead creating a Studio XPS line which is like a better version of the studio... I guess? I'm hoping they keep their XPS line but is there an article that tells about this?
-
There is this article from the Register
http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2008/08/13/dell_notebook_plans/ -
Hopefully all it means is something that would have been called "XPS" gets called "Studio XPS" or whatever.
I reaaaaally want a successor to the 1730. That thing's near flawless. Just bump up the CPU and chipset, bump the CPUs to 9800 series, tear out the physics chip, and throw an LED backlit screen on there (hopefully with multiple available resolutions). Or just throw an LED light on the current 1730 and I'll bite...
(Sorry, I keep repeating myself again and again but it's sooo frustrating!)
That article they just talk about more VOSTROS. Ugh. -
I hope the Studio XPS keeps the good options like 128gb ssd or the 256 gpu and led screen. The only thing I think the regular current studio line has over the current xps is the backlit keyboard which is nice but not all that important.
-
-
I think Alienware is a good computer brand (with some problems like any other computer line)but I think you pay some good money just for the brand name.
-
-
I don't want Alienware, I don't trust them, I don't like their options, I don't like their prices, and I hate how they look (although I'm a very function over form type of guy so that's the very last thing I consider). -
*breathe* just breathe..it's gonna happen soon...it has too
hmmmm.
Good idea on the Led screens
Cin -
I finally got sick of waiting, and pushed the button on a fully loaded XPS M1330 this morning...
At least I got a 5% discount and other upgrades on XPS Premium Warrenty support...but I do wonder how I will feel if it's delivered on the 8th Sept and on the 15th the new ones are released !
I also managed to the the 320 GB Free Fall Sensor (7200RPM) Hard Drive which isn't even available on the UK/EU websites...
I think I will love it for a year, then in Q4 2009, upgrade to the latest and greatest...
Let's hope it doesn't catch fire - although some would say that's what the 3 years warrenty, 3 years xps premium support and 3 years accidental damage cover are for
Philip -
If you can swing doing another one in a year, I wouldn't worry too much. By then we'll for sure either have i7, or all be waiting with baited breath for it
No question it'll be fine for a year assuming it's okay for you right now.
-
-
I want a backlit keyboard and gigabit ethernet -
-
Not to mention, decreased power consumption, and increased FSB for both the RAM and CPU, gigabit ethernet, just to mention a few. -
-
I'm having the same type of argument with some guy on some Apple boards. Penryn was a bigger update early this year than this is, and that was almost a non event.
But darn it Dell, hurry it up and at least announce something! They've got the Studio 17 on sale AGAIN, and it's sort of a better price this time. REALLY tempting, except now they're no longer offering the external X-Fi card I want to order with it. D-O-H.
