Indeed, the Mini 9 has no camera option now according to the order page. Hopefully this is just temporary, or an error, otherwise the Mini 9 will become less appealing compared to the other netbooks available.

The built-in webcam for I910 is kinda sad quality-wise compared to one one in the Studio...I may have gotten the cheaper .3MP one as well...not sure

BTW: You can still configure the I910 with either 1.3 or .3MP camera using small business option...

Interesting, did they indicate when it was going to be fixed???

That's nice, though if by doing it this way....you get it cheaper!!!

Saving money is always an added bonus!

The glitch has been fixed. I see the webcam options there again.

Edit: I though there were no savings with the link I provided, but I see there are. Its $30 cheaper with the link, but even then, that's the price I originally paid for the first Mini 9 I ordered. The prices must have been raised since then.

Glad the glitch has been *fixed*! Thanks for the update, Jaime!!! ;)

I love how Dell does their pricing...and how they change from what seems, one minute to another...

The webcam is back so that's the good thing! :)

They always seem to change things around with out announcing or anything! The best way to keep on top of the latest offers is literally to check them everyday.

Something I haven't seen mentioned yet, you can now pre-order the Dell Mini through Vodafone as part of a Mobile Internet contract for £30 a month:

Yup they surely do! That's why I sometimes feel if you find a good deal at that time with Dell..it's better to get it then vs. *ponder* and wait. (If you know that's what you want)! And, it go's back to the *ever-changing pricing* ;)

Thanks for the info on the pre-order through Vodafone

Picking it up locally would be the most expensive route. Though some have deals from time to time, just check the ads on Sundays. I'd say buy it through Newegg otherwise.

Congrats! It isn't hard to catch the feature because who doesn't like nice and shiny new gadgets?

Terrigno, are you upgrading the memory as you found the 1gb was just not performing? How long have you been using the mini? I am wondering why the quick jump, obviously 2 is better than 1, but do you have a reason other than just to do it (and spend $50)?

So if someone has never read or signed the "Apple EULA" he should also not fall afoul of it? Thoughtcrime anyone?

I don't believe it is illegal at all for talk of OSx86 to happen, if it was, even discussion of Apple's NDA against iPhone developers would be illegal and so would discussion of jailbreaking the iPhone or a myriad of other things which happen in the computing world that stray from EULAs.

Methinks Apple is getting special treatment here.

Just because you haven't read the EULA doesn't mean you can claim ignorance to it. It is being challenged in court though.

Apple is finally caving, they recently dropped their NDA for the iPhone. I doubt though that they will make OS X available for anything other than Apple computers because they don't make enough money from software sales; their business model depends on them selling hardware. That being said, I think they might follow Microsoft when it comes to using their software in illegal ways. So sure a few people here and there are using OS X in ways that break the EULA but eventually if that user becomes accustom to the OS eventually they will buy the Apple hardware too. Even if only a small percent of the OSx86 users do this Apple has made quite a few new customers. Plus you can't pirate hardware so Apple overall isn't losing anything from the OSx86 project. However companies like Psystar start to hurt their bottom line, that's why they are going after them.

Hm... I'm hearing what you're saying, but IMHO I don't think anyone using OSX illegally will eventually buy from Apple! I mean, the whole point in using it illegally is not having to pay the high prices that Apple demands for their hardware...

Therefore, anyone who is using it illegally to save $$ isn't going to spend money where they are stealing from... ;)

You have to look at the people who are using OS X on non Apple computers. They are mostly college level (20s) or lower so they don't have a large income stream. And you figure if someone is using your software illegally, at least they aren't using your competitors. So, if you use OS X on your hackintosh for a few years you will get accustom to OS X and be more likely to purchase it when you have a larger income stream. This isn't to say there aren't professionals out there using hackintosh, but they are an exception to the rule.

Apple also aims to control the whole user experience both with hardware and OS; shiny OS shiny hardware. Eventually some of these people are going to buy into the Apple way of thinking and purchase the hardware as well. If they had never had the opportunity to try OS X, they would still be using the competitor software most likely.

Well, Apple has already switched over to Intel hardware, they should just release OSX as a stand-alone OS.

Dude. You're mixing it up. Apple's EULA is not law. Its their license agreement, which you are supposed to agree to before using it, nothing else. Not like a real law, which is passed by the Legislature.

Also, if you read the entire NDA instead of Engadget's crap reporting about it, you will see that it only drops the confidentiality clause for apps which are approved by Apple, not the apps which are denied. So developers are essentially back at square one but now everyone thinks Apple did them a favor.

Anyway, I'd really like to know how everyone's experience is with Ubuntu on the Mini - is it sleek and faster than XP? Is all the hardware supported?

    au contraire mon fraire

I own currently own 4 apple machines and put an average of $8k - $10k a year in the pockets of apple.

While a lot of people do put OSX on their own hardware to save cost, I do it (very openly) because I want OSX on hardware that Apple does not provide, in this case the Mini 9.

I've never understood why some people (forum police) get so worried and worked up about this. Discussions are harmless, it's the act of installation that can be considered wrong.

Have any Minis with Ubuntu actually shipped yet? They were released in the UK a little over a week ago, and I ordered the day after they came out and was given an estimated arrival date of the 10th of October. I'm guessing there aren't any actual consumer ones out in the wild yet. The US seems to have fared worse with their pre-orders for Ubuntu Minis with even longer due dates.

Of course there will be some people who have put Ubuntu on their Windows Mini- but I wanted to wait and buy one with Ubuntu already on it because I want to support Dell in selling computers with Linux and not Windows. Also, it should be properly supported with all the drivers and so on.

I just realized another thing that is different from my Mini than all of the unboxing videos I have seen. Mine did not have the plastic protective film on the cover when it was shipped. Here is a list of some of the differences between my Mini and the unboxing videos:

    1. Different box (mine looks like a box you would find on store shelves, not the usual plain cardboard box) I posted pictures in an earlier post.
    2. No 'dummy' SD card in the slot
    3. No protective film on the top cover.

Maybe all these differences are attributed to Dell trying to expedite orders and just overlooking some things.

And one really weird thing. I ran JellyBean keyfinder and the Windows license key reported was different than the sticker on the bottom of the Mini.

The reason people on forums get so worked up about this is because when you signed up for this forum you agreed that you wouldn't discuss illegal things on this Forum!!

So if you continue to do so, then you could even get your account disbanded. So please STOP talking about OSX on the Mini 9.

I have warned you 2 times now, and we have already had a Moderator warn people in this forum!!! SO STOP.

    Thank you...

Yea, I thought the same thing. Get more than one but I know I wouldn't use them all. I would rather get one netbook and one small, medium laptop and a big TV or Monitor to use. I'm not a a gamer so most laptops, netbooks made now can do what I want to do.

Yup, when you think about it...(well, my way of thinking)

A Netbook for *out and about*, a larger one for at home, etc...I don't have my desktop anymore so my 1530 is perfect! :) I mean you could order both the I9 & I12 (when it comes out) try them out for a few days and keep the one that works the best per se! ;) :) I'm not a gamer, except for my DS Lite ~ so what I have works just great!!! :)
