They cater to us Americans, so it'll be released when it's the 26th here.

hehe, I was wondering about that. Thinking maybe I could sneak by most other americans and order early because they would release on the 26th just not our 26th...lol.

Nope, All Black from the pics that I can see.

The Ram is dimm 1 under keyboard, dimm 2 accessed on bottom of system. about the video cards - You would think so but the specs, ones I have played with, and the pictures only show a vga port... I think this is going to be the biggest complaint about them.

I agree...the lack of a DVI or HDMI is criminal neglect on Dell's part. With the advent of so many digital tv's and monitors, (even they sell tons of them! Don't the departments talk to each other?) and the ease of attaching your laptop to them (specially if its a nVidia GPU, their software makes it real easy to deal with the very common overscan issue) to view pictures, video, play games.....

Wake Up DELL!! Even the equiv HP has it...and its been out longer.

It is _impossible_ that 1720 wouldn't have either HDMI or DVI.

Obviously I don't know anything about the 1520s, but on my i9300, i was bored one day and took out the keyboard to see what it was like. Really not that difficult, only a few screws after you remove the panel towards the top (which just plies off)

are they obvious and easy to get too? I am worried about scratching the paint on the screws as well. I don't want a brand new lappy with nasty looking screws but I also can't see paying Dell $200 for 2 gigs of ram, when I can order the minimum through them and buy 2 gigs on newegg for $80, then sell the new ones and get some of my money back.

on my i9300 they were very easy to get to. I believe theres a post around this forum by sirius_gto illustrating how to remove the keyboard and install memory on a d630; the steps on how to remove the keyboard were virtually identical to those for my i9300, so i have a feeling the steps to removing the keyboard on these new inspirons will be similar as well.

For my brother, it's between the Inspiron 1520 and XPS M1330. It all depends on pricing to be honest, but the M1330 card is horrendous....

It is the same difficulty as the 1505... not very hard. I have taken off the power button bezel with a fingernail before without scratching it. I don't know why they do that though... I like having the ram all in one spot.

Might I keep reminding people that I work for Dell and have seen/played with these systems. There was no hdmi/dvi port on the ones I had and there is not one listed in the specs or shown in the pictures. I really think it is stupid too!!

Doubly sad if they are going backwards...my I9300 has DVI out. Been planning to get a DVI - HDMI cable from Monoprice.com so I can connect it to my 61" JVC 1080P LCoS TV and play games etc in 1080P brilliance!

yojr, i dont know if you've mentioned it or not, but have you been playing with only a certain configuration for each model or all of them? The reason I ask is because hp only offered hdmi with a dedicated graphics card.

Although, since you keep saying that its not even listed in the specs or shown in any pictures (whereas for the hps they did appear in manuals before the dedicateds came out), im guessing that there really is no dvi/hdmi.

I played with the 1720 and 1520. these were told to us to be full production ones. They were fully loaded (they tend to give our lab the best of the best so we can play around with them to see how to break/fix them). I did think it was odd that it did not have an hdmi port but the tech sheet I have doesn't even mention HDMI or DVI outputs. I really hope they are wrong...

So are we guessing the Web site won't be updated till 10 AM Eastern? I'd been hoping for midnight or 12:15...that way I could stay up and check rather than check tomorrow.

that's so stupid, they're pulling an apple.

and someone asked why they put ram under keyboard, well it's basically forcing you to buy more ram from them isn't it? THey say that you can't even upgrade that SoDimm, although I don't know it to be true since I have seen it by taking apart my HP. The tech support told me it was soldered on... so i didn't mess with it.

Dell isnt forcing you to buy there memory. The memory under the keyboard is suprisingly easy to replace. There is a forum with picture by picture instruction on the process.

GREAT! I just wanted to make sure, because that makes a pretty significant difference in price of these systems. $200 vs $80, well at least that is significant to me anyway. Plus as my understand of these systems supporting 4 gigs that makes a difference to me there too, because later on down the road I would like to switch to 4 gigs. Maybe about a year or so if ram prices keep coming down... :D

From the Canadian site they don't really look half bad! It says that they have a magnesium alloy frame, so i wonder if this will change people's opinions of the Inspiron's overall build quality.
