Yippie. Mine has been pushed back to tomorrow for delivery. It's been sitting out the truck, supposedly out for delivery, since Saturday.
Lucky me. Now I have two things to look forward to for tomorrow. I get my Mini, and I get to have my Wisdom Teeth yanked. Fun. -
Yep - don't you hate that... sitting on the truck usually means its on its way - I have never seen a "On truck for Delivery" that was not delivered... now having said that I have a seen a case or two where it was delivered to the wrong address but it was Delivered
DHL for me usually means it sits at the DHL office a day or 2 before it gets on a truck - gotta love 2 day service when it takes 5. -
Wisdom teeth, eh? All 4? Well, if your taking time off from work to recover from your W.Teeth being pulled...you get the chance to really get to know your I9 during that time. (when you are feeling up to par)!
Good luck on your surgery, and I hope your I9 arrives tomorrow

So, it's kind of a bitter-sweet day.
At this point, I haven't done anything with the machine. All I can say is, this thing looks pretty sweet. I really like the white. Of the three netbooks I've owned, I like the size and styling of this one the best. Once it's fully charged I'll throw out some opinions in the Official Inspiron Mini 9 thread.
So far. So good. -
(Oh lulz - sounds like a birthing annoucement)
Sounds like your doing ok from the surgery, thus far..just rest ALOT!
Soft ice cream and mashed potatoesmmm.
Anyways, I'm glad your liking it thus far!....And, yes be sure to let us know more once you *play* with it some more!

I have a complaint about the I9 - not really the unit itself. So, I thought I ordered it (promotion period) but apparently that order didn't go through but my other order with the exact same specs (with the exception of the I9) went through. I had 2 orders in the cart.
I contacted Dell and asked where it was. In any event, I called Dell 4 times to see if I can just pay for since it "disappeared" with the promotion. All the reps told me that I had to return my XPS (which I received only 1 week ago) and re-order.
Is that ridiculous or what? So I send back my system, wait for a refund to my account and reorder? What a waste of money, time, fuel - you name it. I don't get Dell and maybe my mindset is wrong but can someone explain the logic in that? -
Agreed its crazy... but its the DELL way. They have built an operation that can handle returns in an efficient and profitable way so they have no problems forcing a return versus allowing any changes.
Did you do the XPS and 99 mini deal? -
Yes, at least that is what I thought I did. In any event, I'm not going to worry about it. It's just wasteful to send a delivery truck to my house, wait for a refund, and build a brand new computer.
By that time, the $99 deal will have expired. Heck, I guess I could look at this way, I might have the new Montevino chipset but something tells me the video card will be the ATI 3400 series which from what I have learned here - isn't all that. -
Xcitado, I agree that Dell's policies about stuff like this go beyond ridiculous. My boss wanted me to order a laptop for her. She is partial to Dell, so when I saw the $99 bundle deal on the website, I decided that it was too good of a deal to pass up. She already has her XPS, but my Mini won't ship until 11/20 (as of now). I can't complain, since I am getting a deal, but I am leaving town for the week of Thanksgiving, and would have liked to be able to take the Mini with me.
I called Dell to see about upgrading the shipping to Next Day Air. This SHOULD BE a simple thing, right? They make a phone call, send an email, whatever, telling the people building it to stick a bright red UPS label on the box, and put the charge on my credit card. Nope, can't do something that simple. I would have to cancel the order, tell my boss she needs to send her laptop back (like that's going to happen), and reorder.
It's just unbelievable how screwed up most of Dell's 'customer service' departments are. -
I ordered a Studio 15 and Mini 9 as part of the bundle deal just a week ago. The Studio 15 shipped within a week, and the ESD for the mini 9 is about 1.5 weeks from the date of order (while the original ESD for the Studio 15 was 4 weeks from the date of order). So far, the Mini 9 is still "in production". I suspect the parts are backordered or there is high demand for the Mini 9. I heard rumors the Mini 12 will debut within a few weeks.
-
Did you order a black one or a white one? Supposedly, it has been taking longer to get black ones than white ones.
You should check out this thread. It shows you what to expect from each stage of production.
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=156489 -
I ordered a white one because the black one "may delay my ship date" according to the web site. I also wanted a white Mini 9 because my Studio 15 is going to be black.

Out of habit, I just looked at my order page, not expecting to see any change on a Sunday. But my status has changed from In Production to Shipped!!!
Order date: 11/5/08
Original ship date: 11/20/08
Revised ship date: 11/16/08
So I should have it in time for my Thanksgiving trip to TN!!!!!!!
Interestingly, when I call, the automated system tells me that my order has been placed in the hands of the shipper, but still gives a ship date of the 20th. -
Sometimes the online order status vs. automated system, are not in sync.
Give it a bit of time until both are *updated*, and then you should be good~!
BTW, you can call Dell, and ask for your Tracking Number for the shipment. They can give it to you, even though it's not showing up in the system. They did this for me!
Cin -
Thanks, if they don't have it on the web site when I get to work tomorrow, I will do that.
-
Cin -
The tracking number came up after I returned from lunch. No specified delivery date as of yet, but it is definitely in the FedEx system, having been picked up in Nashville this morning.
So FedEx is bringing my Mini from Tennessee to Florida, so that 3 or so days later I can take it back to Tennessee again! -
LOL...I like both the trips you both are going to be making! At least you will *finally* meet up!
Keep us posted!
Cin -
Well I won't have to worry about eating dinner tonight, since I had a healthy portion of crow, along with a side dish of humble pie today. Yesterday my FedEx tracking information still showed that they had not received my package from Dell. I called FedEx, and the person there promptly checked and confirmed that they had gotten instructions to prepare a shipping label, but did not yet have the box in hand.
To make a long story as short as possible, I spent a fair amount of time on the phone with 4 or 5 different people from Dell, none of whom would investigate the situation until at least 1 day after the expected arrival date. I was not at all happy, and while remaining courteous, made my feelings clear.
I got home last night, and proceeded to post a rather lengthy description of the experience as well as telling how, er, frustrated I was. Shortly afterward I clicked on my tracking number again (it had become an automated action, I feel like one of Pavlov's dogs), and lo and behold, my Mini's status had gone directly from waiting to pick up package, to arrived at FedEx in Orlando! It was FedEx's error, not Dell's.
I immediately came back here and deleted my post, crossing my fingers and hoping that no one had time to see it.
It arrived at work this afternoon, though not in time to play with it during lunch. I really haven't had time to do anything with it yet, but do have a couple of first impressions. It's certainly compact, lightweight enough, but with a certain amount of heft to imply sturdiness. The white finish helps to hide fingerprints, but they do show up on the smooth surface if you tilt it on an angle to the light. The screen has more real estate than I had expected, not having spent any time with a netbook beyond spending a few minutes at a couple of store displays.
I have what I would call a novices level of experience with Linux, so I look forward to playing around with this to see what it can do. I will probably put the full 2 gigs of RAM in and see if the current shipping version of Ubuntu recognizes it without having to apply a patch or recompile the kernel. -
That's hilarious, but only because I've been there. Karma has a way of kicking you in the butt sometimes, huh?
I didn't realize that you deleted your original post until you said it in your new post. I was sitting here thinking, "man, do we really need to rehash this?"
Anyway, I'm glad you got your Mini. Enjoy. It's a fun little machine. -
So, no worries at all..you were at that time upset with what was happening bet. Dell and FedEx...I call it *expressing* LOL...Expressing on Customer Service, etc.
Now, that you have it...just continue to get to know your I9 and enjoy it!
Congrat's on the final arrival, BTW

Thought id update my previous posts, finally got my correct colored (black) mini this week. Just happy it is all over! haha. Now i have the task of sending back 2 mini's. You would think it would be cheaper to make sure that Dell sent the right order the first time (since im guessing they will go to the "outlet"), but i guess they see it differently.
-
-
They both have the same specs. Win XP, 1 gb ram, 16gb SSD, no webcam or Bluetooth in Obsidian white. ( id post the service tags but i dont know if thats against the rules or a bad idea) We will see if they show up in the outlet. Hopefully they update the paperwork as both of my invoices show it as "obsidian black", yet they are white. ( so if someone receives one that said it was black but ended up white, it was probably mine
)

I can't believe you finally ordered the thing.
Congrats, Cin'. I'll be interested to here your opinions on your I9. -
It's a good thing, though!!! Since June I have been waiting for my red (Garnet)
And, yes plan on hearing my opinions once it arrives, and I have completely *owned it*!!!
Cin -
Update: Mine was supposed to ship today 12/10..it has been delayed til 12/19, now
Thanks Dell..you Rock!
Cin. -
Sorry to hear that you were hit with their shipment delay too. Thanks for all your advice in my thread and hopefully things will work out. (I think if you call them up, they will expedite your order a little bit for every instance that you mention "cancel"
)
-
I may mention that very word....
Cin -
-
I hope so too. *fingers crossed*
Cin -
I ordered my cherry red Mini on November 21 and am on my 1st delay notice with estimated shipping date of December 18th. This is the first time I've had to actually wait for any of my Dell's. Got all the accessories in the closet and just waitin'... It's frustrating but I'm hoping I'm getting closer to the top of the list...
-
-
Well looks like I joined the band wagon today. So here we go...ordered 12/13 shipment date 12/29
-
I hope we are not receiving the first batch of what is coming to be Dell's *momentous* delays
What color did you order???
Cin -
-
You ordered black..and still don't have it....That's too bad! For some reason I was thinking the delay was just affecting the other color choices.
Well, at least your mouse shipped, hopefully your I9 will follow soon!
Cin -
Mine gets shipped tomorrow!
i ordered it on the 3rd of Dec. -
Congrat's
What color did you order???
Cin -
I used my Stormtrooper-White Mini 9 for a business presentation. No one really noticed that it was 1/2 the size of the Latitudes or even asked me about it
It worked like a charm though. The VGA port sync'd with the projector and the battery life was more than enough to handle the briefing. I really dig the LED LCD though because it makes it feel very high quality. I am surprised Dell sold the Mini 9 to me for practically a song and dance when I bought it with the Studio 15. -
Update on my Red Mini Order Status:
Original ESD: 12/10/08
Order delayed: new ESD of: 12/19/08
This morning, on a whim I contacted Dell Customer Care and spoke with a new rep, asking about my order as it's been 17 days since the order was placed ~ and still in the Build stage.
He told me that my order was delayed due to the *keypad being on backorder* and they were waiting to here from the manufacturer when they would expect a new shipment.
And, I was asked to be patient...as with the holiday season ~ Dell has a enormous amount of orders to fulfill and they are overwhelmed.
Now, when I spoke with my original Sales Rep whom I placed my order with last week, he told me they didnt know why it was delayed! Same, with the Customer Care Rep that is supposedly watching my build. Again:They knew this information and shouldve told me this. It would've made me a bit understanding, then to find it out from another rep.
How patient should I be with the lack of internal coordination of information between departments. The lack of telling the customer what is actually going on, and the fact that others whom have ordered after I did..are receiving there I9's this week????
And, to ask a customer to be patient and understanding..because a large corporation like Dell cannot keep up with Holiday orders..simply astounds me.
I'm really not sure what I should do at this point.
Cin -
16gb ssd
1 gb ram
1.3mp camera
-
dang, i just checked my email and its now delayed!
-
Cin -
-
Ahh...is there anyone that can accept the delivery for you?
Cin -
Todays update:
I'm in the *boxing stage* Finally after 18 days, moved out of the *build stage*
I still show an ESD of 12/19.
It would be fantastic if it were sooner!
*crosses fingers*
