I placed order with Dell Canada today, Dec. 11, 2009.
Order Status shows: In Production.
ETA is Jan. 13, 2010.
My experience in buying from Dell is that orders show as "In Production" instantly, immediately upon completing the order with an agent and paying with credit card. I even cancelled an order several days after it went "In Production". The agent told me that it had not begun manufacturing, so it seems that "In Production" really means "In Process" or "Order Placed".

Never can hurt to call and confirm the shipping address. -
Yeah, I'll call them later today - I wouldn't want them to ship my brand-new Studio XPS to the wrong address halfay across the state!
-
It's finally moved to boxing stage!!
This order is going faster than my first one.
Is this really, really going to happen?? After hopes being beaten down for so long, my head almost can't fathom the concept of actually seeing a shiny new laptop box on my doorstep. -
Good for you
!
Do you think that saturday and sunday are business days for the Dell factories ?
I mean, basically they are in Malaysia or India or Thailand or something like that. I don't think that they are closed or on hold during the week-end. -
I hope they work through the weekend... Even though it's only been a week since I ordered I'm still anxious to get my SXPS16 by the new year. I hope they pull through! -
How is it possible that people with the exact same builds as me are shipping while I am still in perpetual production?
Are the orders assigned to teams that may be slower than others or what? -
Edit: call 1-800-283-2210 options 3, 2, 1, 1 and see what it says. -
-
-
Maybe you have a screen color with or without leather that nobody have...

Just called, order went into Boxing.
This forum is like group therapy.... -
Yeah, I ordered mine on 9/25 and people who ordered in early October got their machines before I did, even with pretty close builds.
Some people's machines just happen to ship sooner...I wish I knew why, lol!

Well, for those of us who are now in the stage - there is no such thing as a 2-week boxing stage............is there???
-
-
No actually the boxing stage takes about 3-4 business days.
It's the time that your laptop comes from the factory ( thailand, china or other) to Dell in the US. Then they unbox the laptop and put it in his real box with all accessories and advertisings, and give it to the carrier.
It takes 3 to 6 days to do this. -
Hmm, I just checked the website and I was upgraded to 'Shipped':
Shipping Method: Next Business Day
Shipped Date: Data Temporarily Unavailable
Estimated Delivery Date: 12/30/2009
Carrier: Data Temporarily Unavailable
Tracking Number: Data Temporarily Unavailable
We'll see..... -

Order Date: 12/5/2009
In-Production: 12/5/2009
Boxing Stage: 12/8/2009
SHIPPED: 12/13/2009
I ordered 3-5 day shipping so hopefully i get it by the end of this week.
Honestly, I was a little bit worried ordering the notebook especially because there were so many complaints about delays and cancellations, but i guess i ordered at the right time. =) -
I ordered on 12/07 - does this mean I'm next in the mystical "Dell cue?" I can only hope...
EDIT: still in the build stage... -
Cool, a lot of i7 820 have been shipped, maybe they had a big delivery.
Good for me too -
Did you guys get a tracking number? Mine says Data Temporarily Unavailable on the website. I guess I just have to be patient a couple of days longer.

The last system I ordered about 3 years ago wend from Build to Shipped on one day.
Wishful thinking here I suppose. -
If its a regular configuration, they have a lot of stock.
You can see the FastTrack collection of laptops on the Dell website. -
-
I discovered it when mine was shipping. Pffft, "no tracking information available."

I ordered one of these for my wife for Christmas with white leather and the 16 rgbled screen on 10-14, it was canceled by dell on 11-14, reordered on 11-14 with an ESD of 12-14, got an email this morning telling me the order has been delayed with a new ship date of 01-08. I called the number someone here suggested and it says it is in boxing status. I've read on here that this can take up to 3 weeks or as short as 3 days. Should I call and see if I can get the order expedited or email [email protected]?
-
Email Michael Dell and call them.
Btw, what is your core model? Do you have x-fi soundcard?
Thks. -
720qm core and yes to x-fi soundcard

I can't remember which page on this thread it was, but I thought someone mentioned that there order was in boxing for 3 weeks. I could be wrong. I hope you are right about 5 days at the most.
-
I went from boxing to shipped in 2 days. I am not sure why it was relatively quick. There are so many things going on in the background that we are not privy to so it is a mystery why some orders go fast and some don't. I hope all orders from now on go just as fast or faster. We don't need this added stress for the holidays. Good luck!
-
How long have u been in the Production stage ?
-
- 12-6 - cancel/re-order
- 12/6 - In Production (about 5 days)

In-Production: 12/11/2009
Boxing Stage: TBD
SHIPPED: TBD

I ordered the base 1645 with the RGBLED screen and no other modifications in the gloss black finish. I gotta say, this thread is a bit concerning...seeing how some people wait for nearly two months while others wait just a couple of weeks. Seems to be no rhyme or reason. -
-
I nearly canceled my order when I saw that the EDD was a month away. Nothing takes the excitement away from a purchase like having to wait a month.
-
-
I'm still in the Build stage !! Arg I'm wondering if one day I will go through this step !
-
It is here. Thank you, Santa!
-
I ordered a Dell Studio XPS and display reads "320-8335 1 Premium FHD WLED Display, Obsidian Black, 2.0 MP Webcam".
Is this the RGB monitor?
