I meant to post all the details. Here they are, in no particular order:
Current Order Status: (Ordered 11/13)
...on Support: In Production (EDD of 12/9)
...on My Account: Pre-production (EDD of N/A)
...on Order Status: Work in Progress (EDD of N/A)
...via 1-800-433-9014: 1st call: "You have reched a non-working Dell number." 2nd call: "Your call cannot be completed at this time. Please try your call again later." Did this number die?
...via 1-800-283-2210 3,2,1,1: Currently has been processed and is in pre-production (EDD of 12/8)
I'm starting to wonder if this order is destined to failure. I didn't think that I'd be hoping for a laptop by Christmas. I hope it doesn't come to that.

@ jakertberry
There could still be hope for you. My details online and according to the phone numbers didn't change until about 5 days before I actually will receive the laptop. I don't have it yet but fedex is not dell so I expect to get it when fedex says which is tomorrow. they actually beat the last edd that they had given me by 9 days, although they are 19 days after my first edd.
@ pooter
I was in pre-production from the auto-reorder on 11/10 until 11/26 it changed to in-production. on 11/28 it changed to shipped, and I will receive it tomorrow. -
Anyone in India recieved a tracking number for their order? I haven't. I so hope it comes tomorrow!

But, as i started to type this post, my phone rang. . . it was the guy from dell who changed my shipping to next business day. He was calling to let me know that my order had shipped and would be getting here on Wednesday. When I asked what the deal was with shipping, he said that it was shipped next business day, but that they missed the cutoff for today.
I'm too sick of dealing with them to continue going back and forth when I know it won't get me anything, but the person at FedEx told me this morning that it had been shipped standard ground. FedEx's site says it was "picked up" on Friday at 9am, but "Shipment information sent to FedEx" today at 4:30am. That's an awfully early cutoff time for next day shippingHe also sent me an email asking me to reply when I get the computer so he "can be assured that this issue is resolved to your satisfaction."
anybody have any suggestions on how to use this as leverage to get something (credit, freebies, whatever) out of them? -
The plot thickens. A resolution specialist called and said that it was on "SCP hold." Funny how the 2 dozen other reps I talked to didn't see that.
Anywho, the hold, if you believe him, was removed, it was expedited...again...and I should see it out of pre-production by tomorrow (again). -
Maybe.. perhaps I should call them for the first time and ask them what's up? I'm sure they'll tell me that the EDD is still 8 days out and everything is OK...
(I'll let you know. Grats atlstang on your lappy! Give it a hug for me!!)
Call attempt #1: "Oh, that shouldn't still be in Pre-production. Let me check with the verifications department." [....30 seconds later...] <CALL DROPPED> -
-
OMG IT CHANGED TO IN PRODUCTION!!!
Shipping date hasn't changed though. Still...3 weeks in pre-production is ridiculous. Hours of phone calls just to get it canceled and re-ordered for the wifi. Probably twice as long to get the second order out of pre-production. Jesus. -
-
Its amazing that some lucky ones who ordered their systems in November are getting theirs before some of us who ordered back in October. Good for you
!
-
I called an hour back and was told there is a delay in some part, and they transferred me to the order modification line, and no one answered in 30min so I hung up. -
Well, if it makes you feel better, you ordered 2 weeks after me, but are scheduled to get it the day after me.
BTW, I'm still getting it shipped with Vista. Hah. Thank god I have a nice copy of Win7 Professional waiting to be installed. -
ONCE AGAIN DELL REPRESENTATIVES PROVED TO BE LAME.
BY THE WAY MY LAPTOP WAS DELAYED. I was suppose to get it tomorrow (Dec 1st) but the delivery date was is moved to Dec 8th. I could imagine how long the delay was going to be if I din't call. Now I'm even skeptical for this date.THIS IS ANNOYING AND RIDICULOUS. I HATE IT. THIS IS THE LAST TIME BUY DELL PRODUCT -
Yup, I was told the same thing while I was in pre-production, after talking to parts modification. They helped me get the wifi fixed, but not with this issue. Are you in pre-production or production?
To get the resolution specialist, I called up the sales agent I ordered it from (he saved me another $100 than the website) and asked to talked to a manager or res specialist (this past Friday) They finally called me back just now. If you got it from the website, call the main number, follow the prompts to order a new system, and explain your plight to the sales agent. They'll get you, eventually, to a specialist.
Anyway, I have the i7 720, rgb screen with black leather, blue tooth and bluray. If there are any parts that are back ordered, it'd be one of those I think. -
Glad you other guys that have been waiting are finally getting it through. Its more than likely worth the wait though, as its probably the nicest laptop ive ever had. Just unfortunate the support seems to be useless. -
I'm in pre-production. I only ordered a few days ago (see sig). I basically have the same specs as you, so I guess they were lying to me when they said a part is in backorder. I will call again and mention the SCP hold to see if thats holding me up. -
-
-
I'm on hold with a US based agent, and according to him, online orders have to be processed manually, and sometimes they get stuck in pre-production for weeks if no person processes it. He wants to place a new order, but my online order has 20% bing cashback. I'll update on the result.
-
I spoke with a representative who asked for my info, said that I shouldn't be in pre-production, and put me on hold. Moments later, she was back and told me I had to call the credit verification line at 1-866-383-4713.
So I call this number, wait ~20 minutes, then speak with a rep who tells me that there's no credit issues, and that the laptop is "in production" but missing parts and that the parts should be arriving in 3-5 days. I then confirmed with him that there were no credit issues (and he said there were none), and he assured me that the original shipping date of 11/8 was still on target.
I'll just sit tight until the 8th. If I'm then still in pre-production, then I'll start wasting more minutes on the phone with Dell. -
Both my original order and the re-order was placed with the help of an agent (part modification manager for the latter). So...yah. -
-
-
I guess I was in the same situation. The agent did that, and reassured me it was the same order number, but when I check it was a new order number. I ended up canceling it because most likely bing will not honor the 20% CB. I thought he was trying to get in on commission by placing a new order.
So yours really says in production, like on the phone? What stage are you in?
Does anyone know what a "pending" order means? I just placed one online, and when I type the purchase id and zip code in, all it says is pending with no other information. I am now regretting calling up for the previous pre-production order. -
Seriously, how stupid do they have to be to not even be able to tell you the status of an order.
My EDD right now is 12/3/2009 and I placed it on 11/9/2009. I'm not holding my breath. I suspect it'll get delayed based on everything I'm hearing. I have overnight shipping so it's supposed to be done on the 2nd and it still says "In Production" -
Ordered 10/22
Cancelled 11/13
New Order 11/16
EDD 12/14
UPDATED: Shipped 11/27
New EDD 11/30
UPDATE: Fedex can't find it, lost in Indianapolis on way to Michigan
EDD: Maybe tommorow, maybe day after....maybe if it is lost (trace, refund - re-order, March 2010)
I think we need to make an award for consolition price. Whoever take the longest with proof to get it should get $200 total ($5 each from everyone in this thread) then email that to the New York Times or PC Mag etc. that would get some headlines/dell's attention. -

Just place a order from dell canada a few hours ago
Order Date : 30/11/2009
Order Status: In Production
Estimated Ship Date: 25/12/2009
Estimated Delivery Date: 25/12/2009
My status was in production right from the start. Not sure what everyone else is talking about when they had a status pre production.
Also how can my delivery date be on the same day as my ship day? And I find it funny that this is happening on Christmas day. Unless dell's shipping department and the post office both decide to pull Ebenezer Scrooge and make their employees work during the holidays, I'll probably expect my laptop to come in Jan. -
You have to go to the "my account" page to see preproduction or call the order status line. The "order status' page online always shows in production, but thats false.

hey guys, this'll be my last post, mine arrived this morning, it took exactly two weeks, arrived dead on EDD, i reckon dell uk is running fine.
The laptops a beast runs cod4 at decent fps at around 8.3/10 settings, really pretty, quite heavy though
its worth the wait -
the status on the order status page is not the real status. You either have to call or look into the my account page.
-
I am now being told that the hold up for my system is the hard drive.
341-8989 500GB 7200RPM Free Fall Sensor Seagate Hard Drive
*sigh* -
maybe it can stop by and visit mine in toronto
-
If it make you feel better, I think they are full of (poop) when it comes to delays/shortages and just talking out their (hienies).
edit: Hey, I just realized this board has a profanity filter. -
How long did it take you to see the Dell 20% in your Bing cashback account?
So far it is showing no purchase activity despite buying the 1645 two days ago.
When do I get nervous. The Bing 20% cashback deal ends tomorrow. -
