It's bloody strange. I ordered mine way later than most people here, and have similar specs, but have the same if not a better EDD than many. One would expect Dell to have a first come, first serve approach, but they don't seem to have any particular logic to the way they order their production queue.

Of course this is my first EDD - it might be the first of many.

I got a revised EDD of 28/9 - which is a complete joke, nearly 3 months after my initial order on 6/7.

To my shock the CS rep tried to talk me into having an Latitiude D630 implying that this is a better machine!! I could hardly believe it! When he told me the video card was comparable I had to point out that the Quadro card was totally unsuitable for playing games! He also gave me an EDD for that machine as 23/8 - which I have no faith at all in.

I've now decided enough is enough and cancelled. I've decided to go for a slightly different type of laptop - the Asus VX2S (in black) - I know it's not as small but the weight is not critical for me. I am ordering today - for delivery tomorrow!!!

I feel I have been patient so far, and I know the 1330 is a new machine but the problem seems to be widespread with Dell i.e. see all the Vostro problems.

Good luck to the rest of you, but I don't think I'll be buying a Dell again.

Been watching this post for a while and thought I would add my 2 pence.

Ordered Laptop 11th July, original EDD 6th August, slipped to 15th August, was told it had been put on priority (ha ha), then got the dreaded EDD 27th September message.

My rep has told me it's delayed due to the battery. I have to be hopeful for an earlier date. I am leaving the country on Sept 15th so it MUST be here by then. They have another couple of weeks as I'm off on holiday, but if there isn't good news when I get back then I will have to cancel and get something else.

    XPS 1330 T7300 | 13.3" WXGATruelife | Fingerprint | Tuxedo Black 2 mp Camera | 2GB DDR2 | 160GB (5,400) HD | GeForce 8400M | 8 x DVD+/-RW | Primary 6 Cell Battery | Spare 9 Cell Battery | Wireless N | Bluetooth | Vista Home | Kensington Pilot Mouse | Base 1 yr Warranty

All for the tasty price of £880 inc VAT & DEL

Im sick of this. Ordered 26/6 (first day it was released in UK), EDD 16/7. Dell changed my order to the T7500, as T7700 was not being produced and thus order date became 17/7 with new EDD 17/08. Today my laptop went into production for 2 hours. Then got new EDD of 01/10. WTF!!!!!

This is a joke 3 months and still no sign of a laptop AND chances it could get changed again. Im cancelling and off to get the Sony SZ6 when it comes out in US.

Kaijin ordered an M1330 with a T7700 around the same time you did. He hasnt said anything, that Ive seen, about them changing it to a T7500. I think he is still expecting the T7700.

this thread was almost dead a couple of days ago. now i come back and i see lots of new people. i guess a lot of people have their EDD pushed back.
Dell is doing the same thing again.
everyone who ordered around end of june had a EDD of 20th july. around 18th (two days before delivery) everyone got an email and EDD was pushed back to 17th August. today is 15th and Dell has pushed EDD back to 01/10. i really dont know how can they mess it up so badly.

so how many peope here have received thier laptops??
I know KBC has for sure and including myself its 2 so far. can everybody who have received thiers please post here?

please check my review http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?p=2315750#post2315750 for first impressions.

And the only other to have theirs shipped is Pieman314

    June 28 givemestella (M1330, T7300) (UK)
July 02 Lobber (Red M1330, LED) (UK)
    July 03 Matt5cott (M1330) (UK)
    July 03 Kernal (Red M1330, LED, T7500, 8400M-GS) (UK) (Received 8/10)
    July 04 StaffsMike (Black M1330, LED, T7100, 8400M-GS) (UK)
    July 05 Gratedraindrop (Black M1330, LED, T7100, 8400M-GS) (UK)
    July 11 Tinny (Black M1330, T7300, 8400M-GS, Webcam) (UK)
    July 14 Pieman314 (Black M1330, LCD, T7100, 8400M-GS) (UK) (Shipped 8/11)

...But there could be several in the list that I just havent identified as UK orders.

This is all ball locks. Dell really has failed miserably with the launch of this. I've pretty much stopped my whining because I've got mine along with Kernal. And the worst case is that I ordered mine later than a few of you guys and yet I received mine first. So the method Dell is using to ship their M1330 has gone way over my head...

As stated, my spec is in my sig - you can also see my order dates and when I received it... and that is what I believe I have but with a bonus "finger print reader". I can confirm that you do get a sleeve with the M1330 but not headphones?

So for those who got an EDD extension to October - well that's just pathetic, I would've lost it if I didn't get mine till the end of August.

I don't know how Dell are publishing the EDDs. They say CCFL get their's quicker - but there's still no real evidence of that... is it the battery/colour/processor? Well I ordered a T7300 - and I've noticed many have ordered the T7500 - is this why there's a longer delay?

Perhaps the delay is due to a shortage of the free headphones. ;)

Is the "Recycle Kit/Plant a Tree" option available in the UK? As I pointed out before, Dell has a 6 month lead-time for acorns right now.

Doubt it, as well as why it takes 3 months to build a laptop, they will have to defend the below issues such as (off the top of my head)

Lying about delivery dates then switching them at the last minute.

Why they have taken money in July for a laptop that’s due end of Sept/Oct.

Lying about laptops going into production when they haven't.

Why the information given to the consumer has been terrible at best.

Why inconsistencies exist regarding compensation (one person gets nothing, another £100s off)

Why they cannot refund the customer the difference between the then ordered, and now cheaper laptop price on the website.

Generic 'that is just how the system works' and 'you will have to cancel your order to make changes' or 'we cannot give compensation until after the order has been completed' answers that we get won't wash. staffsMike, if you are happy to be bent over a barrel without saying anything that's entirely up to you ;) :)

edit->feel free to correct/point out things I have missed on the above.

    You're right of course..

BUT.. if they had the parts they would be built and shipped..they aren't doing it for a laugh are they.
Yes they have handled the situation stupidly and CS has been very flakey.

The difference between the prices now and when you ordered is your problem..you are, in their eyes, at the front of this very long queue with what you ordered in the first place. If you want to cancel and reorder..do it..

If you can offer me a like for like alternative to the m1330 im all ears (eyes.. lol) but we both know you can't.

Well I knew this was coming seeing as the status had not changed at all and my ESD of 20th Aug was rapidly approaching. My ESD has now changed again to 2nd October on the Status Page. This is just ridiculous, and they didn't even have the decency to contact me to tell me. They expect me to wait 3 months for a laptop from order? I've been patient to this point, i've not whined, I've not complained, I've not demanded compensation but now I am very frustrated and angry to be honest. The temptation to call them and cancel is very great at the moment.

Agreed on all points!! I got bored moaning ages ago, cant believe people have nothing better to do after all this time other than whine about the delays to be honest. If people don't realise by now that speaking with/complaining to Dell will make ZERO difference to when you receive your laptop then maybe time will pass much quicker. You will get it as soon as Dell can make it, if that ain't good enough then go elsewhere and find a laptop with the same/similar specs for the same price............oh hold on, you cant, so what are you missing out on by waiting? :D

Assuming that watchdog actually pick up on the problem..which i'm sure would take longer than your EDD anyway.. that won't get the screens or any other missing parts to dell quicker.

I don't really see what you're going to a achieve to be honest.. The laptop won't get to you quicker..so are you after compensation or just a little vengance for your long wait and being messed around?

Probably lol, but then with people already complaining of faults on these laptops, it could well even progress beyond this fiasco into product problems.

This is true, it won't speed up anyones laptop deliveries, nothing is going to change that :)

Im after answers to the above questions I posted, I don't think any of those questions are unreasonable, but you just try asking Dell any of them

What I would like is Dells abismal customer services in this instance to be recognised by a wider audience.

If people chose to just grin and bear it, fair enough, thats their choice, this is mine.

Very little can beat old fashion honesty IMO, being lied to over and over again really does dull a companies reputation.

It is irritating to wait so long for a laptop, but not as irritating as being 'baited' to keep your order, I have had 4 phone calls to tell me my laptop is in production, and will be with me next week, always one week before the EDD, and of course the EDD is then pushed back. I never call Dell, I cannot stand talking to them, hardly surprising as when they call me they just spout a load of BS.

Exactly, Watchdog wouldn't give a monkeys about this, lmao.

Are Dell refusing to cancel orders? NO
Are Dell refusing to give refunds? NO
Does this sort of thing happen all the time on certain product launches? YES

    Non-story.

So as long as your three above points are satisfied, a company can just do whatever the hell they want, marvelous .

I am glad you find it funny though, I find it funny that you think this is all 'normal' and acceptable, horses for courses I guess :)

For a non-story it's been getting a hell of a lot of coverage.

It's simply not on par with normal product launches and I don't agree that it happens all the time (I can't think of any analogous case in recent years).

Dell messed up and, in my opinion, they messed up quite spectacularly. Perhaps it's not Watchdog stuff, but it should certainly be considered very far below what we should expect when a company launches a product.

They probably should have taken pre orders much earlier than the release that way they could gauge the problem from the start.

Just hope they learn from their mistakes.

Watchdog have done similar stories before so to say that they would not be interested in this type of story is not true.
They have covered stories of people waiting for things to turn up like sofas and washing machines they cover a variety of consumer related problems.

I would expect a big computer company like Dell to have good information systems in place which are tracking the incoming parts and relating them to manufacturing requirements.

The M1330 fiasco has spectacularly demonstrated that either Dell doesn't have such a system or it simply isn't working. Or maybe it is working but it isn't linked to the order status system!

I don't want to sound like I'm on Dells side because I'm not really and I think they could have handled the launch of the M1330 so much better, but it seems as though it's something that could be effecting every manufacturer if not already, then soon.

    http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2007/08/16/laptop_prices_to_jump/

Maybe it's not all Dells fault. As much as it frustrates me with all the waiting, missed EDD's, lack of information and general disappointments, I'm personally not sure that there's anything else to do but wait it out if I want a decent laptop this year. :(

Impossible to say at this stage to be honest. A lot can happen between now and then. Once production goes into full swing we could m1330's flying out left right and centre.

A lot of people have gone for the 2.0Ghz as a compromise. I wen't with the 2.2ghz becuase I had the money and wanted the best perfomance I could get..but the 2.0ghz is still a good chip.

Nah, the 2.0 Ghz will decode 1080p videos without problems and a faster processor sucks up a little more battery life. I think the T7300 is a good compromise between power and stamina.

Ok so I check the status (online) today and it is now in 'Production' apparently. Though the date it went into production is Sat August 11th, even though everyday this week that I have checked it has been in 'Pre Production'!

I almost got happy for a split second, but that fills me with no confidence again!

That happened to me during the week 3 days before EDD, then a few hours later I got smacked down, with a new EDD of 01/10. Been on the phone to Numerous Dell support, customer care. Frustrating as a.) its so bad, b.) their hands are tied and c.) I get lied to which really infuriates me. As I have paid my cash, I was thinking of waiting for my laptop and going for the record of the longest wait. 27/6 to 01/10 makes it 90+ days!!! But really tempted by Sony Vaio SZ6. Gets released this weekend in US!!! Will need to wait for reviews to see how it performs

When is the SZ6 coming to the uk though?

If it were as cheap as the m1330 id get one but it won't even be close.

Good question! Honestly I dont know I have searched forums and called Sony but no luck. The SZ4 series came out in the UK a few weeks after the US, so I suspect it will be the same time frame. Sept/October/Nov would be the best guess. For a similarly spec'd Sony Vaio, you are going to pay top dollar. £1600-£1800 I reckon when it first comes out. Bang for buck the M1330 is still a better deal (if you could get one).

yeah i don't have that kind of money to burn on it..plus i'd want the 3 years onsite warranty so another £200 - £250 no doubt.

I had simular to this, it said it went into production, but the date was wrong. The date it said was actually the date it got pushed back. But in my case, it really was in production despite the incorrect date and I got it the next week.

I ordered a Sony SZ5 once it was the base model but i cancelled my order as i decided to buy a notebook from America and then i changed my mind again and ordered the XPS.
With Sony there prices pretty much are set. I was able though to get the warranty offered to me for free.

I spoke to my rep today and i was told that i am still on schedule for the 29th of August. Somebody rang and told me that my ETA was in October but the online tracker did not reflect this and neither did the order status phone line. My rep told me that they were going to put me back until October but then decided not to. Well seeing is believing as they say i don't quite believe anything much of what i am told until my item ships.
