Indeed, the Mini 9 has no camera option now according to the order page. Hopefully this is just temporary, or an error, otherwise the Mini 9 will become less appealing compared to the other netbooks available.
-
I just tried ordering a mini 9 and there is no longer a camera option.I wonder if this is permanent.
-
You can pull up a Mini 9 with Webcam options by entering E-Code 6f963-DNPCXX2 at:
http://www.dell.com/content/topics/topic.aspx/us/segments/dhs/catalog?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&~ck=mn
Enter the E-code in the text boxes at the left. You get the Mini 9 cheaper like that too
The CS rep said this was a glitch in the system. -
BTW: You can still configure the I910 with either 1.3 or .3MP camera using small business option... -
That's nice, though if by doing it this way....you get it cheaper!!!
Saving money is always an added bonus!
Cin -
The glitch has been fixed. I see the webcam options there again.
Edit: I though there were no savings with the link I provided, but I see there are. Its $30 cheaper with the link, but even then, that's the price I originally paid for the first Mini 9 I ordered. The prices must have been raised since then. -
I love how Dell does their pricing...and how they change from what seems, one minute to another...
The webcam is back so that's the good thing!

Something I haven't seen mentioned yet, you can now pre-order the Dell Mini through Vodafone as part of a Mobile Internet contract for £30 a month:
http://www.mydellmini.com/forum/vodafone-starts-taking-pre-orders-t127.html -
What local store can I pick up a 2gb module for the mini? Does anyone knwo what model number or what not so I can get it at best buy?
-
Thanks for the info on the pre-order through Vodafone
Cin -
Ok I officially have the dell fever now. I bought the mini 9. Then got an iomega 250hdd for it. Now, I just ordered the Studio 15 Laptop with 320HD and 4 GB ram. Now Im extremely excited lol
-
-
-
Yeah it would be the same memory. Good price from Circuit City.
-
-
-
Terrigno, are you upgrading the memory as you found the 1gb was just not performing? How long have you been using the mini? I am wondering why the quick jump, obviously 2 is better than 1, but do you have a reason other than just to do it (and spend $50)?
-
I kind of have the *buying fever feeling* this morning for some reason! LOL.

So if someone has never read or signed the "Apple EULA" he should also not fall afoul of it? Thoughtcrime anyone?
I don't believe it is illegal at all for talk of OSx86 to happen, if it was, even discussion of Apple's NDA against iPhone developers would be illegal and so would discussion of jailbreaking the iPhone or a myriad of other things which happen in the computing world that stray from EULAs.
Methinks Apple is getting special treatment here. -
Just because you haven't read the EULA doesn't mean you can claim ignorance to it. It is being challenged in court though.
Apple is finally caving, they recently dropped their NDA for the iPhone. I doubt though that they will make OS X available for anything other than Apple computers because they don't make enough money from software sales; their business model depends on them selling hardware. That being said, I think they might follow Microsoft when it comes to using their software in illegal ways. So sure a few people here and there are using OS X in ways that break the EULA but eventually if that user becomes accustom to the OS eventually they will buy the Apple hardware too. Even if only a small percent of the OSx86 users do this Apple has made quite a few new customers. Plus you can't pirate hardware so Apple overall isn't losing anything from the OSx86 project. However companies like Psystar start to hurt their bottom line, that's why they are going after them. -

Therefore, anyone who is using it illegally to save $$ isn't going to spend money where they are stealing from... -
Apple also aims to control the whole user experience both with hardware and OS; shiny OS shiny hardware. Eventually some of these people are going to buy into the Apple way of thinking and purchase the hardware as well. If they had never had the opportunity to try OS X, they would still be using the competitor software most likely. -
Well, Apple has already switched over to Intel hardware, they should just release OSX as a stand-alone OS.
-
Also, if you read the entire NDA instead of Engadget's crap reporting about it, you will see that it only drops the confidentiality clause for apps which are approved by Apple, not the apps which are denied. So developers are essentially back at square one but now everyone thinks Apple did them a favor.
Anyway, I'd really like to know how everyone's experience is with Ubuntu on the Mini - is it sleek and faster than XP? Is all the hardware supported? -
-
I own currently own 4 apple machines and put an average of $8k - $10k a year in the pockets of apple.
While a lot of people do put OSX on their own hardware to save cost, I do it (very openly) because I want OSX on hardware that Apple does not provide, in this case the Mini 9.
I've never understood why some people (forum police) get so worried and worked up about this. Discussions are harmless, it's the act of installation that can be considered wrong. -
Of course there will be some people who have put Ubuntu on their Windows Mini- but I wanted to wait and buy one with Ubuntu already on it because I want to support Dell in selling computers with Linux and not Windows. Also, it should be properly supported with all the drivers and so on. -
I just realized another thing that is different from my Mini than all of the unboxing videos I have seen. Mine did not have the plastic protective film on the cover when it was shipped. Here is a list of some of the differences between my Mini and the unboxing videos:
1. Different box (mine looks like a box you would find on store shelves, not the usual plain cardboard box) I posted pictures in an earlier post.
2. No 'dummy' SD card in the slot
3. No protective film on the top cover.
Maybe all these differences are attributed to Dell trying to expedite orders and just overlooking some things.
And one really weird thing. I ran JellyBean keyfinder and the Windows license key reported was different than the sticker on the bottom of the Mini. -

So if you continue to do so, then you could even get your account disbanded. So please STOP talking about OSX on the Mini 9.
I have warned you 2 times now, and we have already had a Moderator warn people in this forum!!! SO STOP.
Thank you... -
Hey guys....This thread is for discussion of the Dell Inspiron 9 (Mini-I) remember?

I'm sorry, but continuing to discuss here..could possibly lead to this thread closing..and I don't want to see that...Do you?
I'm not trying to be mean or uptight..but let's stay on topic before this goes in another direction none of us want!!!!
Look: Smilies:laugh:
Back on topic now!
So,I had ordering fever today, almost picked up the phone and ordered my I9....but I held back for a bit yet!!!!
Cin -
Can somebody send me a link to what to buy to upgrade to 2gb memory?
Thanks for any help. -
-
But, no I wanted it in the *red* way before it came out..and I'm still holding out...I'm hoping soon
I know I wouldnt be happy if I didn't wait, and order what I really wanted!

I think lenovo has a red netbook ie S10.
-
I believe that is the max and I doubt anyone has bought a 4gb stick to see if it will run.
-
It would compliment my 1530 (Scarlett), very well!
Cin -
Yea, Im just going to wait and see what comes around my bday , nov 29, so I can see what has come out that really makes me want to buy it for my bday.
-
Yes I suppose 2 is plenty for it. Sure is a cutie, but I'd like to max the ram.
-

-
Now wait, I could get both the I9 and I12 or even the Lenovo S10..create a Netbook Posse! oh Lulz....One will be enough for me!!!
Cin -
Yea, I thought the same thing. Get more than one but I know I wouldn't use them all. I would rather get one netbook and one small, medium laptop and a big TV or Monitor to use. I'm not a a gamer so most laptops, netbooks made now can do what I want to do.
-
A Netbook for *out and about*, a larger one for at home, etc...I don't have my desktop anymore so my 1530 is perfect!I mean you could order both the I9 & I12 (when it comes out) try them out for a few days and keep the one that works the best per se!
I'm not a gamer, except for my DS Lite ~ so what I have works just great!!!
Cin -
what happens. It is so cheap. -
-
I just want to see a *refresh* on the I9's w/more options..
*cough* colors! etc.
Cin -
An Orange Mini anyone ?
