    Thanks Cin,

I think I'll pick up a Microsoft Bluetooth Notebook 5000 when I find the best deal on one. It got good reviews on Amazon too.

The Black Friday deals on the Mini were great! I sold my original one on eBay and bought a cherry red one with the larger 16 GB SSD and webcam.

It will match my new Dell Studio 15 (red). Shipping date is Dec. 10 with delivery the next day. Hope it actually comes sooner.

Base price is now back up to $349. Congrats to those who got in on the Black Friday deal...and sorry to those who missed it ;)

By the way, here is a GREAT deal for the maximum 2GB RAM upgrade for your Mini 9. You can get it now online or instore at Fry's for only $7.99 after MIR.

    $27.99 - $20 rebate = $7.99!
    http://shop2.frys.com/product/5175606

Its simple to put it in and will take you less than 1 minute. There are 2 screws on the underside that open a door and you just pop out your existing RAM chip and swap in the new one.
Here is a video I found on YouTube that shows how to do it:

Its kind of funny, when i configured it during the sale, the ubuntu "discount" was more expensive compared to the xp link provided on the forum

the one with xp had an 8gb minimum and xp for 300 vs ubuntu 300 with 4Gb and a few lower options as well.

Hey Cin' Welcome to the Club, FINALLY!!! Now, comes the hard part. Finding the perfect bag, case, or sleeve. The options will drive you more insane than playing around with Dell's configurations. :)

    I don't even use a sleeve. If I'm carrying my I9, it's naked.

The thing was so cheap, I see no reason to go out of my way to avoid scratching.

I'm reading on the net that Dell will be offering the Mini for $299 again tomorrow for Cyber Monday. They also have a killer deal on an XPS 15 for $600 off.

It's always cool to find out that something you already own has you covered. Cheap computers can get expensive pretty quickly, once you throw in all the extras.

I'm sorry about the Gnome...I was trying to lighten up my mood since I had a horrible dream the other night about Gnomes..

No worries, I will switch it back later on this evening. ;)

Aaaa..yes...I think I will be leaving my Netbook alone until I actually install something else, easy and simple..(like Ram) :)

i was thinking along the lines of hdd status light and internal usb hub for 2 more ports. Its not even going to be mine, i just like taking stuff apart (two ps2's no longer work, but the third one is modded and i learned how NOT to take them apart on the first two) :D

Here's a sleeve for only $3.96 with Free Shipping too!
    http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.14339

It says its for the Asus Eee but reviews on other sites (Slickdeals) say it fits the Mini 9 perfectly. They also said its basic protection, but it's a quality sleeve thats made very well. I just ordered one. For under 4 bucks I'll take it!

It's an excellent sleeve/case. I picked up one myself. You can even fit the AC Adapter inside if you want. They also have it available in Orange and Green.

Deal Extreme also carries another one made out of memory foam that according to the reviews will fit the Mini 9. However, most reviews state that it has white piping instead of the all black as shown in the pictures. It's a little more expensive at $5.90 and you can check it out here.

You're right! I just bought one myself!

I found a small backpack at Wal-Mart for $9 and keeping the mini inside the sleeve will protect it in the backpack while I carry my other junk in there.

hey guys im having a problem after i installed ubuntu 8.10 on my mini. i installed it by making a usb ubuntu disc, the install went well, made the full partition my root, (no swap) and all is working well.

the problem im having is using Fn-2. this should access the wireless manager so i can choose what to turn off (bluetooth or wireless adapter). however, it doesnt come up... any ideas?

i believe you normally have to install the drivers for the FN keys to work, i know on my 1520 i had to in order to get the brightness keys to work

You will need to install Aircraft Manager.

    Download this aircraft-manager .deb

Now in terminal navigate to the folder with the file and type:

    Code:
    sudo dpkg -i aircraft-manager_belmont11_all.deb
This will put an application in System>Preferences called Airplane Mode

You will now be able to turn off Bluetooth and/or WiFi However, the Fn+2 key will not work.

On a side note, did you get the sound working? There is a little hack to get it working correctly under Ubuntu 8.10

Best Buy doesn't have them. I've only seen the black and white there.

The only way I can think of that you could possibly get one by Saturday would be from the outlet, but I haven't seen any of the new colors yet. If you want it that quick, you're going to have live with black or white.
