Is it true that the order status line ( 800-283-2210 3,2,1,1) is updated only at midnight? Anyone has noticed an update of his status order during the day ?
But It could be midnight, but for which time zone? Texas?

at this point, I don't know what to do anymore...
the thing is that I can't find other laptops with similar specs and I missed the Envy 15 deal last month...
does anyone have a worse order situation than me? -
I've learned several things from this whole process.
1. Dell couldn't care less about me. No surprises there as they have a market cap of 28.8 billion, I ordered a single laptop, and their support staff can only follow flow charts.
2. Yelling and screaming won't get you anywhere. I tried it a few times to see if I could get results and all that happened was that I was hung up twice and transferred to the wrong department department twice.
3. Being calm got me more answers...even if they are the wrong ones. If someone doesn't know, ask for a supervisor or manager.
4. There are no other laptops that compare to the deal I got on this 1645. Similarly specced competitors either are much more expensive, have no blu-ray, or a much worst screen.
I have an ESD of 12/8 and can cancel at any time. If something better comes along, I'll get it. If not, just gotta wait. It's not an emergency, just hate being treated like . -
HP has 20% bing cashback as of now. I may end up waiting for dell to ship this one. I weighed all the options, and I don't like the idea of carrying around an external drive with the envy. One more thing to lose or drop.

Well I've just had the phone call to ask when I'd like it delivered so it should be arriving tomorrow morning which will mean it's taken 3 weeks and 1 day from order to delivery.
For the other UK customers on here waiting for theirs the tracker showed no changes until this morning and it shipped on Monday the 23rd.
I order computer kit all of the time but as this is for my own use I'm actually quite excited about getting it. -

No, only if it has been proven that is the problem (power supply) will anything be changed.
Some think its maybe a bios problem, possibly software. The first thing is to solve the problem. -

But I'm pretty sure they would rather save money, and delay customers like they've already done. I actually placed a new order today with the 20% bing cashback, and I will cancel my old order one once this goes into pre-production. I figure one more week of waiting is no harm since I'm getting a bluray burner and 6gb ram for a cheaper price than what I paid last week.

I ordered from India. It was supposed to come yesterday (i.e. 26th) but it never did. My dad called them up and they apologized and all and said it will come on Tuesday and you can have a free bluetooth headset for the troubles caused!

It says my order is "in production" on the web.. oddly the phone system say order was shipped on Nov 1st 1999 lol... -
I hope dell ups their production since its christmas. I'm pretty sure many ppl will order some as christmas gifts and will be pretty pissed if it doesnt arrive on time.

My order date of 11/13 went into the build stage the 11/23. And now has gone from build to boxing 11/27. with wled, 720qm, 250gb hd, 4gb ram, standard dvd drive
What about you jackertberry, you ordered the same date any updates?
I feel bad, i dont mean to stick it in the faces of those that ordered way before me. Id prefer ya guys would get it first its only fair. But maybe you can use information like this as ammo to the customer service reps. -
my order was never canceled by Dell, so once I got hold of a manager who kinda acknowledged the wifi problem (hope it's the only one), I decided to change the order. Now it seems like I'm in the back of the line, and of course he said he would "expedite" it...

I have been Work in progress since 11/11. Every time I call they say nothing wrong with the order and its gonna be delivered on time 12/4/09 which is next week.
Doesn't sound promising to me. Should I be concerned and keep on calling?? Doesnt seem like im getting any help from these people. -

and today also its status is "Work In Progress", I guess, this makes it clear that i wont be getting it on 2nd Dec..

I just hope that after all this wait they can send the 130W AC adapter instead of the 90W and fix all the problems of the CPU de-throttling.

if you call the 1 800 283 2210 number and put in the options 3 2 1 1 what does it say for you guys that are in "work in progress". probably pre-production
In the pre-production phase of ordering, orderstatus page would say in production and work in progress. The main dell page that you log your account into though would say pre-production. It would seem once your order starts production everything will basicly sync to "in production" and that telephone number will say that too but give the build stage. It took 10 days for my order to go in production, my order was basicly basic options, besides 1080p wled, 250gb hd, dvd drive etc. So perhaps there is a back order on somethings there and theyre shipping out in spurts. -
lol this is what the agent said after i verified the order during chat. I don't get why they outright lie. My EDD is 12/21.
Me: How long does it normally take to go in production?
Agent: Right now ...I see that the order maybe shipped out of Dell in less than 4/5 days -
Work in progress = pre-production. I've been in pre-production since the 10th. Original orer date was 10/9.

Mine now says shipped with a delivery date of 12/1. Original order was 10/20, canceled and fixed for the wireless card on 11/10 and at that time the EDD was 12/4. The really interesting thing is that the Dell rep that has been very diligent about keeping me updated on what is going on with my order is not the sales rep but rather a woman I talked to on 10/20 when I canceled my first order placed on 10/10 to change my order to include Windows 7. Since then she has been very good about contacting me with updates and responding to any questions I have had. She is the one that ended up contacting the sales rep about the wireless card after I asked her about it and had the sales rep contact me to fix the order. She actually called me the afternoon of the 25th to let me know it was about to be shipped and today the status page reflects that.
The sales rep did give me a no charge bump on the memory from 4 to 6GB. All said I am really looking forward to finally getting it, config below:

I've was waiting for them to realise and say hang on a minute but it looks like it's all gone through now so extra bonus.
As for the machine itself, I'm been using it over the past few hours and so far I'm pretty impressed.
It runs mildly warm but not that hot in my opinion and it's pretty pokey and should do what I need it for. The backlit keyboard is a nice touch.
I'm not massively into games but I've been running 3DMark and so far I don't seem to have the problem while running on the AC adapter. It's early days so far and I need to do some more testing.
All in all initial impressions are good and I would recommend it. -
my order is showing as shipped too, with an estimated delivery date of 12/3, which doesn't make sense since I'm supposed to have next day delivery.
My original order was 10/6 with an edd of 11/9. The day it was supposed to ship, they canceled my order. I had to call them to get a new order placed with an EDD of 12/2 and an estimated shipping date of 11/24. On 11/23, they changed my EDD to 12/8 a with no estimated shipping date. I called to find out what was going on, and the guy assured me that everything was still on schedule, but upgraded me to next day shipping anyway.
Hopefully I'll get it Monday, but I won't believe it has actually shipped until I get a working tracking number. -
I was checking to see the EDD if i was to put in a new order and noticed dell does not offer the X-FI sound option with the i7 anymore, you guys that have one shipping, i noticed some have it so its not causing a holdup. I just wonder why its not a option anymore.

Dang, what is it with the XPS and Dell's inability to keep the proper parts flowing in? I ordered a Studio 15 and a Studio XPS 16 on 11/17, and Dell already shipped the Studio 15. The XPS is "in production," and allegedly will arrive around 12/11.

considering it's just a software "upgrade" and nothing to do with the hardware, I think there's a good chance we did waste the money on it ($30 in my case). -

Mine just changed to shipped - EDD is Tuesday, 12/1. I also had next business day shipping. At this point, I'm just happy to see some progress.
