Man, I hit the month waiting mark and it drove me to cancel. I can't believe some of you who ordered in October are still playing their game. Cancel already. Life is too short (and don't give them that kind of financial support).
-
MichaelKW,
Hope your enjoying your new Asus...
As for your advice.... I kinda do what i want. Thanks anyway!
Peace. -
-
Tenax... of course do what you want. But again, my advice is to cancel already as life is too short. Take it or leave it, as always. Its just advice (tinged with a bit of incredulity).
pooter03: Not sure what you mean about best components for the lowest price as I paid $1695.73 shipped to my door from Canada Computers - that included overnight shipping. For the Dell, shipped to my door (supposedly), I was being charged $1,747.42 (I couldn't justify the final $2,195.42 price to include the RGBLED, so my order was for the 945p WLED).
So, I paid $51.69 LESS than the Dell, but got the same i7-720QM, 16" chasis but IMPROVED specs by adding:
1) An Nvidia GTX 260M instead of Dell's ATI 4670... about a third faster than the Dell.
2) A higher resolution 1080p WLED screen at the same 15.6" of the Dell I ordered.
3) Working Internal Bluetooth (Dell said their Bluetooth was unavailable on the 1645 because it was incompatible with Win7.. yeah, right, since its installed and supported if bought in the US)
4) 2 internal HD bays instead of 1... filled with a total of 2x320MB or 640MB 7200RPM drives, instead of Dell's single 500MB.
5) 4 USB2 ports + eSATA instead of Dell's 3 USB2 + eSATA.
6) 2 full years of warranty instead of Dell's 1.
7) 1 year of accidental coverage instead of Dell's NONE.
8) A 120watt AC brick instead of Dell's paltry 90watt one.
9) A number pad included on the keyboard.
10) Overnight shipping.
edit: forgot to include the following two:
11) An included (and very high quality) notebook backpack.
12) An included 2000dpi Razer Copperhead mouse.

The only thing I miss about the Dell is the leather exterior and the longer battery life out of box. I'd wished to get the RGBLED as well, but at a $400 premium, I couldn't justify it. Instead, I bought a great 24" RGBLED for my desk when I do serious photo work, for under $300. After calibration, the Asus 1080p screen is more then decent enough for games, browsing, office apps, etc. The included 6cell battery only lasts 1:45 - 2:00 if screen brightness is at 60% so I'll definitely be getting the $130 9cell soon - that should give 2:30 - 3:00 at a higher brightness.
I guess I have Dell to thank in a way for pushing my hand. Ended up with a non-throttling GPU and better components - for less money and *NO* headaches.
But again, each to their own and I wish you the best in whatever you choose to do. Sincerely. -
I paid $1800 ($1692 before tax), including the blu ray, 1080p RGBLED, and 2 year accidental warrantee. They also slipped in next day shipping later. It was a great deal. I haven't been able to come close to it since. I had the HP Dv6t quad in a shopping card twice and the Asus once. In all cases it was lesser computer for more money. Worst screen, no blu ray, etc. Just couldn't go through with it.

Just got delayed now till 1-05-10.

Not to drag the discussion off topic, but my friend has a ASUS G51. He brought it over and we compared it to my SXPS 16. He is a pretty big gamer, so he definitely went with the faster GPU'd G51, but said my SXPS 16 was more sturdy and had a cleaner look.
I mean, do what you want, but IMO, side-by-side the SXPS 16 looks and feels better-built, thinner, and lighter. And those aren't my words, but my friend's.
These are strict differences between the laptops, so I'm not going to even touch personal reasons why someone would chose one over the other.
Just throwing that out there, a little devil's advocate for ya.

Easy for you to say, you already have it.
I really want the 1645. I can wait still. But if mine goes to January as well, that's going into 3 months after the order.
I'm going to go nag the resolution specialist some more. -
They have not offered me for compensation either. -
Nagging someone who can't do anything, but more than you is always satisfying.
~Ibrahim~
EDIT: Just a quick list....can someone post the LONGEST they've waited for an order? I would reckon the longest is at most 50 days. The ridiculous EDDs are always over-estimated; mine came in a full 20 days before when it was "supposed" to. -
-
I dont understand why dell has it when you buy the laptop today the ESD is 12/25, but the actual esd from people who have already ordered are well past that. That is false advertising.
-
Well calling Dell got me nowhere again. Knew it wouldn't. ESD is on Tuesday and I'm still in the build stage. Odds are I ain't seeing it til 2010.
-
Ordered mine over the phone on 1st December and was given a EDD of 8th January. But I just got an email saying it's been shipped and will arrive within 4 days!
Thanks must go to my Dell account manager who placed my order on high priority. -

. There's already too much misery and negative feelings with us others. I wonder what we'd get if we added up all the hours following up we spend checking up on our late orders? Never mind the mental and emotional anguish - lol. It must be staggering.
-
Update - 12/4/09 - 4th day of BOXING!!! Ughhh -- makes me wonder if it really is in boxing or not.
ESD is still 12/15/09
-
Be happy.
I'm still in Production and in Build Stage since at least 3 weeks now...
If I can move to boxing stage I'll be very happy.
Btw my EDD is still 12/10 on website and 12/09 on phoneline... -
ESD for mine is 12/25 (LOL) with an ESD of 1/3/05.
1645 base with only RGBLED and BD upgrades ($1500 shipped)
-
That is pretty bad. I wish we could make a chart, though, of everyone's wait times. From what I've seen, there are even some that took 15 days(!).
Good luck and, like your system, mine came with Vista. You'll be happy it did so when you get Win7, you can wipe out the ridiculous 86 processes Dell has running on Vista to begin with. Win7 takes maybe 45 minutes to install and about 45 more to install drivers/applications. Still, the time lost there is made up by the awesomeness of 7.

Well, my order went into "build phase" a few days before it was supposed to ship. This gave me hope. However, on the day it was due to ship I got the dreaded "order delayed" e-mail stating my new EDD was 1/5/2010.
Based on the issues people ore experiencing with the system running on AC power (Throttle Gate) I've gone ahead and canceled. Perhaps in a couple of months things will be ironed out and my patience will have paid off.
If only those Sagers weren't so damn huge/ugly I'd probably roll one of those right now.
Anyway, here's my time-line for anyone interested.
Ordered 10/22 (EDD of 11/14)
Canceled/Reordered 11/10 (Edd of 12/5)
Delayed 12/4 and finally canceled -

5300 wifi - 2 day delay -

Mine was ordered on 11/22 and is to be delivered on 12/7 (shipped out today supposedly). That will make 15 days. I'm a lucky one.

If it's the phoneline, it's sure that there is update not only at midnight like the previous theory said.Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -

Lucky guys. I have been delayed twice and it is supposed to come on the 9th now. Let's see what happens...
-
-
It showed online when I logged in. I just checked after being gone all evening and there is a tracking number with FEDEX and it said at 5:05 the info was sent to FEDEX. I had selected next business day delivery because there was no charge and if everything follows through as indicated, that will happen too.
Updated - 4:20 AM It was picked up in Nashville, TN at 3:36 PM so it is on its way for sure!
Now -- just keeping my fingers crossed for no deal pixels, no DOA, etc.
So . . . got the news today that my car I want was available for dealer swapping when it reached the port today and I should have it by the end of the week too!
This is going to be an awesome week -- car and new laptop - - and my son's wedding. I wonder when I'll sleep next week?
-
Wow. You lucky people. Though my order got cancelled this morning. Possibly a new one coming. They haven't called back as yet. Let's see what happens.
