i ordered the dell studio 16 xps laptop from bestbuy on 2/10/09 ...
as of march 4th, it is still on backorder and NO-ONE at bestbuy
can tell me when it will ship, which, in my opinion, is no way to do business ... it's like they take relish in keeping their customers in the dark ... i am very frustated with them ... will this item ever ship ... i am tempted to cancel my order and take my business elsewhere ... any advice folks ?? thanks

 

i canceled my 1640 order and bought a hp in stock at best buy, works great

hp dv5-1235dx half the price good enough for what i really need

 

i ordered my 1640 on 3/2 and got a email last night saying it was shipped. should have it tuesday.

Now been pushed back to EDD 15/4 - without ANY information as to why

 

I've been in the boxing stage for two days now. I was all excited that mine was about to ship, but now I have no idea what's going on. Someone said that's par for the course, and they're shipping it somewhere closer to me to finish boxing...but I don't know how much weight to throw behind that.

The automated system says my system will ship on 4/13. The website says 4/20. I ordered on 3/22. Someone on the phone said I should have it within 2-3 days, but anyone else I've talked to has stayed fast on the 4/20 date.

My machine is finished...I just hope they don't hang onto it.

 

I'm in the same boat as you. I received an email from Dell (UK) today stating that my EDD has changed to the 14th from the 2nd.

The reason I was given was "Unfortunately, the demand for the product you have ordered has exceeded our forecast and we need to revise the estimated delivery date given when you placed the order."

I'm going to phone Dell tomorrow and find out whats up.

Your configuration is quite similar to mine except the CPU(P8600 for me) and HDD(320GB 7200RPM), i've sent an email to DELL if you are told what the delay is about please post it back here

 

This is getting ridiculous, this is the response i got from DELL Denmark as to why my order was delayed:

"We are having trouble tracking a lot of orders at the moment, that is why your delivery was postponed"

Come on..i'm close to cancelling this and bying a different laptop, i cannot believe that is the reason they gave me for the 14 day postponement. I don't believe them at any rate..

The response I got from the Dell UK sales rep was that they ran out of stock of the LCD's and are waiting for more to be delivered and that I might even be getting it earlier than 14th April.

I don't know, but I remain hopeful that they get stock in soon.

I don't think we can cancel the orders as we need to wait for the laptops to be delivered first.

Will keep you posted.

 

Thank you for the update that is more believable than the response i got. I actually think that we can cancel the order as long as it hasn't been shipped. But i will give it a chance to be delivered on the 15th.

No explanation. I talked to our corporate Dell rep to do some snooping and found out that they were out of the 235W PSUs for mine... maybe some of the delays are similar...

It is the service tag, but it doesn't work yet and will work in a couple of days.

 

I received an automated call from Dell this morning to arrange a delivery date of 8/4/09. I'm a little dissapointed. I thought it would arrive earlier. Nevertheless its still better than the 14th.

The delivery partner (Walsh Western/Syncreon) has told me that they can't make the delivery earlier because the laptop originates from Poland. This is in direct contradiction to the very specific email I got from the Dell UK (Indian call center) customer rep that said it is assembled in Limerick, Ireland.

I HATE INDIAN CALL CENTERS!!!

Anycase I hope the Polish have done a good job

Edit: I got a reply from the Dell UK sales rep. He said that the request/order was originally sent to Limerick but because the Limerick plant is in its final stages of closing the assembly of the laptop was moved to Dell's Polish plant.

 

Mine was built at Limerick, also confirmed by the T&T at Schenker that i got which said:

"Place of loading: Limerick"

Strange that yours was built at the polish plant as the orders were placed virtually at the same time.

 

Yes it is most perculiar. Who is T&T? Is it the delivery company?

 

t&t= track and trace number. Schenker is the delivery company. However they have yet to deliver it and it should have been here an hour ago at the latest..

Congratz! At least you were able to track the package. I'm getting an error when I try and check the package with Syncreon/Walsh Western's Track and Trace tool. It says my Order number does not match my Customer number.

 

I can track the order from the delivery parters website. It seems like to takes a while for it to be processed.

This is me, as you can see it was in Denmark on friday actually but they missed that delivery window and it went out on Monday....thats 24hrs Ireland-Denmark...

 

Yes its very puzzling. Maybe its because its a new factory? Or maybe I'm just not that important. My Service Tag is working now.

 

I just received my SXPS 16 and I must say its even better than what I was expecting. It's beautiful!!!. The display, the finish. Its stunning!.

From the moment I got it I popped in a blu-ray movie and I noticed the sound balance issues that others where experiencing and yes its to do with the internal "subwoofer"/third speaker placement. It's off-center but I think I can get used to it. One doesn't buy a laptop for its sound quality.

The only other issue that I have found was with the left-hand side hinge cover. Its seems to be sticking out a really. But again its a minor.

Well I'm reinstalling Vista Ultimate 64bit now so if I find any other issues I'll post it here.

I ordered mine through EPP on 4/3 and both the website and the automated orderstatus system say that i'm still in production. Same specs as yours, only with $49 blu-ray drive and P8600 CPU.

The 9-cell battery I ordered with it has been here since 4/7!

Estimated ship is 4/21, with delivery by 4/28

It's been so long since i ordered mine that I almost forgot about it!

 

Here's the latest on my SXPS16:

 

Since I ordered mine from EPP on 4/3, the base processor has gone up from the P8600 to the 8700 and the warranty has doubled to 2 years. The price is about the same though, even after adding the $49 blu-ray and adding the 5300 wifi module 9for the current EPP deal anyways).

My order has been in the build stage since ordering, and my estimated ship date is tomorrow, 4/21. If I do get an 'order delayed' email has Dell been known to compensate customers for taking forever and a day to deliver a laptop, especially if it is due to component shortages and delays on their part? Say, give me the extra year warranty for free to match their current offering?

 

Cool...As of this morning my SXPS16 is in the "Boxing Stage." Maybe it will really ship tomorrow after all!

My SXPS16 was ordered on 4/3 and was supposed to ship today, 4/21, but I checked the order status on dell's website and the estimated delivery date was changed from 4/28 to 5/8! That'll make it over a month's time from order to receipt of the laptop. Did they run out of parts or something?

 

I feel your pain. Mine was supposed to ship today, with an EDD of 4/29. Now the website is showing an EDD of 5/5. That stinks!

i think we ordered the same computer, i ordered during the xps event on 4/7, kind of late at night, was given an estimated ship date of 4/23, i have been watching your posts to see how yours is doing, as of this morning i am still stuck in the build stage. hopefully this will soon change.

 

Just called and spoke with a Dell rep. He gave me what I am sure is a standard line...the reason the order is delayed is because it is a very popular system and was offered at a very good price. He said they are having trouble keeping up with the demand.

One would think they would anticipate high demand when they put the system on special.

I asked if it was possible to expedite the shipping, but he said that wasn't possible. I know that he could have done so, but I would have had to argue with him, or ask to speak with his supervisor, but honestly, I didn't think it was worth the effort and aggravation.

I guess a year from now I won't be fretting about the extra week's time. Gotta keep things in perspective. That being said, I am getting a glimpse into why Dell has received such low marks in customer service satisfaction.

 

I will keep my fingers crossed.
I just called the 800 number and it still says mine is in the build stage, with an expected ship date of tomorrow. I know that when i bought it they said that was when it would ship, but i was optimistic it would arrive ahead of schedule.
What is now starting to frustrate me is the automated system telling me it is still planned to ship out tomorrow when it is clearly not ready. for 2 weeks i have been waiting and checking the 800 number for any updates. now i feel like a rube, like i've been getting the automated brushoff and didnt even know it.

i would be more patient with any delays if they were a little more forthcoming. I spoke to a dell rep 1 week ago and said that i had heard rumors of production delays, and was assured that there were no delays and my order should be ready as scheduled.

i really really want that 1080 screen, but am beginning to feel like i would have been better off feeding my instant gratification needs by purchasing an in stock brand from one of the local computer retailers.

as you said, in a year from now what will a few more days matter.

i just hope that's all it will be.

 

Now EDD is May 4. Moved up from May 5. Be thankful for small things!

 

i haven't received any official notice of a delay. ( no email anyway, and my est. ship date hasn't changed from the 23rd, nor my est. delivery date of the 30th) and when i call the 800 number i still get told it is in the build stage and should ship on the 23rd. so I guess we'll see in the morning, I heard they tend to update all of their automated information overnight.

i will have to call one of the dell reps, to see if i get the same line.

I ordered mine on April 7th and the EDD was April 29th. Now my EDD is May 5th, and the 800 order status number says "the order has been processed" only. It used to say that the order was in the build stage. I guess it just regressed! Another proof that you can't really trust what the 800 number tells you.
