Do you guys thing that cancelling my order (ordered 9.12, black, adobe 9.0) NOW, and ordering a white mini with the 8.1 adobe would be a good call?
What i'm seeing is that mine has been in the "build" stage well over a month, no movement, a bad adobe additon (9.0), and the lack of black covers. Supposedly, the white one would be estimated to ship on 11/5!!
Has anyone with WHITE minis, adobe 8.1 had there order delayed?
I need some good answers to make an educated decision!
-
I thought about doing this, but I want the black one and not the white. I came real close to just getting the white.... and if my black ones don't ship soon, I may have to think about it again. -
My first order was 9/11 and was the black on the Adobe 9.0. It is also still in build where I think that it will always stay until I cancel it. This is after they assured me that the Adobe wasn't an issue and that this unit was allegedly expedited.
My second order was 10/10 and is white with Adobe 8.1. It shipped yesterday and I am anxiously awaiting it even as I type. -
I would do the order a second one but don't cancel the first if you can swing it financially. That's what I did. Granted, a white laptop isn't my first choice and I'd rather have the black one, but I figured that a white one in my possession is much better than a black one in terminal build mode. Besides, the white one won't show fingerprints as badly
-
I actually LIKE the white one a lot... thing is my bf ordered this for me my my bday (which was 9.27)!! He feels so bad thats my present is already almost a month late, and I don't know how he'll feel about cancelling it.
I'm gonna try tho... the fact that some of you have recieved the white ones with 8.1 way before the black ones is definately a good arguement point! -
BTW, everyone on this thread rocks... you've all been really helpful!
-
At this point I'm tempted to order a second to see how much faster it would ship. -
congrats!
**** it, now I may have to order a white one!!!!Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -
The white isn't bad, once you get over the fact that it looks like a mac.

I just received a voice mail from the company's mailroom indicating that my first order, with Adobe 9.0, has arrived. Unfortunately, I am out of town on a trip and won't get a chance to see which version of adobe is installed until Friday evening (possibly Monday depending on if the plane lands on time or not).
I'm mentioning this because it appears, in my case at least, that the adobe 9.0 issue has been resolved.

My white one shipped today! (10/22) Ordered on 10/14. My black one ordered on the same day has not as of yet.
-
BTW, I have officially canceled my first order - the black Adobe 9.0 one. It wasn't even close to being ready to ship and was ordered on September 11. Perhaps it will show up on the outlet soon!
-
They are now officially on the outlet!!!! Of course, since I received mine today - murphy's law.
-
Tried to order from the outlet, but I keep getting an error saying the system is missing a warranty. *sigh*
-
Found one that had the options of warranty to select.
-
Just Stupid. -
-
Well, after I placed an order for a black one on the Outlet, I got an "Acknowledgment" email with NO order number. The website happily took my payment information.
I called DELL, their systems are down for maintenance for the next 4 hours. Currently 2:30pm EST.
So guess I will have to wait to cancel my first order. -
In my experience if you order before 3 PM EST it'll ship out that day. The warehouse is Tennessee so you can guage how quickly you'll get it. The Outlet has always been fast for me. I am surprised the Mini is already showing up there since they can't fulfill the current orders.
-
Well, I am betting with so many cancellations that is the reason. I know my black one I ordered is getting canceled (once I know I got the Outlet one) so that will add another to be sent to the Outlet.
Good to know the warehouse is in TN. Not too far from IN! -
I'd think if someone canceled due to the few configuration options on the Mini, Dell could just route it to one of the patiently waiting people. This really isn't going to make those who are waiting happy since you can get it quickly and for cheaper.
-
That was my thought exactly! And since these aren't refurbished units, you'd think Dell would push them back into their delivery line and make those of you (used to be us) who've been waiting since early September happy!
-
as long as it's new and never been delivered, send it to me. Just make sure it has the correct warranty period on it! -
Wouldn't make me happy either.
I wonder if Dell can't do it since technically it is not "New". The description on the Outlet indicates that is could have been delivered, just not necessarily. I don't know what the laws are in situations like this. -
I wouldn't have cared. Think of all the other things that you buy in a bricks and mortar store and you may have no idea if its been returned just because someone didn't want it.
-
How do you cancel an order ? Can you do it on the website ?
You have only 15 minutes to make an order on the outlet. and you need at least 15 minutes to contact somebody at Dell to cancel your order. -
-
there are 160 minis now available at the outlet. some are even white. What the heck is Dell thinking??????
At the very least, they could be offering everyone in the Adobe 9.0 debacle the option to purchase an outlet unit before it gets posted. There is absolutely no business sense at Dell anymore..... -
My email "acknowledgment" with no order number made me suspicious. I called and after getting to a 3rd person, found out the purchase number was created but the order was never placed.
Placing another order via the Outlet.
hmmm...just got another acknowledgment that did not have an order number.
Got a bad feeling about this. So far nothing has hit the credit card.
Going to have to order via the phone if this second attempt does not work. -
I am really tempted to save more than $30 at the outlet and get the Mini quicker but I wonder why do they precise "No WAN card Slot".
I took one with BlueTooth, WebCam and All at the MAX. -
I have not canceled my first order yet. Not too confident in what I am seeing thru ordering via the Outlet on the website.
-
I'm sure that's exactly what is shipping out to everyone right now.... just indicating that these don't have the wwan header soldered on the motherboard. -
I have just saved $43.34 by ordering at the outlet(no ESD yet) and canceling my previous order (ESD : 11/10/08 ).
I will receive the same NetBook certainly before.
I will keep you posted.
I hope I made the good choice. -
-
I just got home and there is a recorded message telling me that my order is delayed until 10/29. They were supposed to ship today.
-
what's the return policy on outlet items? I may just buy one to use until my 'cheaper' order arrives, then return the outlet one.
-
21 days to return it.
-
hmmm..... -
My experience in ordering from the Outlet website summarized. Call to place the order to know everything is working in a timely manner.
When you get an "acknowledgment" email, simply wait for the next email. I did not wait and called Customer Care. They were clueless. They informed me the order did not go through. What happens is that you get a Dell Purchase ID but then the Refurbish systems have to assign an order number. Customer Care cannot see that information.
I ended up ordering twice on the Outlet website. I spent an hour getting bounced around on the phone.
I have now received an order number (for one of my Outlet orders) and an ESD of 10/27 for the same unit (black with the works) I ordered on 10/14 with an ESD still of 11/12.
When I get an order number on the other Outlet order I will be canceling it. I will at the same time cancel my original order. -
ESD from the outlet 10/27/2008 which is 2 weeks before my previous ESD. I am glad I canceled and saved more than $40 for exactly the same product.
-
the issue is in the news...

I canceled my second mini and ordered through the outlet. $409 for Black,16gb, 1gb, bluetooth, and XP. No camera. Should be here next Tuesday. The Dell rep on the phone made it very clear that this is not a computer that can run office software. Its more like a cell phone. lol I was not going to argue with her.
Is this it? maybe... -
Thank you for the linky!
Cin
Congrat's, let us know once it's received
*checking out the outlet, now* lol...
Cin -
ESD 10/28 for my Outlet orders...both of them *sigh*. They ship fast so could not cancel the second one. Will now have to return one.
Canceled my original order that was still ESD of 11/12.
Can't run Office software yet it can run Windows Vista Home? Whatever. My expectations are basically that it is a typewriter with an internet connection. Will be loading Word 2003 since I can't stand 2007. -
I have seen reports of the Mini Running Vista Ultimate with full Aero Support.

Thanks for the link on the Vista install!

Dell is the most incompetent company I have ever dealt with...
Original order date 9/11/08, black mini, 1GB ram, 16GB hard drive, no camera
ESD #1 09/26/08
ESD #2 10/03/08
ESD #3 10/09/08
ESD #4 10/16/08
ESD #5 10/23/08
ESD #6 11/20/08
Estimated shipping date if I go online and try to order the exact same computer from dell today - 11/12/08
They are hopeless. -
I beg to differ. I loaded Office last night. Working fine and still have 10 gigs left on the hard drive.....
-
I ordered a second one October 10 and received it yesterday. I don't think that you will ever get this one. Have you checked out the outlet? I'm sure you can pick up the exact same one for cheaper and get it to you next week.
