    Well, it happened. I can't say I'm surprised. After reading everything you guys have said, when I got my email from Dell telling me that my order had been delayed, I pretty much expected it.

    I just received the email telling me that my order, that should have shipped out today, has been delayed. I was not given an explanation as to why. My estimated shipping date has now been moved back from 2/11 to 2/18.

    I guess it gives me a little piece of mind though. At least for the next week I can stop going nutty calling the status line and checking the online status every 20 minutes.

    I'm fortunate in that I have no real NEED for my 1640. I was simply buying it to have another gaming computer. I've just really been excited about getting it. I guess I'll just have to be patient. :(

    OMG, I am so jealous with you. Mine's still in testing and even if I keep calling every hour, the status still does not change. Keep us posted when you receive yours, I want to know the condition of the laptop (same as mine) being in testing stage for so long. congrats, now you can stop bragging...and I remain the only one that brags lolz

    well this sucks my package should have been shipped out 2 days ago but I just called Purolator and they said my package hasn't been scanned meaning it's still in Texas and they're waiting to fill up the truck before shipping it :(

    Yes, I am curious about the condition of the laptop, especially cosmetically. I have a camcorder that has great macro capability. Maybe I will record some closeup stuff if I find anything wrong. I hope I dont. If so, it goes back immediately.

    I got an email from Dell today stating the same. I just checked my order status (a few hours later than the email) and now it says shipped. I've always experienced receiving my Dell's a few days before they predict.

    It is currently backordered an it was when i ordered it so it should be here in around a week or two

    still have to carry this 13 pound inspiron + battery around school

    wlfng2005... I almost did the same thing yesterday. I was going to cancel and thought if it was a delay of parts like people are reporting then I wouldnt get it any faster but you never know.

    Something I did notice was that most everybody that had their orders shipped fast didnt have the P8600 2.4 Ghz Processor.

    People that did have this processor was delayed. Not really sure that was the case. Just my 2¢

    I am still in boxing stage right now. Hopefully it will arrive and all is well but they had it for a very long time and I hope nothing is wrong with it cosmetically.

    I'M GETTING EXCITED!!!

    Some questions...

    There has been a lot of talk about people receiving their SXPS without all of the software CDs. Is this happening to everyone. Is there anyone out there that actually received all of their software on CD without having to call Dell & request it?

    Also, I've seen tons of talk about tons of driver issues and people having to unstall 64 bit & install the 32 bit Vista. Is ANYONE out there NOT having these issues? In other words, is there anyone out there that is getting their machinge out of the box & it's running just fine (able to play games & everything? ie. World of Warcraft)?

    I chose the 3-5 day shipping also. My GUESS is that it will be UPS delivering it, but I'm not sure. Once I get a tracking number, if no one has answered yet, I'll let you know.

    Once that thing warms up, let me know how it goes. I'm curious (and worried) that I'm going to have to do lots of work to get it running right when I get mine. And that really stinks because unlike so many people here, I'm really NOT a tech savy person. I want to be able to pull it out of the box and GO.

    I'm a little aggravated already that Dell just doesn't see fit to include CDs for all the software anymore. ANNOYING...

    DHL went out of business for domestic service in most of U.S. right? I absolutely hate getting anything from DHL in the past. Everything I have received through them has been screwed up.

    Last year I got a birthday gift from my family that was ordered through dell. It was shipped through DHL. I was at work tracking the shipment and it showed somebody signed for it but I knew for a fact my wife wasnt home.

    I checked a little deeper and the signature was someone I didnt know. The driver after knocking on my door and realized nobody was home was walking back to his truck and someone was walking down the street in front of my house. He had them sign for it and he left it on my front porch.

    I did not even know that person whatsoever. What an idiot. I called from work and had them go pick it back up as I had no clue if that person was going to steal it or not. I did not know them at all. It was a camcorder so I didnt want to take any chances.

    Anyway, I hope it is UPS or someone more trustworthy.

    Dint receive any email from DELL . Called customer support, they have no idea why its delayed. Their exact words "Its in the LAST stages of shipping. It will take 4 business days to ship order out." If LAST stages take 4 days i wonder how long it take it build these products by DELL techs.. Not a very happy camper right now..

    I just got my tracking number. It looks as though mine is being shipped via FEDEX. I don't have any experience with FEDEX so I'm not sure if this is a good or bad thing. But...at least it is not DHL, right?

    My delivery date is 2/17. I can't wait!!!!

    I also ordered my new SXPS 1640 on the 12th. Unfortunately, I'm not lucky enough to have mine in the testing phase yet :( Mine is still "In Production" and when I call, they said it's in the "kitting stage".

    I ordered the P8700, 4GB Ram, RGBLED Screen, 256GB SSD, BluRay combo drive.

    Wish mine was moving along as quickly as yours!!

    After reading about the delivery problems in the US and seeing a 3 week delivery notice on the Dell UK site I was dreading having to wait weeks for my 1640. So needless to say I was shocked to find out it's being turned around in 6 days!

    Mine was delivered by FedEx today. I really looked it over well. Being stuck in testing for 11 days makes one think anything could happen cosmetically. Everything looked fine except two small dents in the leather trim but those massaged out ok.

    I had no issues with the reported BSOD's people are dealing with. It does have some bloatware installed but they can be removed.

    The RGB screen is impressive. As a photographer I had no intentions of using this laptop to edit photos but I may test a few with my lab and see how they turn out. My desktop is calibrated with my pro lab so I doubt I will use it much for that. But the colors are really good. It will make for excellent slide show presentations with clients.

    The glare takes a little to get used to. Wish they had a matte finish option or something.

    If I get time on Friday I may shoot some closeup video and put on YouTube.

    I also ordered the NoteBook Cooler to deal with any heat issues. It works very well.

    The Pelican case I ordered for this laptop fits perfectly. It has a fitted sleeve that the laptop goes in on the inside of the hardshell case. The hardshell case is a little overkill for day to day use but I will be taking this lappy on photoshoots and teathering it to my cameras so extra protection in the field is a must.

    Overall it is a great new laptop. But the customer service still stinks. lol.

    Vishnak, it looks like you got the one I returned. Mine arrived with a fine blue line running down the screen, it blue screened 50% of the time, and reboot wouldn't recover the system. Only a 'normal start' would boot it, sometimes. The 128G SSD only held 100G. Nightmare returning it.

    The new one that I got is running fine. My 128GB SSD seems to store more than the 100GB problem you had. I've got a C drive of 109GB and then a recovery drive of 9.99GB.

    This laptop is running much smoother than my first one. Don't know if its because of the SSD or if its because there is more of a gap between the vent and the screen than the first one had. Oh ya, I have no problems with my RGBLED or any BSODs. This laptop actually has less backlight bleed than the first one too.

    Has anyone had a problem as this,ordering the laptop on 1/30/09 and then days later..i dont know lets say the 15th when its supposed to have arrived,it still being in the putting together stage,and then..ohhh all the green arrows turn grey and at the bottom of the screen there is a new order number that is now in effect which means the production started all over from the 16th? anyone have this or only me lol.and apparently their reason was because they were missing parts they had to order,which i eventually found out it was the blu ray software !!!! yeeshh

    I'm kind of in the same situation as a lot of people it sounds like. My order was stuck in the "boxing" stage for the past 3 days, which seems "normal" according to the original post in this thread. However, I just called to talk to a rep to see if they have any other details for me and the rep told me my expected delivery has been pushed back to "on or before February 27th". On the website, it still shows an ESD of today and an expected delivery date of February 23rd. Now I kind of wish I wouldn't have paid the extra for overnight shipping :(

    The explanation for the delay was the "popularity of the ordered system".

    Ok funny thing happened a couple hours ago. I received the dreaded delayed order email. Then, I went to the website and it said "shipped" and had a tracking number. So I'm stoked now! But Dell's order status system is pretty screwed up!

    my sytem has just been shipped. I just called like 30 minutes ago and it said it was still in boxing stage then when I got home, i called again and it said it has shipped. Can't wait to get the tracking number :D.
    And like many others, my order was stuck in boxing stage for about 3 days before it got shipped out.

    HA! Caught you! You know your not supposed to do that..you know *check your order all the time* It's a sign of *I want my lappy, and I want it now* addiction. I think NBR has a support group for that! :p :rolleyes:

    Oh, and here's another way to track:
    Go to www.fedex.com; under the TRACK tab on the top, where the drop down menu is use: *track by reference*; Then enter in your Order number as the Reference Number; Enter in *USA*, then your Zip Code...and it should relay your standard tracking information! :D

    My laptop status changed to shipped today and it should be here tomorrow. I had it shipped to the office so I don't have to take the day off wait for it to arrive. WOO HOO!!!
