don't feel bad. I got sucked into thinking the X-fi was a upgraded "card" too.

yeah I thought it was a card too, but I ended up canceling my original order. Thats just a rip off, and they falsely disguise it as hardware, by putting that option with the sound card.

 

heh wow, wonder how many others though this too. oh well, should be an awesome laptop to last me years hopefully. what i keep reminding myself since the laptop itself seems really sweet.

 

I ordered on 11/8. Just changed from pre-production to production/build stage today. EDD is still 12/2

 

WoooHooo! according to 800-283-2210*3/2/1/1 my order is now in the boxing stage. I have never been this far before. its still saying ship date of 12-8 though. online still says in production.

 

Looks like the assembly line got some parts in today....
unfortunately none of mine...

Has anyone in india received the laptop. My EDD is 30 nov but order status shows work in progress. I hope it will get updated

 

SHIPPED

It seems most of us who had ordered cancelled automatically on the 16th (should now be renamed Dell Wifi Flop Day) are now getting our systems shipped. I have been watching and reading the posts about parts missing/ delays - my take THERE ARE NO SPECIFIC PARTS DELAYED - its all general backlog and screwups because people who were delayed due to wifi card are getting their laptops now with basic to more advanced config.

I like most have next day del. and am showing 2 days (Dec 1.) as the del. date. For those asking about the boxing stage (how long) mine was in it for about 4 1/2 days and I hear the norm is about 4 days in that stage.

I'm looking forward to it but hope there are no problems.

ALSO: for thos showing shipped but no tracking # go to view invoice, if you see a 'weighbill' number, go to fedex.com and enter it and you will see tracking info. Mine shows EDD of 12/02 but according to FEDEX has been picked up which means laptop is on the way!@@!!!!! - just a tip for those waiting for the order page to show a tracking #, no need to. AND MY EDD on Fedex is Monday Nov. 30th!!! by 3PM It was acutally picked up 9:30 AM Fri but Dell Shipped Email only came in a 6PM Friday
So Bonus, it should arrive Monday.

Do the days on the weekend count toward boxing time? Normally it appears boxing takes about 4 days. If a computer goes into boxing on Friday, will it usually then ship on Monday or Tuesday, or does the weekend not count?

 

We have the exact same config... mine shipped yesterday also.. cant wait!

 

FedEx is now saying that I will receive it Monday, which is next business day.

Anyone else who ordered in October still in pre-production?

 

My Fedex order is also scheduled for delivery on Monday before 3:00 PM. Assuming that everything arrives in working order, it's on to the next Dell screwup: the power adapter. Weeee...

Unless your order was recently (as in, a few days ago at most) recreated or they're having trouble authorizing your payment method, there's no reason you should still be in Pre-Production. I called up and spoke with a representative the one time I was in Pre-Production for more than a day, and it was promptly fixed for me. I'd call them angrily on Monday and get that straightened out ASAP.

 

I've called them 5 times in the past week. It's been in pre-production since the 10th.

 

I have been in pre-production since 11/11. Call so many times but nothing was done.

 

Mine has just shipped, after being in the boxing stage for 1-2 days.

Although boxing is sometimes luck in the queue, according to the order status post (as in when they group enough together for shipment). I find it hard to believe it got shipped half way around the world in a day.

Anyways should get it near/before december thats about 17 days from order to the door. It was just a basic build, w led, 720 qm, 4gb, 250gb, dvd drive, gloss black.

 

Excellent, that's a two-week turnaround time.

Mine said pre-production until yesterday when i got the shipping info..... Dells' status tools are as useless as the company its self. Just keep checking

 

I got a little confused here about what country you guys come from cause it would be different between countries about the progress.

Check the invoice online (order status page), look for a number where it says 'weighbill' throw that into fedex.com tracking, then you can feel better.

Nope. My original EDD was 26th November but my dad called them up on 26th and they said it will come on Tuesday. Hopefully it will come now!

 

i ordered on 26th nov EDD: 16th December... hope it comes fast becoz i ordered it through one of my cousin who is a dell employee on a high post (senior sales executive US region) & i managed to get 15% discount too.. and in India if you order by phone they say it'll take just 2 weeks to deleiver.. but i dono how come the EDD is so long when ordered thro one of the employees!!

Call lockout means that they are due to call you to arrange a delivery slot.
I had my call come through at almost the same time as you, 13.33 in fact (scary eh?)
The second line refers to the automated recorded message i.e press 1 for am delivery, press 2 for pm delivery etc (IVR) that is what you hear when they call you. You seem to have missed the call, I dont know if they will call you again or deliver anyway.
To be safe i'd call them up, or dell to get contact details for them.

 

Mine now says shipped online. phone number says it has been sent to the shipping service. but my waybill number won't work as a tracking number, idk whats up with that.

Well, after having cancelled my long-delayed October order, I bit and am back in the game again.

I was hoping to see special Cyber Monday pricing, but there weren't any for the 1645. It's the same price it's been for a while. Yet between the Bing 20% and the price changes and option changes since October, I'm saving $300 over my old order - AND getting 6GB RAM over the old 4GB, which is roughly equivalent to saving $600.

It also helped that it seems the Studio XPS 16's are finally being shipped to everyone now. Will see about getting the 130W power brick - hopefully soon Dell will ship those standard to avoid the well-documented under-fed 90W power supply problems.

My new EDD from tonight's order is 12/22.

Well see how this round goes...

Thanks to bing, I can now order an Alienware mx15 with almost identical specs as my Studio 1645, with an ESD for only 1 week later. The biggest differences are I go down to 250 gig HDD and I lose blu-ray (not a big deal as I have a PS3), but gain the vidia GTX 260M.

As noted, I've been stuck in pre-order hell and wifi snafus since early october. Should i make the switch?

 

Are you from India? The laptop I ordered should be coming tomorrow. Hopefully.

well, i just found out that the guy in india who said he was changing my shipping to next day didn't. Fedex is about as helpful as dell. Their system said my package was picked up on Friday, but shipped today (not quite sure how that works) and is supposed to be delivered on Wednesday.

I don't know whether to call and complain about being lied to again or to just be glad that it's really on its way finally.

The auto reorder lost my dell bluetooth mouse. I called several times and emailed about this. Finally one guy says he will get it for no extra charge.
