I think it is.

If the m1340 has the 9500gs would it have the ddr2 or 3 ram?
And what are the chances that the m1340 will have a 9500gt or 9600gs or even the 9600gt?
Cause I want to use this Laptop for a tad bit of Gaming
and the m1640 won't be out for awhile
So I don't want to wait for it and it'll be a bit big anyways... -
@spajix: No one can really say for sure what kind of specs the laptops will carry. However, since the 9500M GS is actually very similar to the 8600M GT, I don't think the new 13-incher will carry it. It's more likely that it will come with the 9300M GS, which the 9-series equivalent of the 8400M GS that the M1330 ships with. I wish Dell would end all this suspense already. It's getting very annoying.
-
The 9500 is on a smaller die process though, right? So it should be a possibility...
Though to me the 8600GT was very low performance even when it launched a year or two back. -
I guess it depends on how much smaller it is compared to the 8600M GT, but I still think the 9300M GS is the most likely replacement for the 8400M GS.
About the performance of the 8600, notebook chips are always underpowered compared to their desktop counterparts. The desktop 8600 was a mid-range card and so the mobile 8600 is effectively mid-mid-range. -
I'de say at least the 9500GS
I probably won't get a M1340 if there's anything less
And put in how the Centrino 2 chipset is 25% smaller
and how the New 9 series is smaller and puts off less heat
They could easily put the 9500GS in it
and I think if they want it to sell good they'll put something even nicer in it -
I definitely think they could do that. The M1640 would probably opt for the 9600 like the HP notebooks.
-
They need to at least put the 9700GT in the m1640
maybe even the 9800GTX but I don't think there wanting it to be for gaming so probably not
I just want the m1340 to be able to play some good games like Oblivion, Fallout 3, and Spore
It doesn't have to play crysis or anything -
You also have to consider the power consumption of these chips. The 9800M GTX is going to consume 70W or so (according to notebookcheck.net
) which means you need a larger power brick and battery life will be crap. The ASUS G50V has the 9700M GT and it comes with a 120W adapter, compared with the 90W adapter for the M1530 (and 65W for the M1330). Larger power bricks compromise mobility to a certain extent.
-
It could still be done
So there should be an option to hurt mobilty for better gaming
And to hurt gaming for better mobilty
it should be up to who ever is spending $1000 + for the Lappy to choose -
Well, for your sake, I hope Dell thinks the same way, spajix.
-
Finally found this...apparently the 9700GT has 48 processors-so it's sort of in between the mobile 8600GT and 8800GTS.
Not the greatest thing ever, but I'll sure take it over what most of these laptops are using now! -
lol I hope so too
-
Now, at this time, it is clear that BZ is being sold in US. JCparts already has it, and other retailers are offering it too.
Just an example that full Centrino 2 laptops (with Intel X4500 and Intel wireless) are available now. -
-
Sonystyle does not sell it because it is a business model. It's only on Sony B2B:

I've been waiting around for quite some time now hoping Dell would refresh their Studio lineup with Centrino 2, but this is getting ridiculous.
My final choices are between the Studio 17 and the HP dv7.
What do you think of the comparison between these two? If Dell eventually does add in Centrino 2 to the Studio 17, then would it be worth the wait, or would the dv7 be better anyways?
Thanks -
dv7 offers a better GPU-Geforce 9600GT (although the Radeon 3650 is still within the same "generation" of hardware and would be within spitting distance, I suppose), while the Studio 17 offers a better screen (the one with LED backlighting). Other than that they're pretty similar. So I'd just pick one based on which feature is more important to you and/or price. (Personally I'm never buying another screen that uses CCFLs for a variety of reasons.)
The fast front side bus is apparently worth even less than it was back on the Pentium 4 (where a bumped up FSB was worth about 1 speed grade on the CPU's clock speed). I've read that we won't see much benefit until Intel releases the first mobile quad core.
Of course Dell may release an XPS 1540 or whatever with a GPU that's much better than what HP offers AND has LED backlighting, etc. They probably will in fact. HP's always way behind on the GPUs. They're only just now matching what Dell had on their mid-range notebooks over a year ago.
Now WHERE THE HECK are the new/bumped notebooks Dell? I wants a 1730 with an LED backlight, and throw in the new chipset and bump the GPU to a 9800GTX while you're at it! Form factor seems awesome already since I think the 1730 is actually built to be used (most notebooks seem to be designed to look cute, not be run at 100% indefinitely-so far I haven't heard of a single 1730 overheating or anything, so it's almost perfect for me)
-
-
Yup thats right. 9700M GT has 32 stream processors. The 8600GT also has 32 stream processors, same as the 9600GT.
-
Thanks, yeah, that's what I read too.
What's confusing is the 8600GT, 8700GT, 9500GS, 8600GT, and 9700GT are ALL THE SAME BASIC HARDWARE! -
this might be a dumb question, but, what's the chances that the 9 series GPU from nvidia is gonna be defective? other than the normal chances of a GPU being defective?
-
Probably the same as any other GPU. I wouldn't worry about. Just get a warranty, as notebooks have high failure rates anyway.

I have a government contract with Dell, and my sales rep told me today that the Latitude E-Series should be out on August 12th, as well as the Precision M2400 and M4400. He also said the "Ultramobile Latitudes" won't be out until September, with no exact date as of yet. He did not mention the XPS line.
Sorry, that's the best I can do! -
The Precisions are coming out with the Latitudes? Wow, Dell snuck those in at the last minute it seems, seeing as they only got a brief mention in the recent slides that Engadget posted.
Nobody knows anything about new XPSes. This is worrisome. -
All I know is there have been some dates going around for M1340 and M1640.
Forgot what they were exactly. -
august 24th
but they donno about that one since the 24th is a sunday and they never release on a sunday
and i think the other one was around september 23rd? -
I think most people won't get their Montevina laptops until the end of August or beginning of September - it's not even just Dell. Intel's delay affected everyone. I hope Dell releases their laptops sometime in August though...
-
While the supply has been low, you can buy Montevina laptops from ASUS, Sony, Toshiba, etc. In fact Best Buy is selling the new Montevina-based Qosmios in-store, so you can go pick one up today!
-
Do you ppl think that the new xps's will come with a floating keyboard layout like the new vaio models?
I sure would love to see them implemented, as they make the laptop look 100x better -
-
-
It'll have a backlite keyboard surely
Which is pretty Niffty If I say so myself
But I don't know what a floating keyboard is?
Anybody else thinking about getting E 6500 or E 6400 instead?
I very well may do this
It all depends on the price and gpu in it when they come out... -
heres a link to a pic of a 'floating' keyboard, dont really know what the real name is, but i find its refered to this way quite often.

thought i'd mention....in addition to watching movies, the 16:9 ratio would also be great if you are doing work in photoshop or flash as you get additional space for the toolbars etc.
-
I refer to those as chicklet keyboards
-
Chicklet keyboard is what I heard from a guy working at Sony too.
-
either way what i would like is an all aluminum laptop.
-
hmmm...hurry up dell, i seriously cant wait any longer
-
2,400 USD for the base configuration of the first Centrino 2 laptop!!!:
http://configure.us.dell.com/dellst...code=ss&c=US&l=EN&dgc=SS&cid=30152&lid=679978 -
Not sure why that one is so expensive, but they start at around $1100
http://configure.us.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?oc=BLCWEFP -
That's the E6400 ATG rugged laptop which is why it's more expensive than the rest of the new Latitudes.
-
The release would be awesome, if it were at the same time as the Mini I...but that's my silly *day dreaming*
-
We'll see what happens, Tuesday is only a day away.
-
-
-
Yeah it's some sort of unveiling event.
-
Yeah, its confirmed that the Dell Mini Inspiron will be unveiled, though there may be other product releases as well. I doubt Dell would be like Apple and hold a conference the exact same time as Apple holds their conferences. XD Though if it means knowing what the Montevina refreshes will look like, hey, I'm fine with that.
