I think its time to Contact BBC Watchdog?

    Whats your view?

I am also not getting anywhere on this even after emaling Customer Care several times. My Rep is also useless and just say you'll get it by the EDD and said this 3 times now since my EDD has changed 3 times now.

Same problem remains with the watchdog Idea..unless it can persaude dell USA to share the love on the screens which they most likely can't.

They admit they have messed up and your patience should be rewarded with the best laptop they have built to date.

Now sony has annouced the SZ6 in europe i'm waiting for some prices and will consider cancelling my dell if I can get a SZ650 + 3 year warranty for less than £1500

Probably to him i sound like i am more at boiling point if anything lol.
This rep works in the escalations team i am hoping that what he says come to pass but time only will tell with Dell.
I was wondering if that free usb modem may have been holding me up i hope that it never delayed them getting me my computer out sooner.
It is a bit of a relief to receive that email going into the weekend at least i know what is going on a bit now.
Hopefully those of us who have been waiting a long time our orders will be built when they get the monitors in early next week.

Sorry but you are going to be disappointed: No way will Sony Europe price the Vaio SZ6xx at £1500 or less with a three year warranty!
However, you can get an SZ680 (T7500) right now for £1100 if you order from the US (and this includes shipping and paying 17.5% VAT on import). That's what I did. The warranty is one year and you need to send it back to the US but that only costs £80 (insured) so the thing would have to break down a lot to push the price near European levels...

Can you get a european warranty on it at all?

I have a few business contacts including a good one for sony's via misco so don't rule me out getting one at that price :p

If you look at the vaio fz ...we pay around 25% more than they do in the usa for equivalent models. So based on that if you do that maths the SZ650 should be around £1300/1400 (without the warranty)

It's a small hope..but it's one im clinging to since i've pretty much given up on my xps now lol

No European warranty is possible if you purchase in the US. I guess they do this to try and seperate the two markets (and it's pretty effective). As Philflow said in another forum, it appears CompUSA will sell you an international warranty of their own with the SZ, but its quite pricy (£150 ish). I called Sony US and asked what would happen if my US purchased SZ broke in Europe. They said I would have to send it back to them in the US, but that they would fully honor the warranty and send it back to me after repair. That's good enough for me.

By the way, HP business line products sold in the US come with a 3-year GLOBAL warranty by default.

Same, mine has gone in to Production also. Not getting my hopes up as I have seen it go in to production and then back to pre-production 4 times now. If it's still in production on Monday, then i might get a bit giddy.

62 days and counting since I ordered. Whats a few more days wait eh?

Well, I think it has a better chance this time. Last time, when it was a glitch, mine went into production too, which was pretty unbelievable since I ordered on the 8th of August. Mine is still solidly in pre-prod. today, so if it's a mistake it's at least a different one!

Incidentally, does it have the correct date for when you went into production (last time many of us had pre-prod. = prod. date)?

I know it's not much of a good question, as I can see many people are still waiting for their laptop. Problem is that I'm stuck in limbo, this is the only laptop I like within it's category.

I'm a university student who starts in October, I can cope without it for the first few weeks but any delay after that becomes a problem. You think I should join the queue?

It's hard to tell, but it seems likely that the problems will continue into October. Some articles have said the delays will continue into November. However, the delays may have shortened by then.

Also depends on your purse strings: many people see the soon-to-arrive Sony SZ6 as an alternative to the M1330 - it's more expensive but perhaps you could wait for that.

Yeah I also read that, but I feel the SZ6 will be too much on my budget as a student. You think I should keep my options open and order? How easy is it to cancel these days?

It's pretty easy to cancel. As to whether you should order, I don't know, but it sounds a bit like you've made your decision but want someone else to confirm it ;) . I would judge the wait by what Dell says, which is that it would take 6 weeks. If things improve as they should, that sounds reasonable and, who knows, you might get it earlier. In another thread I heard of a guy in the US who got his in 8 days - so maybe we can expect things to start sorting themselves out over here too.

(Note of course, that since I'm waiting on one I'm going to have an optimistic bias)

If the SZ6 hits the stores soon i'm tempted to be honest.. I actually prefer how it looks but the xps is better for simple upgrades like the hard drive. I'm not interested in taking the whole thing apart to change a hard drive like in the vaio.

I'll be very happy if this is the real deal and I get my laptop in the next week or so.. I'm a couple of days behind you (60) lol

I've now moved from Pre-production, to Production and now Delivery Preparation in 1 day. Makes me wonder if they were waiting for 1 screw to put in it for the last 60 days!

So looks like I might finally get it this week.

Well, I'm still in pre-prod according to the online status tracker, after 59 days. It's nice to see so many people from the UK have their orders processed but whyyyy oh whyyyyy hasn't mine! Dell are swines.

Is it because after my first delay, my online tracker says "pre-production as of 27th July 2007"? It used to say "pre-prod as of 6th July 2007". I.e. have I been bumped down the queue through no fault of my own??
My question to all those who've moved through production is did your pre-prod date do the same (shift to the date of your delay) or did it still show your original date? TIA

I'm *apparently* in Production now... but it's as of 27th of July again, i.e. my former pre-prod date. I'm getting a bit of deja-vu, and therefore I have no hope that this is the real deal.

Thanks to lobber for the quick reply, and my next question is to the people who've made it past production again! Did your production date differ from your pre-prod date or not, on the Online Status Tracker? Again, thanks in advance!

(Matt5cott - your specs are pretty much the same as mine, except I ordered black LED. For a full list, see my sig :) )

    Order Date: 06/08/2007
Estimated Delivery Date (on or before this date): 21/09/2007

Your order is in production as of 07/08/2007

Is that correct as it has only just gone into production today?
