Does that mean the price will be cheaper by $100 for freeDOS and Linux ?
Right now I still doubt whether the release date is next week 26th.
-
doubtful, while with the linux software is free itself, when you buy it, you are actually paying for the tech support behind it.
-
Checking Dell's website, it looks like it is currently a $100 difference between Linux/DOS and Windows (comparing the e1505). But that does assume you don't get any support on the Linux/DOS (that costs more).
As to the e1505, it no longer is accessible on the U.S. site with Windows Vista, but still can be bought with Windows XP or Linux. -
well I just checked the site, and the 1505 is no where to be found, the 1501 is still there, but no 1505
Oh wait, I take that back, if you click the still looking for windows XP link, you can find the 1505. -

E1405 is missing as well.
-
^e1405's been missing for a few weeks IIRC.
Interesting thread comparing graphics card: here
Interesting that all the DX 10 cards listed are 128 bit or less, even ATI's.
GeForce 8600M GT does better than GeForce Go 7900 GS in 3DMark05 but worse in 3DMark03 and 3DMark06.
Found the link off Les Delliens...glad I can read a bit of French. -
so assuming that xp will not be available on these new dells
Is it relatively easy to install xp instead at a later date?because i really do not like vista one bit -
Im kinda new to dell, If I wanted to buy the 1520 can I order it without a OS? I already own a copy of Vista for my current laptop which will be getting the Linux treatment and turned into a server.
-
From what I have read, no you can't. You can see about opting for one of the other os's, and it seems from what has been stated here that you can get some money off for ordering a lappy with linux installed.... This is not a fact, just a educated guess based on reading this thread and a couple others.

3 more days, 3 more days, 3 more days, gotta keep telling myself that. I am really excited about the new laptops. I'm sorry, call me a kid if ya want to, but I want to see what they are actually releasing, and what the prices are gonna be.
-
Same here man
I realli hope there won't be any problems with the release, can't wait!
-
-
so is all FreeDos is, is a dos partition? How do they handle larger drives with that? Or is free dos a newer version that understands how to handle the larger drives?
-
-
Will you get a cut in price for going without an OS? (one would think so at least)
-
-
I think the post is finally dieing down....
Well, only a couple days left til the release... Hold out everyone... it might be worth it
-
Hi,
I´m from Germany. Is there anybody who knows something about a release date for the 1520 in Germany?

I am also excited about the new Dell Notebooks, especially about the "Vostro" ones, because i've heard they have a metal chassis. Is that true? If yes, i'd definitely go with Dell... -
Thanks for your quick answer.

Anyone know what is the #7 on the 1720 picture: http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.engadget.com/media/2007/06/rightqc7.jpg
could this be Displayport/HDMI, or something giving us an alternative to DVI? -
also#8 ??????????
-
7 looks like a card reader whilst 8 is a 1394 port.....stupid dell....i want a dvi at least....
-
I think someone mentioned this somewhere, but for the 1520 and 1720 is it gonna be a 8600 gS or gT? If so, what's the difference between the cards lol ^^'
-
The E1705 had DVI, I don't know why this doesn't. Maybe they have replaced it with HDMI? -
8 looks like firewire.

Any other questions on the pics just let me know...
As far as the release dates, they are world wide...
-
Respectively? Or will both options be available to each?
-
I just was reading something on the tech sheets I have...
This is from the desciption of the back side if you look at the pics...
1. S-video TV-out connector — Connects the computer to a TV. Also connects digital audio-capable devices using the TV/digital audio adapter cable.
Don't understand the description... This would suggest it is HDMI but it is s-video? just wondering about people's thoughts on that. -
-
Would if be possible to buy a high speed SD card and put it in the card reader and leave it, and use it as a readyboost drive?
-
-
I've taken a look into the Dell online website here in germany and I've noticed that the shipping costs for the Inspiron Notebooks are dropped for only two days and the 40 rebate also lasts for only two days. So...it's two days until 26th and that would explain that the new Dell Notebooks are on the way...but this is just an assumption...
-
are there any pictures of vostro? I'm afraid that the new keyboard on 1720 will decay and i'm interested in something black...
and finally is there DVI or HDMI port? -
-
it would be the first 14" lappie with 8600GT card after the Zepto's 6224W, and 1420 will then be my definite buy for this summer ! -
-
-
Do you think the new Vostro would be worth the wait past the Inspirions as far as in terms of a better build quality? I'll be having it on the move fairly often so i don't want something made of cheaper plastic if the Vostro will be equal as far as specs go but made more rugged.
-
Is there any colour other than 'black' on the Vostro's? (Dell Logo, Bezel, Keyboard, Chasis etc.) Looking for something all black but not a thinkpad.
-
yojr... where are the RAM slots located for the 1720... is it like the latitude where one is below the keyboard or are they both behind.. and about HDMI i thought that the new gpus have hdmi??? explain please
-
Can someone tell me what the Vostro line is all about? Is it a replacement for the XPS or Latitudes?
-
I know, this thread is getting a little crazy! -
Just a day left people... just a day..
-
-
Man, I hope they make it out by tommorow, or I might be forced to.........complain about it and wait longer
haha
-
-
Did I read the release date wrongly or what? It's past midnight 26/6 here and there's no change in the Dell website
Upcoming; Inspiron 1520 and 1720
