Oish...Push for that extra power cord...for sure..and I hope that it is ahead of the ESD...

Let us know the response when you hear back.... ;)

    Cin ;) :)

11/10...here's another  and :( from me....I can't wait to hear the results of your convo with Dell.

You have gone thru what, 5 ESD's now??

Again..sorry's for the both you, and all else going thru this!

If I would've ordered and been in the same position as you both...I don't know how well my patience level would be tolerant of the situation, by now....

    Cin ;) :)

I know it's a super bummer. The only reason i canceled it was to hopefully send dell a message. It's not like i don't want the little thing! I just don't want $500+ tied up for two **** months with nothing to show for it.

Okay, here is the status on my two (I'm racing them)

    Order #1: Black/1GB RAM/16GB SSD/1.3 Camera/No BT/Adobe 9.0
    Order Date: 09/11/2008
    Original ESD: 09/26/2008
    1st Revised ESD: 10/03/2008 - "expedited"
    2nd Revised ESD: 10/10/2008
    3rd Revised ESD: 11/06/2008
    Current Stage: Build

    Order #2: White/1GB RAM/16GB SSD/1.3 Camera/No BT/Adobe 8.1
    Order Date: 10/10/2008
    ESD: 11/10/2008
    Current Stage: Build

What I find fascinating is that the automated phone system has more detail about the second order than the first one does (i.e., confirming the 11/10 ship date). Go figure.....

This is just so frustrating and no one at Dell seems to be able/capable/or concerned enough to do anything about all of the issues that we've been having. If I hear "this is a mail order company, and that's how it's done" one more time, I'm gonna scream!

Wait a cotton picking minute...... (sorry, I'm from the South). If you order an identical unit to my first one right now, it has a ESD of 11/02/2008. Time for me to call Dell again I see. *sigh*

I ordered my Dell Mini 9 on Sept 6th, Pretty much the biggest SSD, Memory, Best Camera and Bluetooth.....It was said to ship Oct 15th, then delayed to the 22nd, got delayed to the 29th, then again to the Oct 6th, then to Today Oct 13th, and now November 10.....This is so frustrating you have no idea, they don't even help when you call.

I don't know what to do.

What's even more frustrating is the people that ordered it last week or 2 weeks ago are getting theirs already.

Cancel your order like I did. I had the same thing (biggest drive, bt, camera, next day shipping) and just decided to throw my money back into my savings account until they can get their crap together.

Posting in forums like this one about your frustration helps, but the big message is canceling the order in all honesty.

This is not a good thing ~ all these delay's happening even more to those that ordered back in September of all things :( :( :(

It would be nice if Dell released the factual reasons, but that is not going to happen.

For those hanging in there, I commend you all! ;)

Wow, DHL from Nevada to Washington is fast!

Looks like mine is a delivery vehicle right now. Should be here today.

Really bummed for you guys though. I just wish Dell wouldn't screw around. They should just be honest with why things aren't going out.

thanks for the advice, im very very tempted to cancel it but it was supposed to be a birthday gift for my g/f on 9/13 and shes now waited a month for it and is dieing to get it....she really wants it so im not sure if I should cancel it or not.

I think this is the nicest netbook but dell is retarded. im not sure if reordering with make it ship sooner or not but I don't want to take the chance of getting it delayed another 2 months.

    ahhh

EDIT: I just called dell to see what the big deal is and he said that there is short supply of the battery and he can't ship the laptop without the battery and I said then how come people that have ordered it in october already received theirs and he said i dont know what to tell you, i will put a note on your account to look into it. A.K.A nothing is going to happen.

Base Model Blac Mini, no options added

Hi there, updates about my order:
Called Dell.ca a week ago and they told me that my computer would be shipped out in 10 business days and I should get my computer on the 20th. Called today again to make sure everything is fine and they told me that my computer has been delayed again until the 4th November. I am so fed up with Dell, so I filed a complaint against Dell.ca to BBB. I encourage others to do the same. We'll see if Dell even care about BBB and their complaints, I willl keep you guys posted. Thanks.

that's funny... I think they are full of it. I just called today and asked why mine have been sitting for two weeks and they said they see no shortage of anything hardware-wise that would cause the delay.

I think they just make crap up as they go. One minute it's batteries, the next it's SSD's, the next it's only Black mini's....

somebody somewhere messed up big time with the estimates and the JIT delivery of parts.

Last I heard, Intel is having a hard time fulfilling all of their Atom orders due to the demand. This may be part of the problem. It could also be the way Dell does inventory since it operates on a just on time basis so it doesn't carry much backstock. The may have just been overwhelmed by the demand. The people you talk with who have very little idea regarding the hardware supply. They just say whatever to get you off the phone.

Wowsa! Yes, definitely keep us posted on this...That's pretty bad :(

I agree, I think it's a mixture of over-estimating, and production of parts, etc... :(

Just wanted to add my experience. Black XP Mini, no bt or camera. Ordered 9-25 and arrived today! Only thing is that I ordered a black one and it came in white. Dell said there was a 30 day backorder if i decided to try to get the right color . They must have underestimated the demands for this machine.

Well, I tried but I ordered on 9/14, o.g. ship date was 9/29, was delayed to 10/6, delayed again until today 10/13, checked my account and it was delayed again to 11/10, Order cancelled on 10/13.

I would have loved to own one, as I travel a lot BUT I can't wait any longer for this thing.

    CANCELLING MY ORDER

I first ordered a Dell inspiron mini (white cover, 16gb SSD, 1gb
DIMM, webcam, XP) on Sept 5 and my order has been continuously
delayed. First the order was cancelled (w/o notice) and I had to
reorder again on Sept 15. I now received email on the the
day of the estimated shipping date ***FOUR times*** that the
shipment is being delayed. The latest notice pushes the shipment back
1 month, from 10/13 to 11/10. I now have NO confidence in DELL on
their estimated shipping dates and their ability to deliver their mini. I
suspect that DELL and/or its suppliers are have credit problems and
    cannot secure parts.

    Here are the dates of the email messages from Dell;

Dell Confirmation email on Sep 5; Est. Ship Date 09/22/2008

Dell Confirmation email on Sep 15; Est. Ship Date 09/30/2008

Dell email on Sep 30 ; Revised Est. Ship Date 10/07/2008

Dell email on Oct 7; Revised Est. Ship Date 10/13/2008

Dell email on Oct 13 ; Revised Est. Ship Date 11/10/2008

After receiving the latest revised shipping date, I phoned Dell
today and asked about the delay and asked if
they can guarantee that if I wait another month that the
order is not further delayed. The Dell person said the
estimated shipping date depends on the warehouse and they
have no control on the actual shipping date.

I cannot tolerate being strung along any more and I have
cancelled my order. Note that I have ordered and used two
Dell laptops in previous years and never had such poor
    service.

I was just thinking that myself. I was just on the Dell Outlet and the website now indicates that the Dell Mini is one of the laptops that is sold via the Outlet. However, I didn't see any Minis available when I checked. I'm guessing if the outlet has any the Minis probably move very quickly.

Yeah, Saturday when I was playing with config's at the Outlet...I checked to see if the I9's were there yet. Of course, they weren't.

Yes, I agree they would move rather quickly if sold at the Outlet!!! As all those still being heldup w/delays..might decide to purchase from there! :)

The shipping is 2x faster with the Outlet notebooks vs. ordering new!!!

    Black/Ubuntu/1GB RAM/8GB SSD/No Camera/No Bluetooth

    Ordered: 9/4
    Delivered: Today (10/13).

Even though I got an email on 10/10 saying it would be delayed 1 week, I actually received it 2 days early. :D

To the Ubuntu users, please note! On my system it looks like it only has 4GB of space even though I ordered the 8GB SSD. That's because only 4GB is formatted for use (1 small, hidden Dell partition, 1 partition slightly under 4GB that the entire Linux file system resides in). I had no problems formatting and mounting the other 4GB for use.

DHL finally decided to update their system to show my Mini shipment beyond just the "shipment acknowledged" it has been showing since 12:00 a.m. Sunday. Unfortunately, it's gone to the wrong location. As of last night at 11:30 p.m., they had it in transit to Wilmington, OH, then "arrived at incorrect facility" at 1:02 a.m. this morning and sent on to the correct facility at 1:51 a.m. -- probably to cover up someone's stealing it out of the box! I don't believe I will ever see this. It obviously isn't going to be here today either.

Funny, I never paid any attention to when Mercury was retrograde before. I'm going to be watching for it next time just to see. My husband has had to repair 3 cars (some of them twice) and a washing machine, and I've had all of this trouble getting this computer. Thank goodness it's supposed to start getting back to normal tomorrow.

DELL HAS BOMBED ON THIS PRODUCT. I AM ABOUT TO REQUEST REFUND< BUT HAVE BEEN TOLD IT WILL TAKE 31 DAYS FOR A CREDIT TO MAKE IT TO MY CC. YOU GOTTA BE KIDDING ME!!!! THIS IS FIRST TIME I HAVE ORDERED DELL IN 7 YEARS AND WILL BE MY LAST.

    Original Order: 11:00am EST 9/4
    EDD: 9/18
    Received Original Mini: 9/23

Machine was delivered damaged by DHL, Dell issued new Order Number and machine went into Production where it has been ever since. It is now 10/17....

    Second order: 4:30pm EST, 9/23
EDD: 10/1 (Still showing this date as of 10/17, not updated)

5 phone calls and no one can tell me where my working machine is. I have been staring at a Mini with cracked screen for nearly a month now without even booting the thing up and it is killing me. When I call Dubi, they tell me that they can't see anything more than I can when I log in. One guy was extremely rude and was told on more than one occasion that Dell Dubi doesn't have supervisors, everyone is on same level when I ask to speak to someone who has answers.

Last Thursday when I asked for a refund and how long it would take, was told I have to wait until I receive my unit and then can request a return, after that it will be 31 days before my AMEX is credited. That is unacceptable... called two more times Friday and Saturday and was told I could go ahead and request a refund, with waiting for unit but would take 31 days (upto).... I have called AMEX instead and complained and am having an account manager look into... maybe AMEX can at least get a date for me.

Dang, you've figured out my outlet idea! I've been checking for it there as well. I'm guessing that there should be a supply soon because of those of us with 2 orders that are racing them. Also, I'm betting that the studio and now XPS orders that the mini was tagged to might start returning them as well.

What I find remarkable is that on the order status online for my first order (the 9/11/08 one with Adobe 9.0), it still shows a 9/26/08 ESD! What a joke!

If I hadn't become so flipping obsessed with this thing by now, I'd cancel both orders and skip merrily away, but now it's become the principal of the matter for me......

    Order #1: Black/1GB RAM/16GB SSD/1.3 Camera/No BT/Adobe 9.0
    Order Date: 09/11/2008
    Original ESD: 09/26/2008
    1st Revised ESD: 10/03/2008 - "expedited" - for what that's worth
    2nd Revised ESD: 10/09/2008
    3rd Revised ESD: 11/06/2008
    Current Stage: perpetual build

    Order #2: White/1GB RAM/16GB SSD/1.3 Camera/No BT/Adobe 8.1
    Order Date: 10/10/2008
    ESD: 11/10/2008
    Current Stage: Build

For those willing to wait for outlet units, there will be one more added to that inventory....

I called Dell again today, 8th and 9th time.... and cancelled my replacement and asked for a return shipping and authorization on my damaged unit.

Call number one, I cancelled the replacement and was told I needed to call back and speak to a manager to authorize the return, since one was not available at that time. I called back an hour later and had to stay on hold for 40 minutes, after spending 10min explaining my entire story all over again to another rep. Finally after 41 minutes I gave up and decided to try the email CS. I have since called AMEX and filed a claim with them and they have removed the original charge off my card.

I was really excited about the mini Dell, but this experience has turned me off of Dell. Customer service on more than one occasion out right lied to me; (had one rep early on tell me that Dell doesn't have managers, all CS reps are at same level and no one has any authority over another), and as a business owner I do not feel they put enough thought into the production of this device before the released it. They should have had a lot more units on hand before going live with the website, and releasing it. They should have also had a number of units around for instances like mine when original customers received damaged units. Also, if they had done a better job with packing the units I wouldn't have been here in the first place.

This whole experience was extremely disappointing... I had wanted a new machine for a trip I took last week, but obviously don't need it now. I will start shopping for an alternative now, but do not plan on shopping Dell again.

I doubt these canceled orders will go to the outlet. These configurations are so basic, they can re-assign them to existing orders with the same config very easily.

I'm hoping that two of the canceled orders will turn into my order and get shipped out!

I ordered a second mini earlier today. Just like the first order the ESD before purchase was 15 days from sale. As soon as it was paid for they added another 7 days. This would be much more palatable if they were honest from the start. Dont tell us it should be no more than 15 days and then add 7 more right after purchase. We all know where it goes from here.

This is certainly unethical if not illegal (can anyone confirm legality?) They know that there is no way these will ship out in 15 days let alone 30. Yet it is still prominently displayed on the front page and advertised all throughout their site, like it is something you can actually buy. I should be getting interest from Dell for holding my money for so long lol.

Just give us a straight up answer and ship them already.

I have been calling, and emailing dell and I get the same response. I have been posting complaints anywhere someone will listen. I think that we need to get the press attention on this and force them to do something. Help me make this known! Tell anyone who will listen, post reviews, call support, mail support, send messages to sites like engadget or gizmodo. This is a story worthy of publishing!

    viva la resistance!

I agree that canceled orders that have not shipped will probably be re-assigned to existing orders. However, I thought that orders that have reached customers and returned would have to go to the outlet -- assuming the returned Minis are in a condition where they can be resold or first refurbished and then resold.

However, I didn't make that distinction clear in my last message but in my head I was thinking that the returned Dell Minis would probably show up soon on the Dell Outlet.

Well if they do that with the mini there isn't any reason to not do that with any PON laptop, and it wouldn't take much to scan the system of orders and just resend them out. Maybe that's what they have been doing the the I13 since there aren't nearly as many options for it as other.

I've been reading this thread for a few days and decided to join. My bf actually bought me the mini for my bday :D , but after 2 weeks of waiting, he accidentally spilled the beans. :(

I called dell today and was told that my computer is only awaiting one final part, (a processor, i think), and that it would be shipped by 10/22 at the latest.

I asked her point blank how she knew that, and she said that there was only one part left and it should come in soon. I am hopeful, but extremely skeptical, esp. since 2 days ago they told my bf that they were waiting on a battery!! Wonder what excuse they will give me if i call again

    Date Ordered: 9/12
    Original Ship Date: 9/29
Altered Ship Date :10/22 (?) ... after 3 emails delaying the shipment

Can't wait for My Digital to get the 64GB SSD (MLC) in stock (due late October), so I can really use this thing.

Well i'm glad to see people from the 9/12 date starting to get theres... the waiting is killing me.

On a side note, i ordered the lil pink case for it yesterday, and today got a message saying it was shipped. Figures i'd have the case before I actually have something to put in it!

Yep, took just over a month. Seems to speed up as you go along, especially when I put my 8GB SDHC card in the slot and rerouted my Documents folder to that. That convinced me to decompressed the SSD but I did it without a clean install and some files were alerting that they were in use so a clean install is definitely in this ones future. It is a really nice unit. Much better quality that the Eee 701 I had early this year. I'm still pretty nervous with it. I would flat die if it quit working and I had to start over!

Thank you for starting this thread to give us all a place to vent. It's what got me through all of this. Now I have to start accumulating all the information I need to do my reinstall.

This is what I experienced on both of my orders as well. As soon as you check out they add 7 - 10 days to the ESD. This is my biggest problem with this whole mess. They tell you a reasonable 15 days and then once they get the money it immediately starts with the delays. If they would just tell you the truth from the get go I don't think people would be getting as fired up.

This is part of an email I got from my Account Manager late yesterday...

"So I did some digging regarding this order. And the holdup was occurring for a couple of reasons. We have two manufacturing plants making the minis now. One is going through a part shortage which is causing delays for the minis going through that facility. That would explain why some minis were being shipped before others. Another reason for the delay was because the mini that you ordered did not include a wireless card. Given that some motherboards are prebuilt with the wireless card your order fell on a big delay. So here is what I am going to do. I will move your order to another facility and try to get it rush built and see if I can airship it to you. The 17th deadline will be a tough one to meet but it’s worth a shot. Sorry about this entire delay I know it has been an unpleasant experience. I want to stress though that it is a very temporary problem and our lead times are getting smaller by the day and are set to normalize within a few weeks. I will keep you posted. Let me know if you need anything else[/I]

Not bad but what about my wireless card? I did order one. So then I got this message this morning...

I already added a card to the order and I am trying to move it to the other facility now I am also going to put a mad rush on the order to get it rolling right away. Will keep you posted on this.

I will keep you all posted as well...

    R.

    Order placed 9/17
Delivery date 10/6 Still shows 10/6 on Dells site...
