not sure on that one. That is a questions for Dell's Customer Care. I would most likely say no but you might be able to get something if you push hard enough (just don't be an @$$ about it... pet peeve of mine is customers that push to hard for something that can't be done. But it never hurts to at least ask maybe ask a sup once but if they say no, then it is most likely a no)

Liquidx:
I had a 1505 with a $500 coupon ordered and I tried with three people in 2 departments to get a 1520 with coupon and could not. I was very persistent, but nice, since I felt that I should be able to keep the coupon and switch machine. They finally said the coupon really only applied to the older models. -
I am disappointed with the dells. I just ordered a Sager np2090.
-
-
-
I'm really disappointed with all the other laptops. I'm getting a 1330 or 1520 this summer
-
-
From what the 1330 review said and shown, and assuming it's the case with the 1520 and 1720, definitely. Check it out here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=134426

the nine cell battery doesn't stick out in inspiron 9400??
-
I am glad to hear about the 9 cell not sticking out to far, I need the 9-cell. -
you know i'm really tired of people posting how they want to buy a sager, if you do then go, why say something stupid on this topic about how sager is so much better, it is posts like that that makes me feel like there are hella sager lurkers around here who just throw out the name at any given moment as cheap advertisement.
-
what is a sager???!!!!
-
a brand of laptop
-
on the canadian site i'm only seeing the 7100 available, nothing higher. am i the only one? i think i'm gonna get the 71 anyways, but just wondering if the others were available.
-
I just contacted a Dell employee, and was told that the new series won't be released here in Norway with the end of this week.
So I guess it will be released globally this week.
Uhm, nevermind, it's already availabe for us now
So I guess it won't be too long to wait, where ever you are. -
In this review, the reviewer says that the Inspiron 1420 has a magnesium alloy chassis:
http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1895,2150869,00.asp
The funny thing is, I can't find any confirmation of this at Dell's site... I would think they would tout it.
Anyone know if it's really true? -
It is true actually, if you click on the animation and click under like design or something, acutally let me check for sure. it's under express yourself -> premium finish where it talks about it being magnesium alloy. my favorite part is the fact that it's not the dull gray that I am use to with dell's, it' smore metallic
-
For those who said the 1520 is overpriced. Checkout this link for the education discount http://premier.dell.com/portal/standardconfig.aspx?c=US&l=en&s=eep&cs=RC809275
Dell has agreement with some schools for discounts on their computers. From the link provided above, i got $683 off. After customizing the CPU and GFX card to the max( T7500, 8600M GT 256MB), the price is only $1500
P.S. The new dells just came out today. Therefore, you should not expect to get a huge discount like the E1505 and E1705. It takes time to bring the price that low. -
-
If YoJr still checks this topic, can you comment on what brand the Harddrive for the 160GB is?
-
They will very likely use a bunch of different hard drive vendors, even for the same capacity, so it might be different in different units.
-
As I said in the other topic where you posed the same question:
It's not that they won't tell you, it's that they have 3 or 4 different kinds they pick from...and they cannot guarantee you getting one over the other. You just get what you get... -
so in a sense, do you think it's worth it. it could be a nonamer brand huh
-
It doesn't matter, Dell has to stand behind it just as much no matter what it is...
-
-
definite yes on the 1520 having a magnesium casing, dunno about the 1720
-
-
That also must have something to do with the whole premier thing, because my educational discount is no where near that.
-
By the way, another thing to consider when doing price comparisons are taxes. Make sure you include that in your price comparisons between different vendors. If you buy from a reseller located in a different state than where you live, chances are you won't pay taxes. That can translate to a nice little rebate.

i think it'd be like $40 or $50 more for the wireless-n card? the w-n card will come at about 20% off because of the above discounts of 10 and 12%
BTW, the above includes the 3 yr premium warranty. -
oh ok, that was about what i could configure. Still way too costly for me though.
-
i had a budget of about $2000 +/- $500 so it works for me =).

I don't like the off-center keyboard positioning. It's cute to have extra keys along the right, and it's cute to have a keypad along the right of the 17" version and all, but it means that when you type, you have to position your hands off-center to the left.
This means that when you have the laptop on your lap, either your hands are in a weird twisted position, or the laptop needs to slide towards the right. This means the laptop 'd be sticking out on your right. No good on the train or plain.
There's also a risk of the laptop falling off your lap because the left side of the laptop is sitting on the very right edge of your left leg.
I know crappy competitor laptops like the HP have this keypad too, and a lot of ignorant lamers might at first impulse cry that you all also want a keypad, but it's obvious that all you crybabies can't type with 10 fingers.
Thanks for screwing up the 17" dells, my fellow consumers. Thanks a lot indeed. -
Thanks for adding a NumPad to the 17-inch models! That's one of the few complaints I had with the e1705.
(yes, I actually find it useful)
Can't please everyone all the time.
If you want a 17-inch Dell without the NumPad, check out the Dell Outlet. They have some pretty good deals on refurbished notebooks, and there's usually 30-50 e1705's at a time to choose from. -
actually you can get the above for $1609 tax + shipping included!
but you'll also need a $200 one-time use coupon (so coupons will save you $942) from a university you are attending and you need to sign up now w/their delluniversity website. if you have an account you previously created (like i had) you might not have gotten the coupon. i just registered another email and now i have received it. sry can't help people with getting that coupon but good luck, happy buying! -
Pragun, where did u get the $200 off coupon? I am going to college this fall and my school has agreement with dell. But i dont seem to find anything about the $200 coupon tho.
-
I'd like to ask , is there a remote control for Dell 1520 ? the video review about 1330 at youtube does have a remote control provided.
-
anyway im off to bed for the night, cya! -
-
Thanks for the heads-up on the $200 coupon from Dell University. I signed up a couple days ago so I had to make a new edu email. This gets me a pretty good discount, but I still might wait until July 4 to see what sales are like. Still, not too shabby.
