My order has been pushed back again. 10/22 is the new ESD. I'm just waiting for them to cancel my order. I have been asked if I would like my order canceled and reordered, but that doesn't really make any sense to me at this point. I'll report back in 1 week.
-
-
I hope all rolls out with the I9 like it should, and you get it soon!
Yes..keep us posted!
Cin
10/22 is next week!..how many revised ESD's have you had now??
I wouldn't cancel, either..it would probably take til Xmas to get to you then...
Please, keep us update!

well, no word from my reps in days.... my status is still "BUILD".
I was really hoping "Expedite" meant something, but in the world of DELL it means we just treat your order the same as everyone else, but keep telling you we're trying to rush it! -
As for the little pink case, I've had that, along with an external hard drive & an external optical drive (all bought specifically for this), since 9/16..... -
-
All sounds too familiar.
Mini 9 order placed 9-11-08 has had FOUR delayed notices. Current ship date 11-6-08. Global escalation Resolver won't email me or call back, she's always "away from her desk" Won't give me a new exec. resolver. At least 5 letters to Dell, (including to Michael himself!)... and still no luck, no firm ship date. They keep advertising! If you configure one now the ship date will be sooner than my ship date, (figure that one). If you have made a "transaction" with Dell and you feel they do not have supply on hand to support their continued advertisement, I believe you can file a complaint with your States Attorneys General Office. I filed a complaint with the BBB but given the lack of responses from Dell I doubt it will help. This is not the Dell I used to Know! -
I hope Dell won't go bankrupt because of the crises, or at least will send our minis before ...

Honestly, I actually think i'm gonna be pissed as hell looking at the empty case! COME ON DELL! -
So, glad I haven't ordered yet...I think I would've been bouncing between the walls...*more like slamming* by now
Cin -
Sent my rep an email today just to "check on things" and once again got her bounce back email that she is out of the office (the one that also lists an nonexistent 7 digit extension to boot). So, I called her at noon EDT and was told that she'd call me within 2 hours. It's 4.75 hours later and nuthin. The only time that I can seem to get any response from her is when I send yet another email through Dell's "unresolved issues" portal.
-
Not to pour salt in anyones wound, but I finally canceled my order and finally got return authorization for the damaged mini I ordered on 9/4. After a month (plus) w/o a working machine and having Dell CS outright lie to me I had to walk away....
...I ordered a Lenovo S10 Direct from Lenovo today at 1:00pm EST and got an email tonight at 7:15 that it had shipped. Now the question remains will it arrive in tact after my first experience with Dell? At keast someone has these babies in stock, or I got lucjy and ordereed mine the same day a big shippments from manufacturer came in. In reading forums Lenovo customers have had similar waits to those of us ordering the Dells -
Just when we thought it couldn't get any worse, tomorrow the mini is featured i Dell's 10 day sale!
http://www.dell.com/content/topics/...&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&dgc=EM&cid=36221&lid=901884 -
No offense, but the more cancellations the better... that means I'm more likely to get mine eventually. -
Why would they put the mini on sale when they cant even ship the ones they have.
-
so here's the latest on my 'expedited' order. My dell person emailed:
"There is a backlog on the build of the minis. I have expedited twice with the same response, delayed build time"
no duh, there's a backlog. I think I could have figured that out by now.
so I guess they have strung me along 5 of the 6 weeks, I might as well wait the 6th week for these. I wonder if they will even ship next week like they are supposed to? -
They increased the base price of a Mini with a 16GB SSD and 1.3MP Cam with 1GB Ram to $564.00 and after the *amazing* $80 discount, it ends up costing $484 before tax+shipping. I only paid $10 more for my Mini 9 with the exact same configuration. I did get free shipping due to the delays, but still -- this deal su*ks!
-
Is the shortage over?
Many people are complaining about Dell shipping delay, but I will get mine tomorrow after having only ordered it on October 8. That's a turnaround time of only 8 days, and for a Ubuntu system, too. I'm from Southern California, by the way.
I ordered alpine white, Ubuntu, 512MB RAM, 8GB SSD, bluetooth, 1.3MP camera, free next day shipping.
Here's the outline of my ordering process:
Date ordered: 10/8/08
Estimate shipping date: 11/13/08
Boxing stage: 10/13/08
Shipped: 10/15/08
Estimate delivery: 10/16/08
I'm keeping my finger cross for no dead pixel and hope Dell have shorted out the RAM limitation problem, so that I get a fully functional Ubuntu machine. Or else, I'll just install a regular Ubuntu 8.04.1 and hope I can find all the drivers. This will be my first Ubuntu machine after having wanting to install Ubuntu for a long time. I ordered this machine with Ubuntu so that I can get Ubuntu working out of the box. I guess Dell doesn't want to make it easy for me.
As for the 10 Day Deals, it's nothing spectacular. Supposedly, it has a discount of $80, but I couldn't quite figure it out. It's the same as the mid-range xp system with $25 discount, except it has 1GB instead of 512MB. That should be a discount of only $50 total, not $80. -
I noticed with the new 'Deal' on the mini effective today only, that you can now order an additional battery for $28.
I always like to have an extra battery, but I can not find just the battery, anywhere on Dell's web site.
The mini 9 battery Dell Part# is: 312-0831
If somebody finds a way to order an extra battery (without buying another mini) I would reslly appreciate an IM.
TIA. -
So it is a $53 off + Free 4GB SDHC. It doesn't beat the $65 of September especially if you don't need the SDHC card. -
-
I just canceled my windows dell mini order. I figured if I am going to be waiting for months I may as well get what I want. So I moved up from 512 to 1gb, 8gb to 16gb and got Ubuntu preinstalled. I was just going to format it and put Ubuntu on it anyway. After seeing everyone ordering a second mini and getting it before the first order I could not see waiting around for a system that was mostly what I want. The best part is the new system was only $10 more. I will keep everyone posted on the progress of my new order.
I also submitted a complaint to the BBB. Hopefully Dell will be more honest about their ESD. Probably not but it is worth a shot. -
I thought about doing the same.
I orignally ordered my mini with 1gb ram, XP, and 16gb ssd.
I realized that I should have ordered it with 512 since I'm going to add the 2gb anyway. XP doesn't matter, as I've got plenty of those laying around and I'm going to format and probably add XP Pro.
I could have saved a little bit by going with ubuntu and 512mb....
my ESD is mid week next week, so I'll see what happens. If mine actually enter boxing stage soon I'll just take those, but if there is a delay, I'll probably get another order going with ubuntu and less ram, and see which one gets here first. -
And they don't show the part number anywhere anymore.
I imagine that anybody who ordered a mini and selected the extra $28 battery, will never see there system (of course Dell will never tell them that, they will just keep extending the ESD, until they get disgusted and cancel). -
Ordered mine on 9/11. Was supposed to ship 9/25. Checked 9/25 and was pushed back until 10/2. Checked on 10/2 and pushed back again and so on. Today was ship date and sure enough, pushed ship date to 10/23.
I ordered another one last night. Changed it a bit and cost a little more. Will see which ships first. Did notice that Adobe 8.1 is on one ordered last night and Adobe 9.0 on first order. Curious about that.
Also got extra battery for $28 on order last night. When I check order status, it is a separate order for battery and external drive so I don't think they will hold up orders for that.
After I get my laptop, I'm going to do some getting even. I'm going to start placing orders and waiting a few days and then cancel them. Will cause them a lot of extra bookkeepping work. Let them see how it feels to get frustrated. Will make them build expensive PCs and then cancel. Revenge is so sweet. -
I am so frustrated at Dell!
I just called CS to see what my order status was, and they told me that "it is in production and is supposed to be shipped on the 20th", so i asked him how they knew it would be shipped, since every other order has been pushed back. He said:
"It is just an estimate, and WE HAVE NO WAY OF KNOWING WHEN YOUR PRODUCT WILL BE SHIPPED".
Forgive me, but this is the CRAPPIEST customer service I have ever recieved. EVER. "We don't know" is not an acceptable answer.
I really am thinking of having my bf cancel the order, and just get me something else for my bday... i mean, it was a MONTH AGO ayway... -
-
Just ordered my second mini, i convinced them to give me the same price as i paid for my first one since it shipped the wrong color (which im keeping now)
Order Date: 10-15
Estimated Ship date: Nov 6
My mini got its first real use today, while waiting for an oil change at the dealer. Glad they had free Wifi! -
Just ordered another one since it was in their 10 day sales special. Got more for cheaper. Salesperson took this order and said it would be faster by her doing it than me doing it online. We'll see. This is 3rd one I ordered. May keep 2 but for sure I'm cancelling one of them.

Has anyone else had the Service Tag number, as reported by the first-start software setup, be different than the one printed on the sticker on the bottom?
Mine are different, and when I go to Dell and enter the Service Tag number from the setup, it says I have a Inspiron 1510!?!?! and lists vista as the OS etc. -
I hope it gets to you quicker!
Cin -
Same here, and the one on the setup screen also came up as a 1510, although the dell support app shows the service tag listed on the bottom sticker. -
The support app on mine has the 1510 service tag.
I've bought 2 other laptops from Dell, and set several others up for friends (decrapifying them etc.) and I've never seen this before. -
-
Out of curiosity, what were the last 4 digits of the wrong service tag ? Mine was 5JC1 . -
-
Weird, martmann and I both had the same service tag show up in the setup screen. I wonder why that is. Not really a big deal since we get the correct service tag from the sticker but still an interesting coincidence.
-
sounds like they were all flashed the same and they forgot to update the service tag before they shipped.
-
Probably just some production screwup. I bet lots of people got the same numbers. -
I don't think mine are going to ship on time..... they are still in 'Build' as of 10:00am CST, which is about 11pm in Malaysia/China. So it's almost Sunday there. Mine are supposed to be here by Thursday I think. It needs to be in boxing real soon if they're going to make it.
-
I don't understand how people are ssing the "Boxing" stage on their order status... i only see "Received, Acknowledged, Confirmed, Shipped, Delivered"--not a very useful status bar at all!
When i got onto the site, it says "In Production", but thats it.
*Confused* -
This is the number: 1-800-433-9014 -
My guess is i'll get another email delaying the order this monday morning! *It's nice-- sets a GREAT tone for the rest of my week* -
I'm in the same boat. I expect to get another revised date on Wednesday, which would be the 4th.
-
Well I finally have movement on one of my orders. The first order which has Adobe 9.0 has moved from the build stage to the boxing stage. Interesting to see if it actually ships or gets canceled. Maybe Dell finally got the adobe 9.0 issue resolved.
On an unrelated note I saw that the Dell Outlet indicates that the Dell Mini will be "coming soon" to the outlet. If neither of my orders ships before Mini is offered at the outlet I might go that route instead, depending on the configuration etc..

I don't think i've ever dealt with anything as rediculous as this wait.
I mean, to put it in perspective, we all joined a "support group" because of this. THAT'S NOT NORMAL. I've never needed support for an online purchase in my life.
Ugghh. -
Oh wow, my first order is in the box stage, does that means it's close to shipping because the ESD is 11/10 :-( I want to get it, FAST.

You never know!
This is a nice thread to peruse...very helpful!

You may also want to call, speak to the Rep, and they can tell you where you order is sitting in the boxing stage!
Cin -
Since they are still quoting an 11/10 ship date, I'm betting mine is the first on the pallet waiting until its full.....
