Well ... can you guys hook me up as far as who this David Bowman is?

I tried doing a forum search and a thread search for "David" and "Bowman" ... came up zippo ... so obviously the search functionality is broken ... anyone else have problems with this?

    Thanks ...

He couldn't help me. I paid with Paypal, he can cancel my order, re-do it with a credit card, $180 less and re-order with expedited.

He is not exactly there to solve the situation, just to cancel your order, re-order it under his portfolio (maybe commissions) so it is a backdoor option.

There is no true solution from Dell, but if you can do this and save money, why not. As for me, I couldn't do a thing and he couldn't help me (had to pay with paypal)

Well Dell called my bluff and won. Damnit. The HP and Asus models just don't appeal to me as much as this one. I'll keep looking for better notebooks and cancel if I find one, but I may just end up waiting until December.

Don't be so sure. I ordered 11/04 EDD 12/1 and it just shipped 11/18 next business day delivery 11/19. So maybe you'll get it sooner rather than later. BTW I had the RGBLED screen, Blue ray burner, SSD, and the i7 820. So maybe the holdup is fixed now.

    BEAT THIS!

Original Order Date 9/25/09 EDD 10/26/09
New Order Date 10/22/09 EDD 11/18/09
New Order Date 11/9/09 EDD 12/8/09

Studio XPS 16 Notebook, Intel CoreTM i7-720QM (1.6 - 2.8 GHz 6M/8 threads), 4GB DDR3, 1333MHz 2 Dimm, 15.6 inch Wide Screen 16:9 1080p Full HD WLED LCD, W/2.0 MP, XPS 1645, ATI Mobility RADEON HD 4670 1GB, 500GB 7200RPM Free Fall SensorSeagate Hard Drive, Obsidian Black High Gloss Finish, Microsoft Windows Vista HOME PREM 64-bit Edition, 4X Slot Load Blu-ray Disc (BD) Burner (Writes to DVD/CD/BD), High Definition Audio 2.0 with SRS Premium Sound, Intel WiFi Link 5300 802.11AGN Half Mini Card, 9-cell Battery, Dell Wireless 370 Bluetooth Module (2.1+EDR)

Price $1390 US Cheaper because I ordered it 2 days after the i7's came out and the pricing wasn't fully adjusted (I think).

Today is 11/18/09 and no new updates. I still don't have it. Online shows In Production. I noticed post #158 dchan07 ordered the identical setup to mine on the same date and his was out for delivery. People who think those who ordered in September have their machines guess again. My order was so old that Windows 7 wasn't out yet. My setup says it's coming with VISTA but I doubt it since they're fully on the Windows 7 output. They did send me my nice new bluetooth mouse to play with a month ago......

I emailed Dave Bowman last night. Hopefully, I'll hear from him soon. I don't want to be bumped to the back of the line for the RAM (a 2GB DIMM is about $60, which I'd rather pay than wait for another month).

Hah, Giants, you originally ordered almost a week after me, had the same cancellation, and have an ESD earlier than mine. I do have the RGB screen though.

Apparently it doesn't matter who you e-mail or talk to before your ship date because everyone reassured me my order was good to go. My order was supposed to ship today, so I called the automated phone service and it still has it listed as "Build Stage". I talked to someone and they said my new EDD is Nov 30th. I am not pleased. I ordered 28 Oct.

I ordered November 6th and the Order Status Phone line (1-800-433-9014) says "your order is currently being processed". The online version says "in production." I don't get the "kitting" or "build" or any other more detailed information from the order status phone line that many in the forum describe. Is this normal? Or is it just too early in my order process for anything to change?

Hmm, from what I understand, 6GB RAM is 2GB + 4GB, rather than 2+2+2, so it's probably worth a fair bit more than $60. But then again, it's probably a long way to the back of the line...you can try to get compensation in the form of money back to your account instead, that's what I did, although from what I've heard you need to be lucky and get a generous customer service rep.

Mine is still in Pre-Production since 11/11 with an EDD on or before 12/04/09. Should I be worried and start calling left and right? I just think its weird to stay in pre-production for 1 week with no activity. I ordered before from Dell and i used to get a computer in 1 week or so. Plz advise

I was in the Pre-Production boat as well. My order was cancelled on the 11/10 and re-ordered. I sat in pre-production and called today. They said it should not be in pre-production and someone magically cancelled the order again, gave me another order number with a 10 day delay. I'm just confused now.

    Tenax,

Yeah. After another round of calls to both Customer Care, Order Modification, and Sales they said there was an illegal configuration with Windows 7. The new order should go into production tomorrow and be here before that. I was actually told by customer care to not call them daily to check the status. Then Order Mod said to call daily to get updates. New EDD is December 14... Back of the line again.

Did you confirm you have a payment due by calling or logging in to DFS?
I checked mine, and went past what should have been 1st payment date from my original order.

Crap, I reordered on 11/11 and am still in pre-production...although when i reordered the rep asked if i "had" to have blueray as there was a longer wait for that config... i didn't care. Man, I am afraid to call.....I think I'll wait a day, maybe.

When I talked to them yesterday and asked about me being in pre-production for a week, order modification basically said that they are waiting for parts for the laptop that should be in this week. Very back-ordered. Take that for whatever that's worth.

No I dont have one yet, but what I meant is that at this rate of getting delayed & canceled and delayed again im afraid that they will send the first payment request. Thats when hell breaks loose! :D

My DFS account has not been fully charged. It seems they are holding the amount of the computer in limbo until it ships. At least that's what they tell me when I call. I actually called them to confirm that there was no hold-up on their end as to why the computer hadn't moved into building. They informed me of my order being canceled again and resubmitted.

    Original Order Date: 10/22
    Canceled: 11/10
    Reordered: 11/10
    New EDD: 12/9

My order is still in "Pre-production" after all this time. I was told that my order would be expedited but that cannot happen until the order goes into "Production".

    Consider me very concerned.
How many others are in the "Pre-Production" hurry-up-and-wait stage?

    Arrrrrrrgg!!

On last sunday (Nov. 15) my order was shipped. Since my rep told me that he gave me next day shipping for free I was thinking about having the laptop on monday, or no later than tuesday.

Tuesday 17:00: Nothing. Still "In transit in USA" on the purolator site (Canadian transport company)

Today I leave the office for a visit to one of our customer. When I returned I got a Nice Laptop box on my desk. This is it! I was thinking....

No! it was a stupid Inspiron for another order.

Worse, my XPS 16 was shipped 1 day BEFORE that Inspiron but the Inspiron came before the XPS.

I'm looking now at the status from Purolator and i'm still stuck at "In Tansit in USA"

I can't wait anymore and i'm thinking about freezing myself like Cartman on the Wii South Park episode!

Where is my Next Day shipping!!!

i ordered on 11/13, did not know this was going on until ive read almost every post here. Im not in pre-process as the phone line/website says in production. In fact it took about an hour to receive my invoice from when i ordered and i never seen the pre-process phase. It seems that pre-process is all computer done almost instantly, and you dont leave that phase unless somethings wrong with payment, parts available or incorrect config. From what i see those people in pre-process are in limbo til the edd arrives and dell finally notices and does something by canceling and re-ordering. which is ridiculous to those who ordered way before me, and would explain why others are getting theirs before them. simply cause theyre in limbo unnoticed less then average service.

my build is standard stuff.. 1080p wled, regular dvd, i7-720qm. well see what happens in the next weekish. If it goes through like it looks to have it should be shipped around then, according to other peoples experience.

got a call from purolator today, saying be home friday. ^^

    05/11/2009 : ordered
    15/11/2009 : shipped
    07/12/2009 : Ship Date

maybe the guy who put the ship date thought they put me in the "Screw this guy" line, but it seems they really put me in the "Just ship it out" line.

    The saga continues:

I called the automated phone service and talked to the person at the end of the automation and she said my order will arrive tomorrow. I asked her if it was still in production and she said yes and then transfered me to the EPP guy and he also told me that my computer will arrive tomorrow, I asked him if he was sure because it is still in the build stage. He transferred me to the customer care center x7288714 and the guy actually was able to tell me there was a delay. He transferred me to a specialist and he called the manufacturing line while I was on hold and they said my order was delayed indefinitely because of a shortage of processors and some other item, but he wouldn't say what. This morning I had someone tell me it would ship on the 30th and another person tell me it would ship on the 25th. I am tired of waisting my time. It was supposed to be delivered tomorrow and as of yesterday I was told that it was in the "final building stage" and it would ship on time, so I took the day off of work to be available to receive the package. What is going on? The specialist guy said he would call me back in 24-48hrs.

Just so you know, I ordered the Intel CoreTM i7-820QM
    Ordered 28 Oct
    EDD 19 Nov
    New EDD?

I've been upset since I ordered Oct 18th and had one order cancelled with a new order number given. The shipping date is listed as Dec 7th now. Well now it says "shipped". I'm hoping it is true.
I sent approx. 5 e-mail (+ 2 phone calls) and never really got a response what was going on. In fact I never go a single reply back to an e-mail, despite the promise of a reply within 24 hours on business days. .....
Oh well, I hope its true!

i7-820QM here as well. I was told that my order is still in pre-production due to waiting for all parts to arrive. I don't know if that is the part causing the hold up or not.

    Other options I went with:
    Bluetooth
    RBGLED Display
    Blu-Ray reader / DVD Burner
    4GB RAM

    MidtownHD,
Are you talking about a email that says your order is delayed (so many days) and if you dont want to wait you can cancel?
From my experience your following almost by the day what i been through...
My first order was on 10/5 so in the next few days if your online order status changes to "Changed" you have to call and get it reordered with windows7 and new wifi.
This is what happened to me.

    Hi All,

    Here's what happened to me:

Original order: October 10th EDD November 16th
Changed from 500 Gig hdd to 256 Gig ssd on October 16th EDD November 16th
    Order Cancelled on November 5th

It was a pain to deal with Order support during the weekend. The rep who was taking care of me said to call him back next monday. On monday a new order was placed the changes were the WIFI card and the Bluray drive by a DVD drive for the same price!!! Called him again, at first he didn't wanted to replace the optical drive because he said it was incompatible with 1645 motherboard. After 30 minutes talk, he finally changed my order.

    I went from: 313-7056 BLURAY COMBO,INSP
    to: 313-8729 4X BLURAY DRIVE

The rep confirmed this one was burning DVD also... Can anyone confirm?

New order placed on November 9th EDD december 7th

As of yesterday, my laptop is now to my carrier! Here's the status of my order:

    Status In Transit in U.S.
    Date/Time NOVEMBER 18, 2009 AT 18:56
    Depot U.S.A. GROUND LINEHAUL

Is everyone who placed there orders september/october getting there laptop? Good luck everyone!
