Order update, LOL, Oh this is so Dell.

My Account page status--- “Delivery Preparation”
    Dell Purchase I.D..Page--- “Shipped”
Dell Order I.D. Page--- “In Production”
Dell Automated Phone (EPP and Business)--- “Prep for Delivery”
Dell Automated Phone (Home)--- “Shipped On 2/21/2010”
    (Today is 2/19/2010)

Not for nothing but, how the heck does one decipher his/her order stutus? The Rosetta Stone?
Surely Dell could do a better job at providing order statuses for their customers, Geez.

They're predicting the future now? If I had to gamble a guess, it's ready and they'll push it to FedEx Sunday evening.

Dell's order system is just another sign of how crappy Dell has become. They don't have enough supplies, a woefully inaccurate order status system, and extremely poor communication organization-wide. All signs of an organization where the right and left hand have no idea what they're doing anymore. It's pitiful Dell has fallen this far from where they once were.

I ordered a 1645, but its in a similar state. It was supposed to ship today with 7 day ground so they had given me an EDD of 2/25. However, got an email today saying it had been delayed until 2/26 with an EDD of 3/04. I called and got them to give me next day shipping and now when I go online my account gives me an EDD of 2/23 but when I call the 4 2 1 1 number it tells me absolutely nothing. "Your order is currently in the build stage... I have no other information for you at this time"

good news for you mister. Mine was the exact way when it was in delivery prep, it said my order shipped on the 18th, when it was only the 16th. And when the 18th did come along, it shipped.

So expect yours to ship on that day. :)

LOL Yea, they read Tarot Cards too when thier not flipping a coin to decide how to BS you about your order. I agree Dell was so good for years, not what they used to be. Thought Mr M.Dell came back to name sake company to get things on the right track again? Still waiting. Oh, well, I won't be looking again for a new unit now for at least a few years. Maybe they'll have it right them? One can hope as I am a huge fan of their products...Still.

That's what I was thinking. Message should be "will ship" rather than "was shipped".
Either way, it's finally built and somewhere en-route to me. Can not wait to check it out. Quite shure it will be worth the wait.

Glad you got next day shipping, I should have pushed them for that too.
FYI mine sat in "Build" for a week. Sometimes it goes fast others, not so much. Also mine went straight to "prep for shipment from "Build" with no "Testing" or "Boxing" in between, so you never know. Good Luck

but Fedex shows it's in route to LA from Industry, CA (19 miles apart), next update is tomorrow.

I just want it up here in Washington State lol

I will have it Tuesday :)

And finally my saga is coming to a close. Dell's online system shows my system as Shipped. The automated phone status system for Home says it has been shipped on 2/24. The same system for EPP/Business orders says it has been placed into the hand of the carrier and should ship within the next business day. With any luck, it might ship out Sunday night and hopefully arrive on Monday. Still no tracking number as of now.

I certainly hope not though. They're probably just saying that to match the EDD. Don't see why they'd wait though because I'm sure there's plenty of planes going from LAX to JFK daily.

Josh, I read on the other thread you received your laptop. Congrats dude. Isn't the screen amazing??? I think its the best part. I would get your 130w adapter order placed like today because the new bios will probably be out Monday night and Bill says it run the 90w adapters very hot.

Dell just sent me the shipment email and issued me a tracking number. Of course it's not in the FedEx system yet but I'm happy the end is almost here. New Dell EDD of 2/23 but I'm hoping FedEx can get it here by Monday instead.

You guys will like the new boxing methods lol.

It's a box inside a box, the other things are, the laptop in a micrfibre pouch sort of thing, the power adapter (in 2 parts), and the cd's in one part.

Basically only 3 things in the whole box.

Nice to know they're keeping it simple and elegant, unlike my Inspiron 6000 box, which looks like a mess with stuff everywhere. Also good to know they're still giving the microfiber pouch...might come in handy when traveling with my backpack.

Where do you live? "Boxing" is when it's being moved from some third world country where it was made to the USA, then it's packaged or "boxed" and shipped.

Yea, I think coming from the Far East, CA is likely the main port of entry for all units. From CA they will ship out to other Dell distribution centers in the East and Mid-West, finalize the boxing for shipment (put a little box in a bigger box) and send them out to carrier(s) for individual delivery. Just my 2c but with Dell you really don't know.

Dell just sent me the shipment email and issued me a tracking number as well.

That email stated a shipping date of 2/20/2010.. when I checked the Fed Ex tracking number it shows:

    2/18/2010 Shipping Info Received
    2/19/2010 Picked Up
    ~
    2/20/2010 In transit Fresno, CA

    Fed Ex EDD: 2/24/2010

It appears it will be here as originally scheduled and not Dell's updated EDD. :D

I did order after you but... My original order for Studio 17 got so badly butchered by Dell, that it took me almost two months of nightmares and phone calls to get to the point of accepting XPS as a replacement. I raised so much hell that this current order got handled by one of the top level sales managers and that is why I believe it got expedited.

After all these experiences with Dell, I'll be happy only once I have the laptop in my hands AND after I make sure it is working as expected.

I hope so, been waiting long enough for it.

I’m sure the SSD is nice and all but until they get more mainstream and cost to GB comes down to something more reasonable, I’ll just stick with traditional hard drives.

FedEx is strange. My laptop got into the city at 4AM and then it said "Package Not Due for Delivery". Then the status changes at 8AM to "Package put on vehicle for delivery". I wonder if they're just taking my laptop out for a ride in the truck and then bringing it back to the facility for the actual delivery estimate of tomorrow.

Yea, FedEx isn't showing me any love either. They show Shipment information sent to FedEx on 2/19 and that's it. It's still in the first (Initiated) stage with a delivery date of 2/23 (tomorrow) via FedEx Ground. I don't see that happening unless they drive all night. Still early though, maybe their system is slow on updates to the public.

Good for you Dude, Enjoy! Now pinch yourself, it's not a dream!

One picky note but the laptop will smell pretty nasty for a bit due to the recycled HDPE plastic packing they use. Air it out a bit!

Update! - Shipped - no tracking info yet.

The phone line says shipped on 2/25... as usual... a future date.
any idea how long it would take for the tracking information to be available ?

no change on edd on dell's website.

funny thing - the 4,2,1,1 number says my order was shipped on 1/16 ! (that was when i placed the order!).. had to listen to that msg again to make sure that I had not gone mad!

Congrats on the ship! It's all downhill from here!

Your guess is as good as mine, but with me I got shipping data the day(in the future) that the phone sys said it shipped. Your likely right on track for your latest EDD, maybe a day sooner. My 2cents

When mine said "Shipped on the 18th" on the 16th, I thought it was odd. But on the 18th it shipped.

So I would expect you to get the number on the 25th.

Has anyone's laptop shipped from Keasbey, NJ? My fedex tracking just got posted and it has the shipment originating from Keasbey! I was expecting Nashville. Maybe they just didn't post the Nashville to Keasbey part of the trip.

Anyway, it is supposed to arrive tomorrow. A week ahead of the original EDD. I was worried for a while after reading about the delays so many of you have experienced. I feel like a kid on Christmas Eve, can't wait until tomorrow!

Not that I know of. Sometimes Fedex's tracking information is about as good as Dell's order status information! I don't think that Dell has a distribution center in NJ. Not sure if anyone is really interested, but I'll post what I find out when it is delivered.
