Hmm, my only worry is that if I accept option 2 and then Dell carries on its usual tricks and it gets delayed beyond what they have promised would I still have made the right choice.

Is twice the memory a much better asset than an extra .2GHz on the processor?

I agree, with either option, your laptop may still be delayed. Dell have really screwed up this time.

i think the extra 2 gig ram would make a bigger difference than the extra .2ghz on the processor. It also depends of what sort of applications you'd be using on the laptop. If running ie adobe photoshop or premier, an increase in the ram would be better a better option.

Try getting both the extra 2 gig ram and .2GHz pn processor lol. ;)

Don't worry - I got nailed too.... see sig.

Djrm; Unless you can get them to garuntee in writing that your order will be with you on that Friday or they will give you a further discount in price of say £150 ... I would stick with T7700. Either way they're going to screw you.

    ROFL :D

I do use Photoshop a lot so i am tempted with the extra memory but id also like to be one of the minority with the T7700. Ive got until tomorrow to make the decision. I think ill sleep on it.

Ive tried the written guarantee and of course they wont lol. I cant ask for a discount as im not paying for it, remember its a replacement for a M1210. The M1330 is worth twice the price I paid for my original M1210 and almost twice as stacked up so trust me when I say i'm over the moon, delay or not ;)

Ill let you know what ive decided to do tomorrow.

To be honest, unless you really need to squeeze that extra ounce of performance out of the processor, I would definately go with the Ram. Vista is ram hungry at the best of time. Furthermore (and this is why I dropped from T7700 to T7500), they are still experiencing supposed testing issues with the T7700 chip on the M1330. How confident are you that this wont drag on for another 3 months while they sort out the issues?

From a purely economic point of view when I dropped from T7700 to T7500 I only saved £100. To go from 2GB to 4GB is £334. It stands to reason that the Ram option gets you more! Either way you order is delayed, may as well get the most out of them!

How long is the average time to get yourself from pre-production to shipped?

I ask this because it's getting closer and closer to my 6th Sep EDD and I'm in pre-prod. As of tomorrow (Thursday) they'll have exactly a fortnight to get the parts, build it, test it, box it and ship it. And as of Friday I'll have waited 50 days for this thing.

Part of me hopes that it doesn't come by september 6th, because then I'll be forced to cancel (due to uni looming) and go with a rizeon S37S or a Zepto 3414W.

But of course, a bigger part of me hopes it'll come on or before the EDD :(

Hmm a colleague (that ordered 5 days after me) received his today.

And i am soooooo happy not to have mine yet.
The quality of materials, the performance of the screen in blinding sunlight, speed, everything is absolutely magnificient.

    Just two things:
    - the finger print reader was missing
    - the overall build quality is so absolutely bad, its unbelievable for something meant to be "premium". The monitor cable is sticking out quite a bit between keyboard and powerkey. and the wifi antenna cables are not properly in the case around the hinge, they are hanging FREELY around the hinge. the first one snap upon opening the notebook the second time, the other lost all its insulation during the process.

I'm so happy that i'm (not yet) in Customer Care Hell with that sort of problem.
Hopefully they will improve their experience on building this notebook before i receive mine.

Oh btw, my back-up sales rep hinted that my notebook might get delayed to 04/10 for delivery. Sweet.

It just seems like one thing after another with this laptop. I sincerely hope this is the last time that Dell ever release a laptop that has no market competition then I'll have something else to opt for over this company.

Also, thanks for the reply mrkuji :)

I'm in the exact same situation! Well, if they don't make my 06/09 EDD that is... in which case I can get a similar specced Zepto for about £400 less within 7 days.

As much as I don't like to say it, I hate how the UK's been put on the back-burner while Dell sort the US out. I'm happy to see the American customers finally get what they've waited for, but our pretty much basic orders have been surpassed by even the "limited edition" white-cased 1330s, and many of those were ordered after ours! But I guess that's how things work.

Out of interest, which Uni are you going to Mike? First year or not?

(Lol, I just ordered a takeaway and was quoted a time of 10-15 minutes... Oh, the joys of short delivery times  )

Good point about the £334, although im sure its not worth that compared to aftermarket RAM.

I decided to join the forum and vent my frustration too...

    ordered 23/07 EDD-24/08
    22/08 EDD changes to 08/10

    T7500 2.2GHZ
    LED Tuxedo Black
    2GB RAM
    200GB HDD
    Vista Ultimate
    Bluetooth

judging from my specs and your experiences do you think I have any chance of getting before october?

I am seriously tempted right now to cancel the order and just get a Sony SZ6 notebook.... somebody stop me!

This might be true, but I assume the US don't get their laptops made in Ireland like the UK, so perhaps it's because they come from different factories and different factories are likely to have different schedules.

Incidentally, on the assumption that they are indeed coming from different factories, does anyone know what screens we're getting here. I know there is some discussion of two screens in the US, a Chi Mei one and a Toshiba one (see CMO vs. TMD). Are we getting the same?

Also, is it true we don't get a pair of free earphones like our American cousins?

To little surprise, my EDD changed today to 9 Oct 2007 so i've gone ahead and cancelled my order. If the patronizing, bone headed indian CS workers weren't infurinating enough, Dell went on to charge my credit card today aswell, the c*nts.

Anyway, as already discussed on this forum, I'm looking for a gaming rig now.

Good luck to the rest of you.

Happened to me too mate. They pushed my EDD back till the 10th October couple of days back, after cashing the money for the thing over a week and a half ago!!!

PD: I am from Spain, but it is the same here or there, we are in Europe...

Take heart all those waiting for red 1330s - Mine was ordered on 15 July, with a revised EDD of 24 /9 and has been shipped today despite being told by Dell CSR on Saturday that delivery wasn't guaranteed even by end of September.

Am I right in saying that the tides seem to be turning? A lot of people seem to have got theirs in the last week, despite the fact that a lot of others have had delays.

It's a bit hard to tell as it is - perhaps if those who have got it could add their system to jtromans handy tracker ( Here). I think people are probably more willing to update the tracker while waiting rather than when they've received (understandably: as fun as the tracker is, its not as fun as an m1330 in the hands :))

Hi Guys - I am new here but seem to be having the same issues.

I am in the UK and I ordered the following:

Dell XPS 1330 with the following specification:

    2.2 GHZ CPU
    Vista Ultimate
    3 year support
    Black and .03 camera
    Fingerprint reader
    LED display
    4GB RAM
    160 HDD
    DVDRW
    8400 Graphics
    9 Cell Battery
    Mobile Broadband
    Wireless N card
    Bluetooth

This was ordered on the 9th of July - original delivery was 3rd of August, this was put back to the 22nd and now it is the 3rd of October.

I am 99% certain I will cancel and get a Sony Vaio VGNSZ691NX imported.

I am not a happy Dell customer :(

I was charged yesterday and my EDD moved to the 10th of October at the same time aswell. Why they can't just charge when it's shipped I don't know. Well I do know, it's because they want my money early but that doesn't mean I agree with them.

Yeh I agree - all the European ones get made in Ireland. I don't understand what the hell is going on and how on earth they are taking so long. If you look at the system tracker (in my sig.) you will notice only about 10% have recieved their laptops. If we are a cross section of the parent population of buyers, we have to assume on 10% in general have recieved theirs. That's disgusting considering some people have been waiting since June. Obviously its possible that those that receive theirs might not bother to update their profiles on system tracker - but with that said the number of "received" laptops is increasing (just very slowly), so I think people are updating them... its more fo a case of very few people have actually got theirs.

Well mines been given an EDD of 10th October and I ordered nearly 2 weeks before you. I don't understand how they are working out who gets what when. Even if they're doing it on part availablility - most of our laptops are so similar.....

I agree people may forget to update their system tracker having got their laptop... I know I might and I made the thing :p

Join the club man. Loads of us UK buyers have had our EDD's put back to October. Your set-up is really similar to mine, and I got pushed back too.

Thanks for that RachUK, I'll send him a copy of the letters to Bracknell that went unanswered, and the 4 page long timeline of events that I have drafted up of my Dell Hell.

If he proves to be good at getting things sorted, I suggest we all abandon Dell customer care (those of us who haven't already), and address our complaints to someone who can do something about it!

I checked the tracker this morning and i have been pushed back now to the 10/10/2007 so that would be a 3 month plus wait. I cannot say that i am surprised at all by this.
I spoke with someone higher up at Dell yesterday and they said that looking at my order i should have it in early September but we will see.

Quite a lot of UK orders have been pushed back to that date. Including myself. I have seen 2 other UK people also have the same thing - which says to me its an automated thing and its not very accurate. What i mean by that is two fold - it might mean it comes way before that date, which would seem reasonable given the fact i can't see what on earth could take that long. On the other hand its quite possible it wont make that date either since it is clearly some sort of batch guess work by a computer system. Dell say you order your PC and its customised for you... which is probably true. However the general manufacturing process is so batch and random its unbelievable. I would like to think from the moment I order parts and labelled as mine and the whole thing is all predetermined and built for me. Instead it seems to me as though Dell are building random spec machines and then looking at orders after and sending machines out to people that fit what has been built. So much for personalised ordering. That would explain the batch delay in shipment dates.

Dude they dont know ANYTHING. I've been working at the world's leading computer company (about 5x more copies of its software are in use than windows...!) and our sales people know much less than the developers and to be frank than they should. And if OUR guys know that little CSR's at Dell probably know nothing. In fact they probably know less than we, the notebookreview community, do... given the resources we have available to us on here and other sites such as system tracker and so on.

It's getting unbelievable now.. not to mention laughable.

I can't get hold of my rep for my life and he either doesn't reply to my emails or dodges all my xps related questions... this is how they treat their corporate account holders :|

I've taken to annoying him with quotes for laptops I don't need just to see if he's actually alive.. obviously i get very quick replies to those :twitcy:

why do they insist on doing everything on the phone as i'm on the phone a lot of the time and cant take calls..and when i call him back i get his answer phone.

Rachuk, matt5cott, I am also awaiting a white M1330, so I guess we're in the same boat and should receive our orders about the same time. At the current moment though, my ETA still stands at 01/10, it hasn't been put back any further like yours has Rachuk. Still a 3 month+ wait though!

Rachuk, have you had a response from Mr Claman yet?

Well I have now cancelled - I have ordered the Sony equivalent instead. :)

As an IT Director who purchases Dell exclusively and is currently out to market for a mirrored SAN solution this is not a good omen - Dell have been getting worse and worse over the last year. Three months for a laptop is ridiculous especially when I rely on them for hundreds of PCs, laptops and servers, I can't afford to keep people waiting. Dell have potentially lost a lot more than a laptop sale on this as they have not been at all helpful.

Only question is: Are HP any better?

My UK M1330 came this morning (Midlands) so don't give up the wait because it is excellent.

    2.2 GHz
    LED Screen
    200 GB 7200RPM
    4GB RAM

Quality is excellent only little thing is that the left "hinge cover" does not fit as well as I would have liked but it isn't a big deal.

    Totally excellent laptop imo

MigHunter hi Mr Claman didn't personally call me to resolve the issue that i had he got somebody else in the top excutive relations department to and they called me yesterday. They told me that they had read my letter also but they did not let know this before either by a call/email or letter.
I mailed a few people actually and i was told a few other people were also aware of my complaint. I thought that the mails that i sent those people were just kind of ignored but they were read.
    It is resolved now thankfully.
I hope that you have some luck in resolving your issues also.

I ordered my laptop before the guy who got his white XPS as been said already there is no real order to how Dell are doing things.

    Here's my story:

Before ordering I asked Dell support at the end of July what my delivery date would be and they said mid-september. I said
"Thanks anyway but that's too long so I'll look somewhere else"
    and this was the response:

(copy and paste from actual online conversation)

So they guaranteed delivery by 01/09.

I was suspicious so during the ordering process I checked again:
I figured it was a real guarantee and went ahead with the order (31st July). Estimated delivery: 28th August.

Surprise surprise today I get told my new delivery date is 10th October.
So now I have less than a week to somehow find a temporary laptop I can use for the first month of my ridiculously stressful postgraduate course that starts on 3rd september. As if I don't have enough work to do right now...

Obviously I was an idiot for trusting Dell support, but do you think I can make a case to get some kind of discount or compensation? Who is the best person / place to complain to?

Good luck to everyone else waiting also :)

Definitely: the rep verbally and explicitly added extra terms to your order agreement, namely a guarantee of the order date, which is more than the usual expected delivery date. Furthermore, you have reasonable evidence for this. You should certainly show this to someone, preferably the rep's manager.

On the other hand, it's probably best not to show the rep's real name on this forum :)
