The fact that it's an Atom processor isn't so disturbing. It's the model of Atom that's used in this computer that's disturbing, to me.

So if enough of us think this, will another manufacturer step in and make a 12" version of their netbook with an N270 and 2.5" disk.

    Anyone for a Samsung NC12?

    I don't know.

But, I do think Dell will regret the combination of CPU and OS chosen for this device.

    Oh yeah, or Asus.

I think there would a great market, but Microsoft has limited the cheap XP license to 1024*600.

The designs are OK, but the colours on the patterned versions don't appeal to me.

I12 rivlals. Dell will get away with the I12 until someone else produces a direct rival. It's a total guess, but I'd back Asus to be first, given their many many versions and lesser reliance on larger laptops. The Vista licence is a factor, but these netbooks cost more than some Vista laptops.

It may not happen, but I can't believe they're not thinking about it.

I want one badly since it's the only netbook that comes with 1280*800 display. I bought wind U100 last week and sold it since the screen isn't that good (and small). Wish there were few more netbooks with high res screen :|

You're going to have a long wait.

From what I understand, the only way you're going to get XP on this thing is if you do it yourself. Microsoft doesn't allow XP for notebooks with LCDs over 10 inches.

Well they do allow it, but only at full price.

While the 10" 1024*600 get a very cheap license.

    As far as I know.

Which brings us neatly back to the Ubuntu Inspiron 12 link that was mentioned in the first post in this thread: Now due at Tesco on 05/01/09!

Some folk have installed Vista on N270 netbooks and got better performance than with the standard XP install. I expect some tweaking was done, but it shows that acceptable performance is possible with a netbook, at least an N270 one.

There's one person on the MyDellMini forumwho claims to have received a Mini 12.... allegedly ;) .... so they seem to have sol one. And to think we all thought this could be a really good addition to the netbook fold.

Perhaps another manufacturer has built something a bit better.... http://www.packardbell.co.uk/produc...+BG45-U-300/productsheet-PC11E05501-1239.html

Supposedly the battery life is a let down and Packard Bell have a reputation for customer disservice, but it's a step in the right direction.

    And it's £322 against the Vista I12's £399!

The Dell Mini 12 is selling with Windows XP now here in Japan, though prices are the same as the one selling with Vista. I'd like to get one but they need to do better than $600-700 for it, and that's after they recently cut off $350. (in Japan)

It's actually a very nice looking laptop with an above average screen. I've played with it a couple of times. Like you say, the battery is the problem. It's maximum battery life is 2.5 hours. I believe it's a 3 cell battery. There's a 6 cell available but pretty expensive.

It has actually been replaced now by the BG47 with X4500 GPU. Except for the GPU everyting is the same.

The good thing is that we can actually buy it here, unlike the Dell Mini 12.

No pics.... Well I did say allegedly ;) Which makes me think; remember all the unboxing/showing etc pictures that were posted when the other netbooks were first released? There were loads, but with the Mini 12, there's nothing
