Whoah ... you ordered August 6th THIS YEAR and you're already in production ... that's a lot faster than most!

Normally pretty quick once it's in acutal "Production" and not "Pre-Production". i.e. days.

Hi all ... just seeing the magical "dispatched" message in the system tracker and was called to say that my M1330 has actually "left the building" so should be seeing it soon. Specs below ... they seem to be getting these moving now so hopefully y'all will start receiving them in the coming days. Hopefully it's been worth the wait!

Perhaps those expedited things aren't bollocks then.

I said I had mine expedited twice, as I ordered mine on the 6th and then I ordered a second one on my account on the 12th, the sales chap was very happy and said he had expedited it. Thought it was bollocks at the time though.

Can I just ask, does anyone know if there is a HUGE, HUGE difference between the CCFL and the LED display, are there any direct comparisons anywhere? My sales person was most against the idea of having an LED display.

I am in production to according to the online tracker. I checked mine this morning and it was still saying pre-production then i checked again this evening and now it says that i am in production. I hope that this is not an error/glitch.
I wonder how long it will take to get to me now. My estimated ship date has not changed it is still showing as the 10/10/2007.
Hopefully all of us who have been waiting a while will have our laptops soon. I just hope that there is no fault with mine like the missing fingerprint reader etc when it arrives.

Ditto! I've gone into production too - although I note that the date it claims I went into production is the 8th of August. Either this is a mass taunt - and this seems very possible - or Dell have received a massive delivery of parts.

My thoughts exactly! Except the last part... a bit too pessimistic for my liking ;) But I agree about hoping against hope that we haven't all got the same glitch on the online order status page!

Best of luck to everyone, keep everyone else updated if any of you get yours!

Mine too is in production - apparently as of Wednesday 15th August.... but I could have sworn this was the date it was updated as pre-production. No change in delivery date though. Dell better not be getting my hopes up!

MigHunter, mine's the same - forgot to mention that.

Once my delay from 31/7 to 6/9 ad come and gone, my pre-prod date had changed to 27/7... but now that date is shown on the "In Production" line.

Has anyone else got this? I'm starting to think it's a glitch or Dell is trying to shut us all up.

Actually yeah, I think it is a bug as it says that mine is in production as of 6th of August, that is when I ordered!

Is there anyone who isn't in production then?

Mine says that mine is in production as from the 24/08/07 i am not quite sure what is happening and some of us may have to wait to Tuesday to find out. I am not sure if they are open on Monday as it is a bank holiday in the UK.

My collaegue (the one who got his two M1330 on thursday) was told by customer care the the finger print reader is NOT available as an option for the M1330 any longer and that customers that have choosen that option will be refunded.

However, my backup-sales rep told me that finger print readers are currently available for order in their system as well as the website. So i'm not sure if this is true or some kind of "i don't want to deal with this really"-BS from customer care.

Now i've seen it "in production" and be taken back i'm going for some compensation..they are messing around too much now.

we need a clear cut and deffinitive reason for the hold up, we need to know when these parts are expected AND an accurate estimation of an EDD.

This is really starting to mess me around now.. because i'm leaving the job where the laptop is being delivered.. then a few weeks later i'll be living somewhere else..so i have no idea where im supposed to get it delivered!!

    D: Delays and more delays
E: English or my like Indianish
    L: Lies and more Lies
    L: Low stocks, Lost customers

Last night my system went into production which really boosted my moral , from been six weeks in pre-production and yes u guessed right moved back to pre-production again today . Shame on you Dell, obviously european customers aren’t important as the Americans hence we get teased around with our order status .

No laptop in the world is worth waiting 12 weeks for , successfully cancelled today and ordered m1330 same specifications from eBay today ETA Tuesday 28th /08 . Dell you go to Hell.

HP has over taken Dell the worlds number PC makers I wounder way , do what I did cancel your order and got to ebay more reliable then dell.

Just my update. Mine arrived on the 21st August (as I was away on Holiday, typical)! I had an EDD of 27th September, so clearly those are a load of ....

I have to say it's just great! I got tuxedo black and other than fingerprints showing up a bit too easily on it, everything else is brilliant. The build quality seems great on mine and it feels pretty sturdy. The only thing I have slight issues with at the moment is the fingerprint scanner doesn't seem to work great, and is quite hard to get a good 'read'! But in the grand scheme of things I don't really care as that was just a bonus item. Had a few problems with the inbuilt eject not working as well, just lights up blue for about 5 seconds then goes off without having ejected the disk. Resorted to right clicking on the drive in my computer and choosing 'eject' that way.

But other than those two minor glitches I have been using it pretty much solidly for 2 days now on my lap on the couch and haven't had any issues with weight or heat like you get on some. The performance is slick (7500 & 2gb RAM) and the built in camera, remote, wifi and bluetooth all work great.

So it took them a LONG time, was messed about with delivery dates, but am SOOO glad I didn't cancel!

    Hi Guys

Dell has no respect for its European customers and treats us like second class citizens. If you go to Dell’s American site and try and order M1330 you wouldn’t get the message on the right hand side stating it will take 6 weeks like what you would get on the European sites.

I work for a global company and one of my colleagues in USA has ordered his laptop on 15th of August and was delivered on 22nd specs as follows, And I have to wait until the 28/9 for exactly the same specifications.

    XPS 2.2GHZ
    4 RAM
    Black
    Bluetooth
    Biometric
    W-LEDs
    200GB HD

And once it arrives if it dose, many user are complaining about the build quality. If you look at Sony , Acer both have been offering coloured Laptops for the last year and neither have this production problem, lets not forget about the exploding battery problem dell has been having as well.

Spoke to my CAM today who said “Due to global WLEDS shortage your order is 80% more likely to get delayed on the 15/9 “, I hate dell. Currently thinking about my other options and will sleep on it until tomorrow before I cancel.

    ARRIVED!!!!

Delighted to report that my XPS M1330 has eventually arrived after a long wait (not as long as some I know so sorry to those who are still waiting!).

All looks good ... the fingerprints on the black cover will smudge it up a bit but other than that no complaints so far.

Will have a better idea of build and operation later ... just deciding now whether to go straight into re-installing o/s or to use it for a while first!

Hmm, there are both new configurations and a price increase.
Base configuration now includes the WLED, 6400M, the T7300, 160GB drive, wireless-N, and so forth.
Plus various options are more expensive, such as £40 for the fingerprint reader (my configuration turned out about 100 Euro (£60) more expensive, leaving out discounts).
Interesting that they're putting many of the things that seem to be causing delays in the base configuration.

Hello, just phoned Dell up and they say that my order is in "production" and not in pre production as my online slip says.

I tried to get him to define the meaning of the two and they were really pretty blurred into a grey.

Can anyone confirm that production means that they have the parts and it is being BUILT?

As soon as they get 'some' parts, they start building it. Mine has been 'in production' for quite some time now, but not all the parts are there yet. If you ask your status on the phone, they will say 'in production', but if you look it up online it will say 'preproduction'. As soon as all the parts have arrived your online status will also bump to 'in production'.

Some Australian orders that have the same spec as your are being delivered this week. Where does UK orders get built?
Also Canadians have been receiving orders in record time.

UK orders are built in Ireland, so I doubt Australia has the same source (aren't some produced in Malaysia?). But I do indeed hope the orders are speeding up here too!

I really regret not ordering my laptop in America when i had the chance to get a real bargain on one in July.

I am really fed up with this waiting now it is a sick joke really and it is really getting on my nerves now. What is wrong with Dell Ireland? I am seeing some US orders going through now in a couple of weeks. Dell is a mail order company and i wonder is there any body that regulates them?

I have emailed somebody in the escalations department who is dealing with my order now to ask them what is causing the delay with my order and if i hear anything i will update. I have also asked him if I my order can be super expedited if there is such a thing I don’t even know.

I have already asked for compensation and it will be given to me when my order finally ships.

The reasons why I have not cancelled my order was because a) I passed up getting the alternative computer that I wanted in America 2) I kind of hope that it is going to turn up soon 3) Lack of competition in the 13.3 space/price.

I think that i can only give it a couple of more weeks though and i would probably go back to having a MBP again.

I hear you rach, im incredibly annoyed as this has stopped me from producing some personal work (the most important kind) I wanted to do in July at the very latest, not September/October  I wanted to do some filming work and I NEED this laptop for it, by the time I get it, it will no longer be light enough to get full days in

Point 3.) stops me from going elsewhere really, as I have previously stated in this thread somewhere, I actually wish someone else would bring out a competing laptop.

I now don't bother emailing Dell for help, it just winds me up because they are literally useless. I have put off a chap from work ordering from Dell and a purchaser for the university IT department I work at from going Dell, they both heard my story and though sod that! So at the end of the day they're feeling the effects of this even if they think they aren't. I certainly won't be using Dell again, and will happily tell people of this story if I hear them mention ordering from them for years to come.
