Complete and thorough review of the Mini 12.
http://www.notebookjournal.de/tests/dell_inspiron_mini_12-745
It's in german, google can translate it. -

I am not impressed. 12" and it comes with ATOM processor...
Though, I get the portable-basic user would go for it - due to price -
Or Babelfish
Though some words are just out of place. -
The fact that it's an Atom processor isn't so disturbing. It's the model of Atom that's used in this computer that's disturbing, to me.
-
And, Google did translate...as always thanks for the linkys
Yes, a very thorough review..hmmmmmm.

So if enough of us think this, will another manufacturer step in and make a 12" version of their netbook with an N270 and 2.5" disk.
Anyone for a Samsung NC12? -
I don't know.
But, I do think Dell will regret the combination of CPU and OS chosen for this device. -
Oh yeah, or Asus.
I think there would a great market, but Microsoft has limited the cheap XP license to 1024*600. -
Not a bad idea
Cin

Your prayers have been heard cin:
Dell adds artwork, new colors to Mini lids -
The designs are OK, but the colours on the patterned versions don't appeal to me.
I12 rivlals. Dell will get away with the I12 until someone else produces a direct rival. It's a total guess, but I'd back Asus to be first, given their many many versions and lesser reliance on larger laptops. The Vista licence is a factor, but these netbooks cost more than some Vista laptops.
It may not happen, but I can't believe they're not thinking about it. -
Thanks, Phil...I really like that Muse Orange!
I'm gonna order thte I12 in this color!
Return which one I decide not to keep the I9 or the I12..after playing with for a little while!
I'm attempting to order the I9 in red now thru EPP.
maybe.
The site is behaving badly

I think Dell black friday has the mini 9 for $299?
-
Ohhh that is right! Thank you!
Now how could I forget that??
Alright..I just forgot! hee
Cin
-
Aaah I just looked again it's for black and white only.
Oh well..thanks for reminding me!
Cin
-
cin you have to have a 9 and 12 inch!!
))
-
Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
LOL
-
LoL..that's what I'm gonna do..to make the best decision!
I9=Cherry Red, I12=Muse Orange!~
(I will be returning the one that doesnt work for *me*) LOL
Cin
-
So guess what?? you are going to keep both.. good luck sending one of these back.. lol....
I cancelled my mini12 until my Epp can offer pink or another color. -
Has anyone tried Windows 7 on this machine?
-
Oh you think so??
I hope not! I mean maybe I will... yeah probably?
Are you happy you cancelled the I12? My EPP is the same still in B&W only!
I bet by the end of the week there will be more color choices availi'
I don't think anyone here has purchased yet...
It would be nice to hear if anyone did!

I want one badly since it's the only netbook that comes with 1280*800 display. I bought wind U100 last week and sold it since the screen isn't that good (and small). Wish there were few more netbooks with high res screen :|
-
As expected the Mini 12 does a lot better with XP:
http://blog.laptopmag.com/dell-inspiron-mini-12-peppier-with-windows-xp -
There's a shocker.
-
I'll be waiting for the XP version.
-
You're going to have a long wait.
From what I understand, the only way you're going to get XP on this thing is if you do it yourself. Microsoft doesn't allow XP for notebooks with LCDs over 10 inches. -
Well they do allow it, but only at full price.
While the 10" 1024*600 get a very cheap license.
As far as I know. -
Thank you, Phil..for the linky w/information...that was an interesting read.
XP
..tis will be a nice wait...
Cin
-
No problem. I have a 700M and a 1530 to keep me occupied 'til then. Or just get the Ubuntu version.
-
The point is, there probably won't be an XP version... hence the long wait.
-
I won't mind Ubuntu version either.. Only if it comes by the end of this year.
-
Which brings us neatly back to the Ubuntu Inspiron 12 link that was mentioned in the first post in this thread: Now due at Tesco on 05/01/09!
Some folk have installed Vista on N270 netbooks and got better performance than with the standard XP install. I expect some tweaking was done, but it shows that acceptable performance is possible with a netbook, at least an N270 one. -
Has anyone ordered a Dell mini 12 yet?
-
So no one has this yet?
-
Maybe there's not much interest in a large, expensive, netbook?
-
Make that a large and expensive netbook with poor performance.

Today's dell Deal of Day has mini 9 for $299 - ofcourse when I configured it to how I want it, it went to $449
Lol
-
If you were going for the straight $299 it would be a good deal..
When you start adding..it surely adds up
And, not one person here, has bought the I12 ~ or knows anyone that has purchased????? Wowsa.

There's one person on the MyDellMini forumwho claims to have received a Mini 12.... allegedly
.... so they seem to have sol one. And to think we all thought this could be a really good addition to the netbook fold.
Perhaps another manufacturer has built something a bit better.... http://www.packardbell.co.uk/produc...+BG45-U-300/productsheet-PC11E05501-1239.html
Supposedly the battery life is a let down and Packard Bell have a reputation for customer disservice, but it's a step in the right direction.
And it's £322 against the Vista I12's £399! -
My Nephew got it on 5th. He tells that, First impression is good. Yet to start using it, as he is busy with Exams.
Thinking of grabbing it...
Cheers -
Did they post pics at all? That PBell 12'..not so bad!
That's cool..please update us as to how he likes it, once he's used it a bit, and such!

The Dell Mini 12 is selling with Windows XP now here in Japan, though prices are the same as the one selling with Vista. I'd like to get one but they need to do better than $600-700 for it, and that's after they recently cut off $350. (in Japan)
-
It's actually a very nice looking laptop with an above average screen. I've played with it a couple of times. Like you say, the battery is the problem. It's maximum battery life is 2.5 hours. I believe it's a 3 cell battery. There's a 6 cell available but pretty expensive.
It has actually been replaced now by the BG47 with X4500 GPU. Except for the GPU everyting is the same.
The good thing is that we can actually buy it here, unlike the Dell Mini 12. -
No pics.... Well I did say allegedly
Which makes me think; remember all the unboxing/showing etc pictures that were posted when the other netbooks were first released? There were loads, but with the Mini 12, there's nothing
