In Production 12/6 - 12/12-> The day I called to ask why the exact same build with 8GB Ram set up 6 days later was 4 dollars LESS. I got jumped around for about 30 min. Finally talked to someone(sales) who spoke English well and tried to help. She told me not much could be done, except maybe cancel. She said she would transfer me to customer care. When I get to customer care the guy tells me customer care is closed for the evening (7 on weekends).

12/12 When I checked again after phone call says "Delivery Preparation" - 12/15

12/15 In the morning said DP, but @ 4 pm said shipped.

I've been very lucky I think*knock on wood* Only problem now is the tracking # doesn't work...

 

My order was placed on 12/8 and was originally supposed to ship 12/14 but is now supposed to ship 1/5. The phone order status changes constantly. Is there another way to check the order status? I really hope this computer comes soon

Yes I can on there but it just says in production like it has since the order was placed. It doesn't give any info. Every time I call the phone order status the estimated ship date changes.

 

I ordered 2 laptops and have shipping info for both! They should be here in a couple of days.

 

I ordered mine on 10/12, then the rep told me wifi card is defetive and re enter a new order on 11/23/2009

But it's still in process.

 

Day 3 of boxing. We'll see what happens tomorrow.....

called on 11/29 Customer service rep told me that the burning software was discontinued. and canceled the order and opened and new order stating 12/14 ship date.

I did not wait around but canceled the order and went to best buy and pickep up the hp envy that night. even saved $800 in the process and I have 12gb ram.

I wish dell would just be more honest about how popular these laptops are and how hard it is to get the products in place to put them together.

I have the exact same dates. I am wondering how they are going to ship our systems by this Friday if they are still in production today.

 

For me, the phone thing sometimes sends me to the wrong section of customer service and I have to redial... My E.D.D. is 01/09 and I ordered on 12/07. When I built it it said estimated ship date Dec. 28, but that changed after I placed the order. I wish they'd be more consistent.

 

I got exactly the same think except instead of the ssd i got the 500gb drive and for your windows ultimate i got the home premium... I dont see it coming on the 21st

 

Let's hope Dell can get it into gear.

 

I called my Sales representative to get more information why my order is still in production and Build Stage and he told me that there is still a part shortage of the i7 processor (and specially the 820QM).


We have to crossed our fingers and pray for Intel now...

 

Great, you must have gotten a non-retarded rep. My rep today acted like I was still on schedule for a December 18th ship date.

 

I would be surprised if they made that date. That's cool, I guess, as Dell already delivered the Studio 15 I bought for my son, and that is what really matters. Dad can wait if he needs to.=)

I just called the Dell status number and it still claims that my system will ship on the 18th. We'll see....

Interesting day.

Woke up to receiving the Dell email stating that my system was delayed and that the new EDD was 12/22. I knew I was already in the boxing stage and had to be close. My original EDD was 12/16 - today. I was kind of bummed, but accepted the situation. I was bummed that I was not going to be here next week to take delivery - but fortunately some house guests would be here to accept the shipment.

Then, I check the system today to see a FedEx shipping confirmation with a delivery date of tomorrow!

Interesting day...

 

there is no way its arriving, they usually take 2-3 days just for the boxing stage, at least that's what happened with my brothers xps 1640 and i wanted to leave town on the 22nd and now i cant due to the laptop calling a rep will be pointless i bet they will just say that it is on time and in case of a delay they will notify me with an email

 

Dell site is showing my order status as "Work in progress". What does that mean? any idea. Usuall for how many days does it take to change from this status to manufacturing build complete status??

Which screen is it? RGBLED or WLED?

 

Dell is still toying with me. The site claims my system will ship tomorrow, but it is still "in production." I fully expect to get an email tomorrow telling me that my system is delayed.

 

i called them today asking because i wanted to leave town or else i have to send it somewhere else but she still affirmed that it would be shipped tomorrow but i think everyone knows that is not going to happen

 

I am in the same boat with you guys. Mine was supposed to ship the 14th but now says the 18th. It says that it is still in the build stage so I'm not very hopeful that it will ship tomorrow. But I have had them ship before with out ever going to the boxing stage. Peste19 looks like you and I have identical computers coming expect the processor. Im hoping it ships tomorrow so I can get it monday.

Can't say why my order is already shipped. My configuration was a standard offer, besides the WLAN adapter, which i choosed because the standard one didn't support n-draft. I am pretty surprised

The day I ordered, there weren't many options to change anymore, there was only 1 screen option the RGBLED. and I opted for Blu-ray and Win7 Ultimate, sound blaster was standard and the 9-cell was standard too.

Yesterday, my SR told me that there is a part shortage on the i7 processor (and specially the 820). Now, due to an email sent to michael_dell, another SR told me this :

I can't do business with people like that! I'm so upset right now... hummm

A part shortage on W7? ahah LOL

 

The electronic lady is still saying my system will ship tomorrow. Dubious at best....

 

My system arrived today. Was a miracle. Had to leave the garage door open for the FedEx guy to leave it inside. He was kind enough to shut the door behind him.

Using the laptop now. Only thing I noticed was that the front left corner was not perfectly level and has some space between it and the table. I think that it will go away with the weight of my wrist in a few days.

Perhaps because the laptop was in 30 degree temps for about 5 hours...

 

Know the problem I have with the whole Dell ordering process?

It's such an ordeal from start to finish that you're relieved when you get the item, instead of excited. The whole process seems to sap some of the joy one should feel when you treat yourself to an item like this. I've only been in this for a week and I'm already feeling it. It's a bit of a bummer.

 

Man, I know how it goes... I wish they could give a "percent finished" instead of that vague "in production" crap...

 

Bought mine on 11/27 as well, my status online is "In Production" and on the phone "Being Processed". EDD is also 12/21 with next business day.

what are your specs? dont get your hopes up, i have a xps 1640 come last week and it took 2-36 days to prepare to shipping to actually ship it out

Still holding out hope that it'll get here sometime next week.

 

I am convinced that delivery times are not only tied to macro level delays, but I think that there must be some element of productivity that drills down to the specific team that gets your order.

Why else would we see such random deliveries out of order? Some assembly teams must take longer than others.

Okay, the idiot Indian lady at Dell customer disservice just told me that my order is delayed until at least December 30th. I asked her whether Dell had planned to actually notify me of that development (instead of me having to call and extract the info), and she said that I could have just checked the online status. This, of course, comes after I already told her that the online status says my system is shipping today. I hate this off-shoring crap. They can barely speak English and read from scripts the whole time.

I found a brand new HP Envy 15 for sale locally for ~500 off. The more stories I read on here, the more I'm debating buying that one.

 

Well that sucks, looks like I'm probably gonna blow through my entire vacation without my new laptop. Of course the order status site still dutifully says 12/21 as EDD. At least they're consistent.

 

If any of you guys are are waiting for one with a blue-ray player or burner, dell has pull those options from the order page on their website. It might add some time to your orders.

Mine was supposed to ship today but is now listed as shipping on monday the 21st.
