I'd buy the cheapest Mini I could get my hands on, and upgrade to the 32gb ssd later.

You may find you don't even need it, anyway. I've found most of my needs can be handled by a large SD card.

I'd jump on it right away, if you really want it.

A mistake like this is exactly what got me my 99 dollar Mini 9. A few minutes from now, your deal may not be there anymore.

Be careful of the 32GB SSD though. I've heard they are too slow to run XP, which is why they are only on the Ubuntu systems.

the 32 is only 25 dollars more compared to the 16 in that configuration page...vs the 100 dollars normally. can anyone confirm or deny the 32 being too slow for xp?

Oh! Thank you for that info. I was holding out for a XP with 32GB, but I guess it would be better to stick with looking for a 16GB.

I was wondering if this can be done. I’m planning on getting the cheap 4gb unbuntu OS with webcam and Bluetooth. This way I can save some money since I have a licensed xp home retail disc (good key).

What I would do when I get it:
Upgrade the ram to 2GB or 4 GB at 800 MHz (setup sheet says it can handle up to 800Mhz)

Up grade the SSD with the 32 GB one here:

    http://www.mydigitaldiscount.com/Ca...ni+PCI-e+SSDs:Dell+Inspiron+Mini+9+PCI-e+SSDs

So that way I have a fast HDD and fast ram 4 gb will be over kill, but why not I may end up going 2 gb?

My question is can I do this and are both of the ram slots replaceable? (IE 2 ram sticks can be replaced?)

I think this way I can get a pretty fast netbook? I was going to get the acer, but I like the built in Bluetooth of the dell.

What do you think, would it be worth it to upgrade all this?

right so I could upgrade the ram to 2gb @ 800Mhz

O know that it would only see 3.5 gb but for 10 dollars extra not a big deal. But I would go 2 Gb since the system cant handle more than 2 lol

its not 10 dollars extra, the mini only has 1 ram slot, and a 4gb stick is quite expensive compared to a 2gb stick.

On another note, will someone with 2gbs and windows xp do me a HUGE favor and run this benchmark for me and tell me the score? This might tip the buy now side of the scale for me.

Anyone have any comments about the optional Integrated 1.3M Pixel webcam? I'm wondering if i should get that option or not. I don't currently use a webcam and I'm not sure I would really need one. But for $25 extra, should I go for it anyway? Does it affect the system in anyway...like does it add weight at all to the Mini?

I guess it depends. If you don't plan on using video chat, there's really no reason to pay for the camera.

Personally, I don't, and don't have any plans to use, video chats programs. So, I opted to save the cash and dropped the camera.

I've seen a couple of shops in the UK increasing the price of the NC10, despite a small tax reduction   that should make it cheaper: It seems to be the netbook that everyone wants, at least in preference over the other hard drive netbooks.

its 460 and the specs are equal or better compared to the mini.

6 hour battery, 160gb harddrive that i can even swap out to a seagate 7200.3...

still under 3lbs and its slimmer.

ultimately the mini is still smaller and uses different technology but still!

    i feel so torn :(

I'd buy the NC10 over the Mini, easy.

The Mini is nice. The Samsung is a best in class device.

I find myself pining over the NC10. If I sold my Mini and my I13, I think I could replace both machines with that one.

This link is giving you the cheap $299 Black Friday deal with XP instead of Ubunto! And 8GB standard rather than 4GB. And you can upgrade the system too as needed! Free shipping too!

    http://www.techbargains.com/jump.cfm?afsrc=1&u=141835-n-30&id=511&arg=DNPHXD2

I just bought one in obsidian black with Win XP, 512MB (I already have a 2GB card to put in it), 16GB SSD, Bluetooth, and 1.3M Webcam for only $384 + tax and free shipping. Yesterday I configured the same system and it would have cost me $100 more total.

Red is also available...go Cin! :)

I also just ordered a Sandisk 8GB SD card for it from Circuit City on sale today for only $19.99

Just for a second there I really thought, 'Cin's going to on holiday to Turkey'. :) I'm glad to see the price is going down for you.

For few hours today, Dell was selling the 8gig Ubuntu Mini for £97 on the UK site. It's back up to full price now; some people who ordered have had confirmations.

Prices change all the time: Two days ago the Mini 9 was £2 more than a NC10. Dell hace dropped their price by £40 and the Samsung has gone up by £30. Suddenly the Dell looks a better deal,

Not a bad price. I think that's about the price Dell should be regularly to be a little more competitive in the netbook market. I am sure you will enjoy your red Mini that you have been waiting forever for.

I decided to torture myself, since I already have and love my white Mini. I clicked the link and configured exactly what I have (including my 3 year warranty). It came to $552.25 including shipping and tax. I paid $633.64, then they refunded something $45.49 because the price dropped while I was waiting for mine, making my total $588.15. They gave me a free E-Sling Medium case (about a $50 value) because of all of the delays on the early ones and shipped it overnight once it was finally ready. Of course the pink and red are beautiful but my white is very nice. In spite of my impatience, I figure I broke even. :)

I noticed they are offering Complete Care on these as an option. Beware. That delayed some early orders. Dell was telling people you couldn't get Complete Care on a Mini which made it an illegal configuration which caused the automatic cancellation of some orders. Sure would hate to see anyone else go through that.

    Cin,
I would recommend getting the basic 512MB because you'll probably want to upgrade later to the max 2GB which is very cheap and easy to just pop in. With those savings, instead go ahead now and order your mini with the 16GB SSD which youll probably want since youre running XP on it. As for the webcam, thats a toss up. I went ahead and got it too anyway.

Get 512 memory and then buy 2gb for $25 online.

Get the 1.3 camera just because.... if you ever want to sell it someday it'll be worth it to have it maxed out.

I would also get the 16GB SSD unless you plan on getting a Runcore drive from mdd later on.

looks like a good deal though....

I have it, use it with my 1530...and will probably be getting another one for my I9....That price of $27.99 is a great price :D :D

The MB BT 5000 is small, compact, reliable..and scrolls very well! :D
No software needed, the bluetooth finds and recognizes the mouse :D
