Ubuntu, and I am afraid that might be a nail in my coffin. Seems like that Os was late to the party and might be a reason for some of the delays.

I just really want to try something different and figure if it does not work out I will do a dual boot.

I called to try and add more warranty to my mini Wed, what a lost cause. I could hardly understand the customer service rep and I ended up getting off the phone out of frustration. I tried to spell my mothers maiden name about 10 times and she kept mispelling it badly.

The warranty was an extra $100 anyways, seems a bit steep considering I got my mini for $404

Here is more frustration on the mini shipping situation. I wish I had just bought one from eBay.

I cancelled an order for a new red mini that originally was to ship on 12/10 (but did not). Then the shipping date got pushed to the 19th. Then the guy on the phone told me it could be longer than that. I cancelled and bought a mini from the outlet as I need to get one soon for use on a trip. Shipping date listed was 12/15 for the outlet mini.

Today I got an email saying that shipment of the outlet mini has been pushed to the 19th!! This is the exact same date give earlier for the red mini. Why on Earth would it take so long to ship from the outlet? Aren't those computers ready to go?? Every other outlet laptop I have purchased has been sent within a couple days. I am wondering what the heck is truly going on with Dell.

I emailed customer support to voice my frustrations. I just cancelled a new, red, non-outlet laptop to get one shipped earlier. Now it's going to be shipped at roughly the same time as the original order. I feel like I'm being punished...

I think the new release, dells poor planning and the holiday crunch is more than dell can handle. I have purchased probably 10k worth of Dell computers in the past 4 years so this is a bit frustrating.

But if it is anything like all the others the final product is worth the wait

Oish...Yeah that extra warranty is a lot of $$ for such small netbook...Normally, I would go with the extra warranty..but with the I9, i just stayed with the standard 1 year..Plus usually you can add it later on..by Dell contacting you towards the end and trying to *upsell* it..so I'm not to worried ;) :D

    Yeah that's major stinkage right there..dead on! :( :(
    :(

I also wonder what is going on with Dell lately. And some reason, I try and keep faith that things are going to get better?

I mean how can such a major corporation, not keep up with supply and demand on the I9?? I mean you would think they wouldve learned from all the delays in the first batch of orders that went out..that peeps had to wait what seemed like *forever* for.

And, they shouldv'e been prepared for the Holiday ordering season..There's no way they can even try to defend themselves on that one... :(

I hope that things work out for you, Scott, Jane, and myself... :D
(and all the others going thru the same ordeal) :)

    Cin ;) :)

I am wondering if the difficulty in getting credit these days is affecting Dell. If they are having a harder time getting credit to purchase parts for their computers they may not be able to build as many as previously, thus there are delays. If they are using mostly money from sales to keep their supplies flowing it might also explain why there are delays in getting laptops built and shipped.

Also, perhaps overseas computer parts manufacturers are having some troubles due to economic times as well. Maybe these are some of the factors influencing the delayed shipments....

    Just speculating....

Well..those are good speculations..and I've thought a few of the same things, myself.

If this is the situation with the I9's..then they should find a way to be more upfront and honest with their customers, stop selling netbooks orders that they cannot fulfill...and take a step back and look at their own *big picture*.

And, find a way to take care of the customer, and themselves.

I wonder if the keyboard issue has something to do with it as well.
Or maybe not... I think they just oversold.. more than they could make and deliver.
Mine never said build stage ever. The white one either, it just sent.

The slowdown is probably just Dell's Just-In-Time inventory system, keeps prices low but can lead to a parts shortage when they get slammed.

Thats great news that you are *in production*, now~! :D

This happens with every major Dell release. There's really nothing strange going on here, just business as usual.

Really, what's going on here is nothing compared to the disaster that was the m1330 release.

Yes. Much easier to type on. Especially the new placement of the apostrophe. I didn't realize how much I actually used it. Also I love the addition of a right Alt key. I tend to use the right Alt more than the left Alt.

Just how much of a build stage is there I wonder? Surely these things come in boxes direct from the manufacturer; Dell should know just how many of each colour/OS they have in stock, in reserve and being shipped to them. While thay can run out of stock I wouldn't have thought they wouldn't know if there were going to be delays well in advance.

Those who are waiting have my sympathy.

Yeah the build stage usually last 3-5 days...and it's lasted nearly 2.5 weeks! Makes me such a happy person!  :p

So, I will await my 12/19 ESD..not much else I can do but cancel..and I've waited to long to do that. ;)

For me, it's the difference between using a computer on my lap vs. on a desk.

While portable, my Inspiron 13 is still best used when at a desk or table.

My Inspiron 9 is just as comfortable to use on the couch as on a desk.

For me, this computer is mostly used as a couch surfer. Previously, I used to use a Nokia n800 for this, which was nice, but this is better. It's cheap, has a great screen for surfing, it's super light, quiet, I can fly on the keyboard, and it has very good battery life.

The more time I spend with my MIni 9, the more I love the little guy. When I purchased it, I was thinking that I may not even keep it. Now, I don't know what I'd do without it.

Good news, my outlet mini finally shipped. I had to call Dell and confirm my shipping address (my work address) because it wasn't the same as my billing address. Sheesh, why didn't they just email immediately when I ordered? Turns out that's why shipping was delayed.

Waiting now for "Snowball" my Alpine white mini with 1 GB ram, 16 GB STEC SSD and Bluetooth.

I had exactly the same issue. The order was stuck in "Order Processing" or some such, and it sounded like there might be a payment issue. I called the automated order status line, and it was also vague, but somewhat foreboding. So I called a human, and eventually got transferred to some kind of verification department. I have no idea why I have to guess what to do rather than getting some kind of query from Dell. I've now called my credit card company and added my work address as an alternate address.

Time is ticking away, I hope it ships Tuesday!

I had a bit to drink last night an apparently entered the wrong password too many times on the dell website and locked myself out for 24 hours!
Guess not much would have happened today anyways..

Hello there everybody. First post here. Ive been checking out the boards here and it seems everybody is pretty happy overall with their i9, so I think its time I join the ranks.

Ive decided im going to get one from the outlet, the prices are coming down there it seems and I dont want to wait a long time to order a new one. I have a couple questions/concerns about ordering from the outlet though. Other than the obvious the computer is "used" stuff what are the drawbacks of buying a refurbed computer? Also how long does it take for the outlet to ship them. I would like the mini by friday so if it gets ordered monday should there be any reason why it wouldnt arrive by then?

    Thank you!

Haha! It has to ship for you on Tuesday! Just like mine should ship on Friday! :D...You got banned from the Dell website for bad use of passwords..OH MY! :p ;) :D kidding.

Roboform is supposed to be good..Yeah you have to watch that stuff when IMing, eh?? :p :D

Hey there! Wecome to NBR and to the forums! :D

There really are no *drawbacks* per se when ordering from the Outlet..Your getting just as good of a new Netbook/Laptop! :D

And, the shipping of your Laptop is amazingly so much faster than ordering new! If you were to order on Monday..there is a great, great chance of your having it by Friday! Another plus, like you mentioned ~ is excellent pricing!

Hope that helps! And, congrat's on your impending order! :D
