I've been following this thread pretty closely and have been making daily calls to Dell. I have had the most success for getting info (not getting freebies) by calling (800) 247-2076 and then choosing Option 2. I give them my number, ask them to check on my computer and notify me if any parts are being delayed or not working properly. I sit on hold and normally get some sort of info... Who knows if it's real info or not.
Here's what I ordered:
Dell Studio XPS 1645 w/i7-720QM, 4GB Ram, Full HD WLED Display, 500Gb Seagate Drive, Blu-ray Combo Drive...
I was told yesterday by this department that my order had a 15 day delay due to parts. Today I called to find out what parts. They informed me the current delay was due to "313-7056 BluRay Combo Drive". But they now have them in stock, along with all other parts, and should begin building.
We shall see... -
So, we were one of the "lucky" ones to have our order cancelled 10 days before it's EDD of 11/20. My wife and I gave them hell for two days before getting a thundersex deal...

All Orders Placed Before Nov 2nd are BAD
The manager I was working with did some digging, and found that even though my order was made after they visually fixed the Wi-Fi part number, their back end system showed it still as an illegal part number. It was never in the "Build" stage in their system, even though it showed Build on the phone, The Assembly line never got the order. Dell customer disservice would have kept me twiddling my thumbs... this is why people that ordered on Nov2 and after already got their computers.

You can always have David check it, it doesn’t hurt, from what he told me he found that this was affecting orders from Nov 1st and sooner, I was told they did an update to their system on Nov 2nd, so the order could have been placed before the update.

I hope you are well. I ordered a Dell XPS Studio 1645 on 10/22. The EDD was 11/16 (almost a month). I was patient with this, however, when I called on 11/13 (few days before EDD) a rep told me it was ‘delayed one more week....sorry etc.’ So, I checked again on Monday 11/16 my original EDD to follow the status online. The order was cancelled and replaced with a new EDD of 12/14. I spoke to a rep and a supervisor (obviously a call centre in India/mexico), they are well-trained to deflect and divert but do not have any capacity for change, this is why I’m contacting you.
To summarise:
Ordered: 10/22
EDD: 11/16
New EDD: 12/14

When I spoke to a rep, they said A) it may come in a week...but we arn’t allowed to guarantee it B) You have next day delivery now (had it on the first order anyway!) C) we’re very sorry, it is a wonky wifi card which failed lab tests with Windows 7 that is the problem
Let me cut to the chase....
1) It is illegal to my knowledge for Dell to cancel my order, submit a new order (without contacting me), push money back to my paypal, extract again etc. Not legal to make a new order without my consent – according to the better business bureau
2) Dell messed up, not me, the customer, If I was $100 short on my order, Dell wouldn’t help me, so when the shoe is on the other foot, I deserve some compensation – it is completely unacceptable to simply say sorry, wait another month buddy to a new Dell customer...before purchasing the XPS 1645, all reviews were good BUT it was all over in the web, that Dell has bad EDD, cancels orders and re-enters them causing massive delays...still in good faith. I went ahead – There is no way I should not cancel all business with Dell except that I be compensated somehow with a hardware upgrade (ram or processor) for my trouble – tell me why I should not cancel the order and get a HP HDX in 2 weeks on a CFO (I’m a current HP customer, this is my first time with Dell, what a disheartening exp.)
3) I just bought a DELL XPS STUDIO desktop too....to add more insult, look at my trust in Dell and how they treat me back? See attached receipt
4) My order like most ordered in late Oct have been automatically cancelled and re-submitted as new orders due to the faulty wifi card issue, people who ordered in Nov have already got their laptops, so we have been pushed to the back whilst newer orders have been given priority and are being BSed by support reps about the delay
I need someone to call me and confirm that I’m going to get some compensation or upgrades or I will cancel the order and go HP (shouldn’t have left HP), others have gotten these upgrades and so they should, the way Dell has handled this is terrible and shows no care for their customers. A) I want compensation/upgrades for my trouble
B) My order to be ‘truly expedited’ and made within a week, not Oct – Dec
If I get no response, I will understand that to mean Dell doesn’t give a damn and I will cancel. If you address it well, I will post positive feedback in the thread above and give you guys some good reports and restore trust. I’ll call it and blog it how I see it. Please don’t respond with apologies or excuses, I’m 100% informed on what’s going on, the part problem, the screw up, the truth, the lies all of it.

Are any of these getting here fast with the RGBLED and Blu-Ray burner? My EDD is 12/8 and it makes me sad to see me getting it so late, especially when my first order was placed 10/14

It says 11/13 for the new order creation (last friday). Dave said he will call me and help me out! -
But I still don't understand why a lot of people here, with quasi similar configuration system, have already received their laptops or they are shipped :/ -
The simplest way to put it, even though on our end the part looks correct, on the back end the part number is still screwed up in dells database, this part number was only fixed on the 2nd of Nov. -
Anyone familiar with the HP dv6t? My order is still in pre-production and I'm now 1.5 months in.
I can get a similarly configured dv6t quad for $300 less. The only thing I give up is the RGBLED screen -

I also called (800) 247-2076 and then chose Option 2. They said my order wasn't just in the building stage, but the final building stage. Whatever that means.
My order was placed on 28 Oct, so either Mr Bowman did not notice that my order was not on the assembly line because he didn't research it, my order was fixed when I talked to someone yesterday, or not all orders placed before Nov 2 are bad. My order is supposed to ship tomorrow, so I am guessing that I will get some sort of delay even though everyone I talk to says it will ship on time. -
Pooter you need to call and get Dell moving. I finally did on 11/11 and my new order is in the build stage. If you dont take care of it don't hold your breath for Dell to do it, they're useless.
It's simple, and it was confirmed by the rep that fixed my order for me:

are you using a dell preferred account? thats what happened to my first two orders. Finally I was told that the account needed to be validated and "all attempts to contact me to notify me had failed"
BS, thats why I've submitted a BBB complaint. I think everyone who had to deal with Dell should do the same regardless of if you've gotten your laptop or not. -

Nope. Ordered through a Dell sales rep from the main number. The replacements department says that there is a problem fulfilling orders right now and the laptop is backlogged.
I called my sales agent and asked for a better discount, upgrade, etc or I would cancel and order HP. They said go right ahead. I'll think about this the next day or two. Make a decision by the end of the week. I still lilke this laptop better than the Asus or HP i'm looking at. -

Too bad I'm two and half hours away at the university and can't pick it up for a few days. Normally I would make the trip to my house to get it, but I have a lot of assignments due in the next few days, so I can't spare the time. Blah.

Came out to be something like $1550 with tax. I'm actually really fortunate that I ordered when I did, because the other laptop I had been using (Inspiron, over 3 years old) died a couple of weekends ago. My sister has been gracious enough to let me use hers temporarily because a laptop is required for the curriculum.
And I want to add that I did not configure the laptop with 6GB of RAM. I originally ordered with 4, but then it got cancelled and replaced with 6. They never called me about it, and I never called them asking to be compensated for the delay. -
